It amazes me how mental illnesses such as depression are treated with so much less respect than physical ailments.

I think i’m afraid to be happy because whenever I get to happy, something bad always happens. I wish I could go back to a time when i could smile and it didn’t take everything in me to do it. You go home, you look in the mirror, you cry, you think you are ugly, you think you are fat, you want to die and the worst thing is, the next day it happens all over again until the day you give up. I don’t think anyone could ever criticize me more severly than the way I viciously criticize myself. Maybe this year Ill get myself off of the floor and try to pretend that things are getting better, That I’m changing but I still feel the same.
That moment when you can actually feel the pain in your chest from seeing or hearing something that breaks your heart.
It feels like everyone else is moving on with their lives while I am stuck here in this hole that I can’t climb out of. As youngsters started taking more responsibilities in the families, they are prone to depression nowadays.

When I think back to the beginning of my fitness journey, my experience with depression (and my ongoing fitness journey!) is the reason this blog exists. It was ongoing for well over a decade and was crippling at its roughest times, which would come and go over and over again.
Pinterest didn’t exist during that time but I do remember searching for quotes online or reading them in memoirs from authors who wrote about their own life experiences. While medication and therapy can help, personal initiative is the greatest determinant in your recovery. Depression is a common mental disorder whose symptoms are depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth , disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy and poor concentration. It seems like depression is a problem that lots of people don’t understand very well.
If you’ve never struggled with depression, I want to stress that seeking help can be MUCH harder than you think it is. They told me their nearest facility was further away than I could afford to drive on my gas budget. Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness and loneliness ther’re going through. I have more experience with depression than I'd like to admit but I find freedom in fitness, writing and being crafty. These problems can become chronic or recurrent and lead to substantial impairment in an individual's ability to take care of his or her everyday responsibilities. I have never had a broken limb, but I accept that it exists, that it hurts, that it is real and that it would be an obstacle in my life. Recovering from depression requires action; mere thinking about how to take those actions isn’t enough. Nothing wrong in talking to someone instead of crying alone that increases your depression. I just want people to understand that everybody struggling with depression has stories like this.
There are people who just slowly back out of your life because talking to you makes them sad or uncomfortable. Triggers can destabilize someone who was functional, but they can delay thinking they can get it under control again.
