Irradiance Map - The basic idea is to compute the indirect illumination only at some points in the scene, and interpolate for the rest of the Points. Number of passes - The light cache is computed in several passes, which are then combined into the final light cache.
Roughness - This parameter can be used to simulate rough surfaces, or surfaces covered with dust.
The wood rack is made of a VRay Material with a Diffuse map and a slight amount of Reflection and Glossiness. This tutorial explains all steps to illuminate an object with a technique which simulates the illumination techniques of a photo studio. Before we begin it is very important to inform you that we will use mental ray as render engine (version 8 and 9 of 3ds Max).
This tutorial will show you how to set up a sunset lighting using V-Ray Sun and V-Ray Sky in 3ds Max.
Use just one light, then carefully add more lights one by one, depending on what you see in test renders to avoid messing up your lighting effect.
