Smooth Coat – Dogs who are smooth-coated do not need to be groomed often, so make sure to focus on quality over quantity when it comes to bathes and brushing.
Wire Coat – This coat type, also known as Broken Coat, requires a slicker brush and a stripping comb. Curly Coat – Dogs with a curly or wavy coat, have thick and soft curls close to the body. As of May 2013, the World Canine Organization recognized 339 different breeds of dog, but that number is always growing.

You will need a slicker brush or pin brush for either length and a wide-toothed comb as well, for double-coated dogs with long hair.
All dogs are members of the same species and are capable of inter-breeding, so the number of possible combinations is virtually unlimited.
For short-haired double-coated dogs, use the brush to comb out the undercoat, brushing outward from the skin.
Giant schnauzers, Portuguese water dogs and black Russian terriers are the dogs within the working group which do not shed.


Dogs which do not shed include species in the American Kennel Club's sporting dog, herding dog, non-sporting dog, working dog, toy, terrier and miscellaneous groups of dogs.
