Fruits and veggies may be soft cooked and mashed if needed.  Be sure to thoroughly cook all meats before shredding or cutting the meats up for finger food.
Skip the harsh chemicals and pesticides and whip up some of these DIY pest control solutions. The materials published on this website are of a general nature and have been provided for informational purposes only.
I’ve received a lot of flak because the grapes in this picture are not cut up, even though I clearly state in the article that cutting them up is a good idea.
I think it’s sad that it would be easier to change your picture including whole grapes because people are not responsible enough to read an article prior to passing judgement.
My 9 month old baby refuses to be spoon fed and only wants to eat on his own (which makes a huge mess for me!). Btw, I really like your site in general Your a great writer and have good insight into practical and loving parenting!
Coming up with new ideas for meals can be hard, and it is really easy to get stuck in a rut. To help give you some ideas of healthy meals for your little ones I took pictures of everything I made for Grace to eat this week with a couple of exceptions. Make a conscious effort to offer healthy meals - Nutrition is very important to me in my own life, and I try very hard to be conscious of what I put into my own body.
Find a great resource - I get ideas for meals from all over the web, but I love Little Grazers website.
Cut corners where you can - I make most of Grace's food from scratch, but I do rely on frozen vegetables quite a bit. Make meals ahead of time - I often throw lunch for the next day in the oven when I am done making dinner. When we first introduced Grace to solid food at the age of 5 months we did so following the baby led weaning method. We also offer Grace snacks though out the day when she signs for food or seems grumpy for no particular reason. Get the deal on this amazing processorThe all-in-one appliance that makes baby purees, smoothies, fresh juice, ice cream, milk shakes, soups, sauces, bread dough, dressings, salsas and more! Always consult your medical practitioner or a qualified health provider for any further advice in relation to the topics discussed.
I could not find a free picture for cut up grapes, so please use common sense for your kids.
I use blogging as my creative outlet, swimming as my physical outlet, and the rest of my life revolves around my husband and girls (18 months apart). We try to avoid processed foods for our 12-month-old and I’ve been feeling a real lack of finger food inspiration lately. I believe that good nutrition helps keep a person healthy, both physically and mentally, so naturally, it is important to me to cultivate Grace's palette towards healthy and nutritionally-rich foods.

I found it when we began baby led weaning with Grace and have been using their recipes ever since. It is much easier to throw some frozen vegetables in the microwave for 30 seconds instead of steaming a whole head of broccoli, especially when your child is screaming for food. When I make pancakes I always make a big batch and have Grace eat them throughout the week for quick breakfasts before classes.
The premiss behind baby led weaning is that children learn healthy eating habits by being in charge of their own food. Well, just in case your life sounds similar…here is a list of ideas I have brainstormed. When I was at the hospital about to give birth (close to 15 minutes before the actual birth in fact), my little sister called us crying. My little loves everything, and at home eats whatever I do, but I’m constantly looking for easy on-the-go snacks and there are a few on here I never thought of.
I try very hard to make Grace three real-food meals a day, but often come up short on ideas and time. Instead of spoon feeding a child purees, you give them large chunks of table foods that they can pick up, lick, and explore. However, she does get three 8 oz bottles of formula a day as well; one when she wakes up, one at nap time, and one a bedtime.
I add different vegetables to it (peas, carrots, tomatoes, etc) and my little boy loves it! In the past month I have started to collect different recipes in the hopes to vary her meals as much as possible. Even though there is no history of food allergies in our family I am terrified of Grace having a nut allergy. These statistics coupled with the fact that children learn their eating habits early in life are what keep me motivated to continue busting my butt in the kitchen everyday.
The more I read about the junk that’s in a lot of things these days, the more I want to turn to the companies that are doing things right! The elbows pasta is nice because it’s one less thing that I have to chop into tiny little bites! It is very important to me to expose her to as many different flavors and textures as I possibly can in the hopes of continuing her good eating habits. So please…make sure you know how to do the heimlich…you never know when you will have to do it (and make sure babysitters know it too)! At the rate I am going we will be standing in the ER parking lot when she tries her first bite of peanut butter, and I really, really do not want to be that mom. The hope is that they will become less picky eaters and learn to follow their own body's cues when they are full.
Remember that formula or breast milk is still the child's main source of nutrition until they are a year old.

We must introduce her to finger foods in all their variety before little miss toddler starts brainwashing her with her silly ideas. Because baby led weaning has a heavy emphasis on self-feeding the child gets to practice their hand eye coordination, chewing, and motor skills before their traditionally fed counterparts. Also, there are going to be things on here that you might never feed your children, this list is meant to be general and apply to households in the masses I try to avoid processed foods, but occasionally they have been real lifesavers. If they are coughing or choking on a food frequently, stop giving it to them and re-introduce at a later date.Cut food into small pieces so they can chew it easily. Thanks so much.-Amanda Reply Alisha on June 13, 2012 at 12:35 pm I am so glad you found it too! I have an extremely picky three year old who seriously could care less about food and I get very frustrated trying to come up with ways for him to eat new food.
I have an almost 11 mo old who is actually a great eater and interested in anything I’m eating, so I hope it stays that way, but I’m always looking for new ideas! She’s a great eater and will eat just about anything you put in front of her (and has the teeth to do it, too), but I struggle with knowing what to make for her. Typically, she eats what we eat for dinner, and does well with it, but she gets hungry 10 minutes after the meal is over which makes me think she’s not getting enough. I try to curb it by giving her water to drink during the day, but I’m not perfect at it. Reply Antigen on August 1, 2012 at 5:36 pm This is a very helpful list for my almmost-2 yr old who is getting pickier about her foods day by day. Me and husband and our caregiver are very patient with her, she has no trouble around us.Is there a good way to handle this, does she need an evaluation?
Reply Alisha on August 2, 2012 at 2:00 am It is difficult for me to say if she needs an eval, but I have two pieces of advice. Reply Leslie Wacker on August 7, 2012 at 10:23 am My sister sent this my way, and I’m so glad she did!! My son is only 7 months, so we’re very early in this process, but I remember the challenge we faced with my daughter around this age! Issac is a great name, isn’t it!) Reply Kristin on August 15, 2012 at 9:33 pm I have a 10 month old (just turned yesterday) and this is so great!
