Using a Synced Place Trashes Directory
A Synced Place trashes directory provides additional security against accidental deletion of files on the Synced Place. (Note that a local trashes directory is always created and enabled regardless of the settings used for Synced Place trashes directories)
A Synced Place Trashes Directory performs the following functions;
- Stores copies of files that are deleted as a result of Sync operations where the Synced Place is treated as the destination
- Stores copies of files that are updated as a result of Sync operations where the Synced Place is treated as the destination
To enable the use of a Trashes Directory on a Synced Place:
- Choose Synced Places > Configure to open the Configure Synced Places Window
- Select the Synced Place for which you want to set the trashes directory
- In the right hand side of the window select the advanced tab
- Click to enable the checkbox next to Use a trashes directory at the synced place.
- Check that the value for the directory to use for trashes is appropriate (see below)
The default value for the directory to use for Trashes should be sufficient for most situations. When choosing a custom value for this directory the following should be taken into account.
- It should be a subdirectory of the Synced Place itself
- There should be no spaces in the name of the directory
- You must have permission to create files on the Trashes Directory
- Sufficient disk space should exist on the Synced Place so that trashes files can be stored
- Emptying the Synced Place trashes directory must be done manually
- Retrieving files from the Synced Place trashes directory must be done manually
