Just taking a little time to think about your photo before snapping can make a world of difference! There are numerous tips I could give you to help you take better photos, but here are three simple photography tips that I think will help anyone.

You can’t tell by the photos what size the plate actually is, and the food easily fills the plate! If your camera is on the AV option, this should be the only portion of the exposure triangle you are manually manipulating. This is a FIXED LENS which basically means it can help you learn to shoot in manual or use things like aperture priority (discussed above) with ease. It is a perfect lens for everyday moms who don’t want to spend a ton of money on fancy equipment. If you have something colorful in your photos that is visually dominating, like an orange bucket for example, try making your photo black and white. If you have a great background try bringing the subject closer to the camera so they don’t get lost. It is okay to shoot multiple photos with only slight variations…keep and share your best photos. Your eyes can look at a person in front of a sunset and see their smile but your camera can’t. Is there a garbage can or other unwanted item in the frame that can be eliminated by simply moving a foot or so to the left or right?
What makes it even more rewarding is the fact that you are making someone else beautiful through your camera. Both are great subjects for portrait photography, but you have to select the best according to the composition you are have in mind.


A natural pose is great, but you can also have fun directing unusual an unusual pose or stance. Because the first day of school tends to be so busy my favorite time to  take my camera along with me is to meet the teacher night or even take a moment to snap some photos on the second or third day of school when things have settled down a little bit. These little things really help to tell the story of your child’s school experience and as your child’s skill levels change and develop through the years these photos are really precious to look back on!
Both lens types will allow you to be further away from your subject physically, but still capture closeup photos that look like you’re right in the action. Snap a photo with your child and their teacher on the first day of school and again on the last day. It’s more about documenting their growth than anything else (and wearing cute outfits too!).
