Great tips, I am definitely at the point of de-clutter, kids have out grown their toys and clothes, old computer parts that just garbage, plus all the other crap that just sits and collects dust. I will make one and only one exception up front though – pictures (photo albums, etc). I’m a big fan of garage sales, and giving things away to charities and second hand stores.
However for those that have been in the same house for a long time, I would suggest the same thing. I frequently get hung up on keeping stuff because I know I can sell it on Ebay, craigslist, or at a garage sale, but then never getting around to selling it. I think our generation has a much easier time letting go of stuff than previous generations. Recently started getting pretty serious about the clutter in my house, I hate it, but my husband is a hoarder. I like to recommend that you go into a room and evaluate what you haven’t used in several months to a year. Below is a list of tasks that can help you get rid of clutter 15 minutes of time, or items to consider decluttering. Both the 52 Week Organized Home Challenge and the Declutter 365 Missions are designed to work, in conjunction, to help you slowly but steadily rid yourself of excess junk.
Below are some of the general suggestions for decluttering missions and items to not forget to visit in your quest to lighten the load in your home, that didn't really fit into another category. Whether you've done these missions when I've scheduled them during the year, or any other time doesn't really matter to me. Set up a donate (and perhaps a sell) box or bags to serve as a collection station, and then donate or sell regularly to get that stuff out of the house!

Once a day do a run through of the office and grab up anything that doesn’t belong in that room. However, one thing that has helped me reduce my cleaning time greatly is having a non-cluttered home.
I find that trying to figure out what gets to stay and what is going out, is the most time consuming process of de-cluttering. She is a God loving, happy wife, mom of 3, that loves indulging in a delicious cup of coffee paired with a great book.

I know well enough not to throw away important things, but I can also recognize things that aren’t necessary to keep around. I specifically chose the year period because it allows you to get through all 4 seasons, if you life in such a climate. Pictures are highly encouraged, but you can also just write a description of what you decluttered too (note you've got to at least explain what we're seeing in the picture you upload).
If we don’t make time to take care of ourselves, to re-energize and re-vitalize ourselves we make it impossible to do, give or achieve our best.
At first I had a small recycling container and realized that though it is cute and could be hidden, it was not doing me much good.
I try to make sure it goes directly into the recycling bin by opening my mail right near the bin. It may not seem like a lot of time, but you’ll be surprised how much progress you can make. Again, I recommend that you start with the area that needs the least attention and build from there.

Now that I have a place for all my papers, it keeps keeping up with the paper trail easier. Don't let that happen to you - recognize that everything can be broken down into smaller steps.
I know that when my closet starts to get cluttered and messy it bothers me to even look in there.
For example, instead of "decluttering your living room", make sections that can be done one at a time; the TV and TV stand area, the bookshelf, the cabinet, etc. Keeping it de-cluttered not only makes me feel better, but also saves me a lot of time when I’m searching for something. Staying on top of it will make the de-cluttering process easier and help keep your home clutter free. Whether is more space to make room for your baby or simply to have a de-cluttered home, make sure you don’t forget your ultimate goal. I call it the snowball effect; you start with small progress and continue to build on that.
I try and deal with the problem by no longer buying new things such as books or magazines (much).
If I want to read something new or different I try to get it at the library or read it on line.
