166The main goal of product photography is to make the product look good and desirable, regardless of its material properties. Shiny surfaces such as glass will reflect anything that stands in front of them, including the light source itself. Softbox is a great and highly versatile light modifier that produces soft even light that can do wonders for still-life photography. There are Four factors that make a soft box a challenging tool when it comes shooting glass. The black border often can have a problematic effect by causing a negative (black) reflection or creating an unwanted sharp edge on the reflection.
The solution to all Softbox issues is suspending a smooth border-less diffusion in from of it.
If you are using clamp lamps or any other type of continuous light, you can use exact same setup. Though glass is a tricky subject to shoot, it can produce rewarding results if you take the time to make sure the reflection and lighting is right.
Every last dropas I don\\\’t have a soft box these have black background and lighting was done with a hand held LED torch, therefore a long exposure of 20-30 seconds so I was able to high light the areas to obtain the reflection from the glass and crystal.

Glass, which is both translucent and reflective, can be one of the most challenging subjects to shoot; when you are shooting glass, getting some good looking reflections is the key to producing an image that will flatter the subject best, but it is not always as easy as it looks. One of the most important goals in shooting subjects of this quality is to get the light source itself to be visually appealing, and allow it to reflect in the desired spot on the subject. It also has some qualities, however, that make it a less than ideal solution for shooting reflective and translucent objects. Softbox has a wrinkly duffle as a front diffusion element. That could be a big issue, because when you get the glass in sharp focus the reflection gets in sharp focus as well, causing all the wrinkles in the duffle become visible in the final photograph.
This can be minimized by taping over the border with white “gaffer” or white “artist” tape. The size can be of any length and width, which can vary depending on the roll from 24 inches to 72 inches wide.
It is important to know all of the variables when shooting any object; adjusting the tools and lights to flatter your subject best will optimize the quality of your photography, and the subject itself.

This issue can be solved by owning every softbox on the market ranging from extra small to a 6 footer.
This gives a photographer a total control of how the edge of reflection will appear, depending on their creative direction and whether they’d prefer a hard edge or smooth gradual edge. I used the timer on this one.  I have a big piece of white construction paper I bought for $1, I hit the shutter and pretty  much covered the forks. If you use a flash, you will either wash out the item (over illuminated) or it will be under illuminated with lots of dark areas and uneven lighting from one side to the other.
The back of the paper rested on the back of the table and I held it directly above the camera. Each picture I took I moved the white construction paper around which would move where my light was hitting the forks. The enclosed system wraps even and balanced light around the entire product you’re photographing. Turn off the flash on your camera, and if you can, connect the camera to the wall using a power adapter. Other lighting systems, like "The Box"™ also contain light on the back, top and doors. The first thing we need to do is to take advantage of the maximum depth-of-field that any camera has to offer. Silver jewelry, in most instances, tends to be a natural mirror that reflects everything that is around it. For this reason, one has to carefully place silver jewelry and with the correct surroundings in order to create an image that can truly show the silver jewelry piece in its true and natural look. This contrast, lets the jewelry appear natural in color while creating a three-dimensional look. In some photos you will see the reflection of the camera lens, or other surroundings. Though it may seem obvious, shadows are created when an object is exposed to direct lighting (which can come from light in a room, the sun, or through the use of a regular lamp); while reflections are created in any object that is composed of reflective materials such as metals or glass. The wax is hard and resistant, yet flexible enough for you to handle it and mold it to your needs. By placing the LED's on a precise angle, the effect creates multiple points of light, which brings out even more surface sparkle. Most LED natural daylight products will not allow you to control the intensity of the light with a dimmable switch, but in this example we have used the Mini-Lite 350-2, that does contain a dimmer switch and allows you to control the light. Once you have the light box turned off, you will be able to see only how much LED light you will be using. If fluorescent lighting is used, there will be a shift in the color of your gem stones and precious stones which might not allow you to appreciate them in their natural colors and characteristics.
While we do recommend halogen lighting to the previously mentioned types of stones, we encourage you to test both types of light. Please remember that when photographing with halogen lighting, you need to adjust the white balance of your camera.
This is a technique regularly used for photographing a very special and unique item, as it has as a purpose to make the product stand out and look "twice" as nice (the reflection). White is the most popular background used in product photography for the internet and catalogs. This is essential in order to manually allow your camera to adapt to your photography lighting environment (studio). Wrap-around means that the photography environment must enclose your items from all sides so that nothing from the outside reflects in your jewelry. Diffused Lighting means that the lighting that illuminates your jewelry should pass through a light diffuser (like the inside of the Lighting systems) so that the light does not hit your jewelry directly, which would otherwise create shadows in your photos (like sunlight does).Place a white background inside your photography lighting system (If it doesn't already contain one).
By changing the shutter speed of your camera you are able to make your photos darker or brighter. Play around with the shutter speed and figure out the which shutter speed provides you with the best photo - one that is not too dark, and not too light.Edit your photo's brightness and contrast.
By just adding a little bit of brightness and contrast to your photo, you'll be able to achieve this. If you want to shoot straight down from the top, you only need to place the black velvet on the bottom platform (not in the back).Follow steps 4 and 5 from above, and if needed also follow step #6 (you might not need to). Today's digital cameras can capture even the most small details found in your jewelry (even fingerprints and dust), and for this reason it is very important that you properly clean your jewelry before you begin to photograph it.
Otherwise, we can promise you that you'll see tiny dust particles or fingerprints in your jewelry!
