Escape the stress and busyness of city life to discover the peace of meditation for yourself. We currently offer meditation & buddhism drop-in classes in 12 locations throughout Sydney.
No meditation experience is necessary, the classes are suitable for beginners and experienced meditators, and everyone is welcome.
Mahasiddha Kadampa Meditation Centre was established in March 2001 and is now located in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills.
We hold weekly drop-in meditation classes and monthly day courses at the centre which are suitable for beginners, as well as in-depth study programs for people who want to deepen their understanding of Buddha’s teachings.
Mahasiddha Kadampa Meditation Centre is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU) a global network of over one thousand centres and groups around the world, and is a not-for-profit organisation. Kadampa Meditation Centre Australia (KMCA) is the mother centre of the New Kadampa Tradition - International Kadampa Buddhist Union in Australia.
KMCA contains a beautiful World Peace Temple, created through the pure vision of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition, and the joyful dedication of many volunteers. Kadampa Buddhism is a Mahayana Buddhist school founded by the great Indian Buddhist Master Atisha (AD 982-1054).

The great Kadampa Teachers are famous not only for being great scholars but also for being spiritual practitioners of immense purity and sincerity. The lineage of these teachings, both their oral transmission and blessings, was then passed from Teacher to disciple, spreading throughout much of Asia, and now to many countries throughout the western world.
The external forms of presenting Buddhism may change as it meets with different cultures and societies, but its essential authenticity is ensured through the continuation of an unbroken lineage of realized practitioners. Through the activities and dedication of the renowned Buddhist Master, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Kadampa Buddhism has spread to many countries in recent years.
Geshe Kelsang has worked tirelessly to spread Kadampa Buddhism throughout the world by giving extensive teachings, writing many books on Kadampa Buddhism, establishing the International Temples Project and founding the New Kadampa Tradition, the International Kadampa Buddhist Union. A Kadampa is someone who integrates their knowledge of all Buddha's teachings into their everyday lives. Be guided through simple meditations that relax the mind and body, leading to a deep experience of inner peace and contentment.
Everyone is welcome to attend these meditation classes and to visit our Centre in Surry Hills. Discover simple meditations that will help you keep a calm and flexible mind throughout the day.

This new Surry Hills Temple provides a comfortable and relaxed environment in which people can discover the benefits of meditation and modern Buddhism for themselves. Perched on a mountainside, located an hour outside of Melbourne in the lush forest of the Dandenong Ranges, it is the perfect place for enjoying inner peace. The Temple is host to a number of local, national and international events for Kadampa Buddhists, year after year. Kadampas, then, are practitioners who regard Buddha's teachings as personal instructions and put them into practice by following the instructions of Lamrim.
Classes begin with a simple guided breathing meditation followed by a teaching and a second guided meditation based on the topic.
