You just finished installing a nice baseboard trim -- only to have Rover decide it makes for a great chewing toy. While it might be obvious to you, Puppy probably doesn't know that chewing the baseboard trim is not acceptable -- so you need to let him know about it. Another option is to spray the baseboard trim with something disgusting that will send your dog running the other way. Chewing is normal dog behavior, which is not what you want to hear if you have a dog chewing your baseboards.
This only works if he's chewing on a particular section of the trim -- otherwise, you'll have to spray your whole house. Taste deterrents, like their name implies, make whatever they are applied to taste bad, making it unappealing to your dog when he starts chewing.
This is the easiest way to prevent your dog from chewing on something you don't want him to chew on.

If your dog only chews when you are gone, he chews near the exit to the house, and the behavior is accompanied by barking, whining or howling, frantic running through the house, and even urinating in the home, your dog may be suffering from separation anxiety. Apply the taste deterrent to any areas your dog likes to chew, as well as the adjacent baseboards so he doesn't expand his range. Regardless of the reason, chewing on baseboards presents a different problem than chewing on shoes or other household items. Taste deterrents are typically safe to use on most surfaces, but you may want to apply a small amount to a hidden area of your baseboard before spraying it over the entire area.
When you are distracted or leave the house, put him in a crate to prevent him from chewing. Once their attention, exercise and chewing needs are met, most dogs will not find baseboards particularly appealing. Even if you have a fenced yard, don't assume your pup will exercise hard enough to wear himself out.

Give him a toy or a bone to chew on so he knows there are better options than chewing your house off.
You can't put the baseboards away to treat the problem, so you must teach your dog not to chew, and limit his exposure to the baseboards until he understands the rules. A few squeaky ones to attract attention plus a few hard ones -- as hard as baseboard, if possible -- for times when only intense chewing will do.
In the meantime, minimize the amount of time you are away from your dog, and keep him in a crate or other safe area while you are gone.
