The Department of Treasury has put out an ad for survival kits for all of its employees who oversee the federal banking system. Contracts for survival kits are usually made for the military, or law enforcement such as the FBI. The emergency supplies would be for every employee at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which conducts on-site reviews of banks throughout the country. The government is willing to spend up to $200,000 on the kits, according to the solicitation released on Dec.
The survival kits must come in a fanny-pack or backpack that can fit all of the items, including a 33-piece personal first aid kit with “decongestant tablets,” a variety of bandages, and medicines. The kits must also include a “reusable solar blanket” 52 by 84 inches long, a 2,400-calorie food bar, “50 water purification tablets,” a “dust mask,” “one-size fits all poncho with hood,” a rechargeable lantern with built-in radio, and an “Air-Aid emergency mask” for protection against airborne viruses. The Emergency Preparedness & Response Specialist is a professional in the field of emergency preparedness.
Someone in the decision-making process has a close friend, relative or associate in the survival-kit (or components thereof) business. Thats right, its like the worthless gear we had in the Air Force that we were forced to use instead of good gear.
GearPods Wilderness is a unique, fully-integrated adventure system designed to accompany you deep into the wilderness. This integrated adventure system is compact, waterproof, durable and unmatched in pound-for-pound capabilities. Camping gear costs thousands of dollars for products, that if used enough, are going to fail when you least expect it.
I will base this off of a summer loadout that I built in 2009 after I lost my job in the economic collapse. Do build your own frame saw.   A nicely tempered 24 inch Bahco saw blade is much lighter in your survival pack and more efficient than an expensive folding saw that tends to bend and break.
Do Not buy heavy, expensive canteens.   I already touched base on this one, but a cheap billy pot and a Gatorade bottle are every bit as efficient as a heavy and costly metal bottle. Do Not buy expensive custom knives.   A laser sharp Mora in the right hands is pretty hard to beat for $10.

Savings: Savings here are not monetary but the quality of 550 over the quantity of bank line gives us a real peace of mind savings. Tent stakes you bought at a store and need replaced occasionally = $10 – $20 every few months. Hopefully you have found something useful here, so maybe if you’re just now planning a low-budget camping backpack, you can save some coin and headache. Built on the modular GearPods Connect™ system, GearPods Wilderness makes it possible to effortlessly carry the gear and tools you need to manage contingencies and stay prepared even during unplanned nights out. GearPods Health provides a compact yet comprehensive first aid kit for treating common outdoor ailments and injuries. Some folks use catfish line, but I’ve tried it and never have found the quantity to trump the quality of paracord.
Of course, they are not indestructible, and you’ll likely be replacing them if you are a hard-use type. And if you’re an experienced camper, I hope this has inspired you to reevaluate your current investment and needs. GearPods Survival Pro offers a range of survival tools to help you stay hydrated, build a fire and shelter, signal for help, repair gear, fish and navigate out of an unfamiliar situation.
That includes hail storms, damaging winds, a few feet worth of rain, and general drunken stubbornness. Besides, with the savings you’ll make from the other tips in this article, you can afford it.
Finally GearPods Shelter provides a complete emergency shelter system combining a lightweight silicon-coated ripstop nylon tarp rigging system with cord and line tensioners, and a thermal blanket. Fuzzy, a trail friend, had a poly tarp last six months and he was every bit as hard on his as I was on mine. Many stormy nights for him, as well.  I know because I rode out a night filled with rain wrapped twisters with him on more than one occasion, so I can vouch for his tarp.
Much too much hassle, your modular approach is the way forward.I’ve carried a UK military wound dressing since it was the only compulsory item to carry on the Outward Bound course I was on in 1980. I’ve added a small roll of duct tape, some zip-ties and a Thermarest repair kit to mine for running-repairs.

Only comment is that even with a fire steel fire making can be really difficult so, as always with any skill that you may actually be relying upon to save your bacon…. I have two fire steels, one that I use and practise with and one in the kit to be there in perfect condition should I ever need it.
Knowing that you can use everything (legal) effectively will add to your confidence and positive attitude which could be the difference between success and failure.Reply Paul KirtleyHi BernieAbsolutely. I remember you showing me a little ‘green box’ with a sealable lid in which you carried some sharpening stones ?? I try to spend as much time in the woods as humanly possible and you just never know what can happen.Reply PierreI have been struggling for a few days on the matter of matches. I understand the need for a backup to the firesteel for convenience lighting some kindling.
But if you already have a firesteel and a lighter, why bother with matches? Then it finally occured to me. Even if you keep it warm close to your body, once you get it out to use it you might only have a few seconds of pressure. That’s where, in my rationale, matches have a role to play.Do you see other distinctive advantages of matches?
I never tested greased cotton wool in very cold and wet environment.Reply Paul KirtleyHi PierreGood questions! I travel a lot for work and I am interested to know what you would leave or replace had you wanted to carry a kit on an aircraft, obviously a knife is out etc regards DanoReply Paul KirtleyHi Dano Thanks for the comment and positive feedback on my blog.
People underestimate the difference made to survival rates by taking full notice of this information.
The terrain and mode of travel or situation where such a kit might be of use is a pretty rare event.Any how nice work on the blog.
