To file -there should be nothing in here when you put it back on your desk. This is the easiest file to let get out of control -spend a few minutes at the end of each week filing away what has accumulated in here during the week.
All other paper that was on my desk is now filed away in my file drawer (I’ll share what files are in there later) or in my Smart Binder (more on that next week). Sort out all the loose papers, notes, magazines, and any other items that need to be addressed.
There’s nothing more annoying than an automatic update request filling your screen when you’re in the middle of a deadline. We all know we should do this regularly, and it’s only when a crisis happens that we wish we had followed the sensible advice.

De-clutter your desk, and life, from distractions by using these simple tips to organize your workspace and increase your productivity. File away what you need, recycle what you don’t, and save what you think you may need for the future. Set aside some time to update your computer’s virus protection, while also installing any new software that you may need.
Save your important and sensitive documents to external storage, as well as any picture and media files that you couldn’t bear to loose. Invest in some proper filing for your desk such as a box, magazine files, or a simple tray to keep your papers in line. I have a purple file for documents I need each week, a green file for my writing, and a yellow file for important details, such as log-in information.

I especially agree with the section on social media; I've been using StayFocused to limit the amount of time I spend on specific sites. I always have such a tough time studying at my desk and always head to the library so I think these tips will come in handy when I head back to school. I like to take "before" pictures of messes, because it's very gratifying to pair them with beautiful "after" pictures once I've cleaned everything up.
I always let whatever place I'm working get so cluttered and it constantly leads to distraction. I love working with women and helping to inspire them to achieve their goals and dreams while still maintaining motherhood and family as their number one priority. If you’re like me, you may have endless magazine tear-outs that you have saved for inspiration.
Keep on top of your digital filing, and clear out any cookies or temporary internet files that may be slowing down your computer’s productivity. Consider downloading apps like AntiSocial, which blocks specified amounts of time to social networking sites, and Focus, which helps to isolate certain windows on your computer.
One of the other key points to a productive work space is lighting, especially when working on a computer. The less cluttered your spaces are, the less cluttered your mind will be and your productivity will go through the roof! Since you are a post it kinda person, purchase a nice post it holder in black that neatly holds them, while still allowing you to have one at the ready at all times! I blog about everything I enjoy – creating treats and meals in my kitchen, spending time in my garden, entertaining and party planning, reading, self improvement and tips and ideas on style and fashion. Start that file or scrapbook you’ve been meaning to begin—it’ll clear your desk, and your mind, of distractions. Actually, everything likes to hide in my desk, including those not-so-cute little dust bunnies! This will include going through every post it note and piece of paper that you already have. Take the time to go through each and ever piece of paperwork, take care of it, and file it accordingly (we will go over paperwork again in a few minutes).Make sure when you are cleaning and purging, that you take the time to go through your office supplies and weed it out. If you are an office supply lover like me, you probably have five different styles of highlighters and around twenty notebooks piling up on your desk. In all reality we really don’t need that many so pick your favorites and donate the rest to your local school or daycare. Even though we think having a variety is fun, it just leads to a pile up of supplies which eventually become a disorganized mess.If it helps, all of your new office supplies, you can keep in a drawer in the garage or somewhere else.

One drawer in the crate has all my new office supplies, so they are not entangled with my used supplies, and everything is organized nice and neat.
This way, I always have what I need right at my fingertips…and nothing more!Control the Paper ClutterThis actually was made into a whole post in itself but while we are trying to have a more organized desk, I will try to keep it short and brief, so that we can get your mess cleaned up. It is important to go through each and every piece of paper that you have lying around and get it taken care of. This may include buying new files, a docking station, and anything that will help you keep things picked up and from becoming cluttered. Just be careful not to buy too many things for the top of the desk as this could lead to another mess. You are better off keeping everything stored in specific spots inside your drawers and cabinets. The particular desk I have has lots of storage. I also have a letter file in there to sort papers and have everything exactly where I need it. If your desk looks anything like mine used to, you probably have post-its stuck to each and every nook and cranny that you have available.
The wall, the computer screen and every other available space has a post it stuck somewhere on it? Your computer, a calculator, pencil organizer and an inbox should really be enough on top of your desk, try to organize the rest inside of your drawers. Since the drawers in my desk are fairly deep, I purchased an adjustable great quality silverware drawer tray that won’t slide my stuff around. It fits in there perfectly, so all my pencils, highlighters, erasers, paper clips, and so on, are in that holder and I store other things I don’t use as often in the bottom of that drawer like a ruler, staples, post it notes, etc.
You may also wish to include a cork board to keep track of chores, meal list and shopping lists.
It is also very beneficial to have an inbox and outbox for every member of your household. What are your favorite tips on how to declutter? Are you a mom that wants to stay home with your kids?
