Configuring an item so that file deletions are propagated

When DropSync performs a sync it updates the files at the destination if they have changed at the source. If a file has been deleted at the source, the default setting is not to delete that file at the destination. Although this setting is advised when using DropSync as a backup tool, it is not desirable if the goal is to mirror data between locations.

To enable propagation of file deletions (global setting);

  1. Choose DropSync > Preferences:
  2. Enable the check box labelled Allow file deletion

Enabling file deletions (above) should cause two additional columns to appear in list of synced items in the main DropSync window

Deletion Columns

Enabling deletion for individual synced items;

  1. First enable file deletion at the global level (see above)
  2. To delete items on the Synced Place when an item is deleted on the local computer, click the grey up arrow. The arrow should now be black and have a red tip
  3. To delete items locally that have been deleted on the synced place, click the grey down arrow. The arrow should now be black and have red tip

Note that deletion only takes place during a sync in the appropriate direction. When using the deletion option take care to inspect previews to avoid accidentally deleting items
