With numerous activities including a continental shoot off between the USA and UK, 20 varied stands, a spectator village and hundreds of guests there was plenty for everyone. The above sequence was taken by a Flickr photographer by the name of diyosa on her Nikon D50 DSLR which shoots at up to 2.5 frames per second (this sounds a lot but in the scheme of DSLRs its on the lesser end.
In actual fact she took these shots over a longer period (just under a minute) but it illustrates the effectiveness of shooting lots of shots quickly as it’s produced a beautiful series of shots that would look wonderful framed together like this or even in a photo album on the same page.
It’s a particularly useful mode for taking shots of any situation where there is movement. Shooting images so quickly means your camera will not usually have time to directly save your images to your memory card.
It can take a bit of practice to use continuous shooting mode in order to get the right number of shots. Photo Source: The above photo sequence was kindly provided by a wonderful photographer by the name of diyosa. In 2009, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho and then began law school in Florida. I soon realized that photography was what made me HAPPY, so after graduating from law school and passing the bar, I gave up my career in law and chose to pursue photography full time.
I love all different kinds of photography, but I still consider myself a landscape photographer.
I spend most of my time on Improve Photography Plus, the website where you can get all of the Improve Photography products (over $2,000 value), for just $19.95 per month. One of the coolest things I get to do on Improve Photography is lead FREE photo workshops all around the world. Also, I publish a free newsletter every Tuesday where I share one of my photos, and exactly how I made it.
Aside from my photography, I love flying my RC helicopter, sneaking in a game of airsoft on Saturday mornings, and playing with my kids. This is what I admire most, when professional photography experts share their precious ideas to people who’s willing to learn the art of photography.
Thank you and if you are ever in the area, I would love to pick your brain and learn more if possible!
I learn from other resources too but your resource remains consistent and something I look forward to every week. I am developing my own personal style to be that of a streetscapist to capitalise on where I live: London, specifically East London which some call the most culturally diverse region in the Western hemisphere with certain parts of the area encouraging street artists (and of course where Banksy did most of his work before he moved on to New York). Some laptops, including all apple books, have ambient light sensors that adjust the screen dynamically based on the conditions to try to keep it looking good. Shooting Stars has simple instructions for getting you started using your camera under the stars.
Part 1, The Sky at Night, introduces some basic astronomy concepts, to help you understand what you can expect to see at night from different places on Earth and at different times of the year.
Part 3 covers Image Processing, concentrating on the particular techniques and steps you will need to get the most out of your night sky images. Part 4, Wonders of the Night Sky, will inspire you to get outside with your camera more often.

This handy field guide provides a quick summary of the exposure settings you need for each style of night sky photography. Shooting Stars is a downloadable PDF file, which can be viewed on a number of devices a€“ laptop and desktop computers, iPhone or Android devices, iPads, and other tablets. For iPad specific users, you can download this ebook (or any pdf document) directly to iBooks, which will allow you to access it at any time.
Most cameras these days have them and if you get in the habit of using it the results can be quite wonderful. Obviously photographing children is one such situation but there are many others including the photography of sport, animals, and even in portrait photography. Of course the beauty of shooting in a digital format is that even if the second, third and forth frames that you take are not as good as the first – you can just delete them afterwards with no cost associated. Some DSLRs have a continuous focussing feature to help with this but in simpler cameras you might find that the focussing just cant keep up. Some cameras are more sensitive than others when it comes to their shutter release and in some cases it’s difficult to take just a single shot. A My photos have been purchased by fine art buyers and businesses, and have been published by well known publishers such as Reader’s Digest, Nikon USA, Time, as well as other magazines and newspapers.
A There’s just nothing like waking up at 4AM to get in position for the morning light in the mountains.
A I don’t charge a dime (just pay your own travel expenses) and anyone is welcome to join. A The Improve Photography Podcast is a free 45-minute audio show that you can subscribe to on your smart phone or mp3 player, or listen to from a computer. A I’m on the Facebook group multiple times per day and read every single message posted on the wall from over 470,000 fans. A I even share the unedited picture straight out of the camera to show what I did in post, and my camera settings. A I have an AMAZINGLY supportive wife, Emily, and two children: Ruger (7 years old), and Cole (5 years). Every morning before coming in to the studio, I teach a morning Bible study class for the teenagers at my church.
A And I hold the world record for the longest distance ever traveled while shooting tiddlywinks!
He has been in school 7 years and we have been married 7 years and were broke but man it’s nice to have him done. I recently installed Lightroom and took a crash course in photo editing to the point I am now making professional quality images. I have recently discovered and acknowledged my love for photography as it is my happy place away from work. One of these days I’ll make it to one of your workshops or travel get together shoots.
It begins by discussing your camera and lenses and how to use them to turn the faint light of the night sky into stunning images. Examples and screen captures are provided for Photoshop, Lightroom, ACDSee and Aperture but the instructions can easily be applied using any other image processing application. This final part covers interesting events, features and phenomena that you can see at night and how to apply night sky photography techniques to capture them. It also describes where to find camera settings particular to this type of photography on popular DSLRs from Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax and Sony. Top clay shots and teams from around the world descended upon High Wycombe in Buckinghamshre for a week of top level shooting. That means if she activates this mode and then holds her finger down on the shutter she can shoot five shots like the above ones in just two seconds.
A He also hosts the runaway success Improve Photography Podcast each week and runs a network of other photography podcasts. A I found that the only things that helped me see the good things in life were (1) my wife and kids, and (2) going out at night to do landscape photography.
A With the podcast, you can get your photography fix while commuting, driving, working, etc.
A I distinctly remember telling Emily one night during law school that I was considering not practicing as an attorney, but instead continuing my work as a professional photographer. It looks like you could give Scott Kelby a run for his money, as the largest computer book author in the world? Please keep up the good work and trust that TONS of people will find this utterly invaluable. I stumbled across your site and podcast, subscribed and listened to all the current episodes and working my way through episodes from a year ago. I’m hoping one day I will be able to make it full time as a photographer as you have.
I managed to get a bunch of shots but none were cooler than this photo of Steve shooting the moon rays that was bursting through the clouds. Shooting Stars will show you how to shoot the moon and the stars with just your digital SLR and a tripod.
In addition to simple advice about the camera settings to use for each style of night sky photography, Shooting Stars provides detailed discussion of the finer points of imaging in low light conditions. Most importantly, it describes three techniques for how to get accurate focus at night when your autofocus fails you.
This field guide is included free as a special bonus when you purchase Shooting Stars today.
The more shots you take the longer it will take after you stop shooting before you can start shooting again as the process does usually take a fair bit of processing power from your camera. A Over 1 million photographers from around the world follow him on social media to see his photos from travels around the globe as he holds completely free photography workshops with readers. A Because I enjoy so many different types of photography, I haven’t pigeon-holed this website into just landscape or just portrait photography. I think the human element really added an extra dimension to the photo that would otherwise be bland without it.
Ita€™s a reference youa€™ll keep coming back to and will help even professional photographers learn more about their camera and how to use it at night. At least one of these techniques is guaranteed to work with whatever camera and lens you are using. Your impressive going to law school and making time for this, I bet it helps keep you sane though. This section also describes additional equipment and accessories that will enable you to do more with your camera at night and help make the experience more enjoyable. A His landscape and portrait photography work has been published in some of the world’s largest publications.
