At every one of my weddings and shoots, one of my primary considerations is which lens I’ll use for each shot. To demonstrate this, I borrowed my friend Diana and created this focal length comparison chart.
By keeping Diana’s face relatively the same size even as I change focal lengths, you can see the shift in perspective, especially if you pay attention to the backgrounds of the images. I use the 35mm much more frequently than the 16mm as it’s a wide angle lens with less distortion. For comparison, these two images below were taken in the same room as the photo above, from roughly the same distance away.
Notice, however, that these portraits feel a lot more formal and removed than the portrait of Ragini taken at 35mm. This is another example of the 85mm focal length, taken by my second shooter Kirsten Tamme during the reception.
Compared to the image above, the perspective at 200mm may seem fairly similar to the perspective at 85mm.

Canon’s full frame body comes with a large 22.3 megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 5 image processor with enhanced noise reduction, and an expanded ISO range of 100-256,000 for amazing low light photography. The camera takes all the perks of the EOS line and uses not one, but two DIGIC 5+ image processors to allow it to capture high quality images at a blazingly fast 12 fps. When you’re running around a wedding, snapping photos of the action, it really helps to have a nice grip on a lightweight frame, and that’s where the D750 delivers.

Through a combination of video and photography techniques they were able to take the humble GIF and transform it into something classy—the cinemagraph. The first two columns are really the same idea– just with Diana framed a little differently so you can see the exaggeration of the perspective shift.
The back curb is the entire background for the 200mm photo, whereas you can see how small of a piece of the background it was in the 16mm photo. It has an intimate, close feel, but as you can see with Joseph’s face on the right, there is still a little bit of distortion at the edges. But as I used an 85mm lens (slightly longer), there is a bit less of the background context framed in the images. This is not only because they’re posed differently, but also because of the perspective in the photo. In this case, while the image does feel more distant, it also enables you to catch more intimate moments without anyone noticing.
Not surprisingly, many photographers believe that the best shots are all taken in black and white.
You would have noticed that such photographs tend to drown out the surroundings while keeping the focus just on the main piece that steals the spotlight. We suggest using drone photography for panoramic views and for a series of shots taken from high up. The best times to actually take these snaps is either at dawn or at sunset when you can expect longer shadows. Not only does the wedding dress or gown need to be captured in its entirety but the mood of the moment, the personality of the subject and facial expressions also need to be captured perfectly.
Fortunately, the decision making process is much easier if you know what you’re looking for—it’s all about striking a balance between low noise, high ISO and fast shutter speeds. It also sports dual card slots and mRaw mode allowing you take a high volume of shots throughout the wedding. Don’t let the deceptively low 18.1 MP fool you, in higher performance cameras it’s about the quality and size of the pixels, not the quantity. It sports the same 91,000 pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering III system at half the price of the Nikon D4 and combines it with 36.3 MP camera sensor—you’ll be able to produce a large spread of the bride’s dress while capturing all the minutiae. The camera is known among wedding photographers as one of the most comfortable cameras to shoot with, and because these events tend to be lengthy affairs, comfort is important. This is not only because of actual proximity, but also because perspective shifts significantly from wide to telephoto. Remember it’s not a great lens for actual portraits because it distorts at the edges.


So while I sometimes use it for group photos, I still try to keep people away from the edges. The 85mm is a perfect portrait lens, as there is no distortion on the subject, and fewer distracting background elements are included. Also, I’m standing much farther at the back of the center aisle while Kirsten is fairly close, at the side of the ceremony. Many entry level DSLRs (rebels, 60D, even the 7D) have cropped sensors, which means they do not see the focal lengths in the same way.
You’ll find that little details that get overlooked in colour photos tend to stand out beautifully otherwise. When such macro photographs are taken of smaller things that otherwise get lost in the middle of other details, like the wedding rings or even a pair of shoes, every little detail becomes highlighted. Drones can even take really good close-ups but unless your photographer is that sure about getting close enough without hurting the guests, we would say go with views from up above. Aerial photographs allow the photographer to capture a little bit more of the surrounding without losing focus on the actual subjects.
We suggest taking at least one portrait photo that involves looking directly at the camera and not away from it. Since you’ll be shooting indoors, you want a higher ISO which will allow you to shoot better in low light.
With off-center cross type autofocus (AF) points and a durable weatherproof body the 5D Mark III is an excellent main for any wedding photographer. The EOS-1D X also boasts a 61 point high density reticular AF supported by a 100,000 pixel RGB metering sensor which has its own DIGIC 4 image processor. But you can also see the distortion that happens to her face, as everything around the edges seems pulled out. Also, as for Diana herself, the perspective on the 200mm focal length is a lot more flattering than the one at 16mm (unless you’re going for that special effect).
At this medium length, you can see less of the background included as compared to the first 16mm photo for instance. My 70-200mm lens is an easy choice for ceremonies since I can shoot from afar and still frame images closely like this.
The point to note is lighting and that’s why it’s just as important to capture the right shapes and tones. The lighting should be in such a way that it enhances the beauty of the photo without spoiling anything else. With its incredible ISO range of 100-51,200 (expandable to 102,400), the EOS-1DX is more than prepared to capture the sharp clear images in the dim halls of a wedding chapel.
This means If you were to place a 35mm lens on the cropped sensor, it would appear like a 56mm  instead. Although your photographer can add black and white effects after the pictures are taken in colour, we suggest shooting them in black and white itself. This means that when it comes to the best DSLRs for wedding photographers, you have to go with full frame DSLRs.
