As you can see from the transmission curve of Canon Digital Rebel and Nikon D50, the internal filters only let light between 350 nm and 700 nm pass through. Hydrogen alpha (deep red, 656.28 nm), which is even shorter than the starting of infrared (above 720 nm). The transmission curve for a UV, Hoya R72 IR filter and the internal filter of D50 and Digital Rebel.
The internal blocking filter of digital camera cut the IR so agssively that almost no IR can get through! The Digital Rebel filter looks red at an angle, because it actually absorb and reflect red and infrared light. Why not remove the internal UV-IR blocker and let the infrared light happily, freely hit the sensor! Please shoot me an email if you have any questions, and I will reply as soon as I pick up some wifi signal! I don’t recall exactly how long it took before I was able to look at the letters on the menu dial of my camera and see anything other than alphabet soup. In part this was due to the ability of the modern DSLR camera to auto select settings that result in good photos.
But the real experimentation started when I took the leap of faith required to dive into the alphabet soup settings on the menu dial: A, M, P and S.
A, is for Aperture Priority, a setting where you manually select the aperture and the camera fill in the other settings. Suppose your shooting with the kit zoom lens that came with your camera and the focal length (zoom) is set to 50 mm (millimeters). Bill Ferris uses his camera to capture dynamic landscape photos of the wilderness places he visits. This year I wanted to set up a fun, Valentine-inspired shoot this year.  I repurposed my lemonade stand (made by my hubby with pine wooden fence planks from Home Depot and created a Valentine Kissing Booth. I found the white bucket for $15 at a local thrift store and filled it with a dozen red roses. The Love banner was purchased at a local vintage store but would be super easy to make.  Just hot glue triangles onto twine and stamp hearts and Love with paint and foam brushes from your local craft store.
Lips on sticks are a cute way to add props to your kissing booth.  Mine were created by cutting lips out of scrapbook paper and taping them onto a small wooden dowel purchased for just pennies at a local craft store. The aqua chair was a thrift store find for less than $10 and repainted and distressed using a chain, sandpaper, a screwdriver, and a hammer.
Add some sweet treats like frosted heart cookies and Valentine cupcakes and three adorable models and you have an adorable themed set-up!
My daughter’s Valentine dress is from Corinna Couture and her headband is from The Pink Elephant Bowtique. So to feed my addiction without angering hubby further, I have been obsessing over glitter in Photoshop. First off, these directions, while easy to understand, require a little bit of knowledge with Photoshop. First off, you’ll need to download your textures and define each of them as a pattern.
One you are happy with your text placement and design (don’t worry- we will NOT be rasterizing the text, so you will be able to still make changes later), select the first layer you want to add texture to. You can play around with how thick, dark or spread out you’d like the outline (stroke) or shadow (drop shadow) to be in those menus.

In order to capture the infrared light (sometime, even the dark red) more efficiently, the internal blocking filter must be modified. As you can see from the transmission curve of the internal filters, the transmission of the internal filter in the infrared region is very minimal at most.
It certainly wasn’t overnight after first getting the camera, weeks at a minimum but probably closer to months. In addition to being an anagram for, spam, those four letters tease and temp a new photographer with hints of the unknown and mysterious.
In short, when you shoot with a small f-number, you’re letting more light into the camera to fall on the sensor. Why should you care that the aperture needs to be bigger during the golden hour than at high noon? For landscape photography or any photography where you want to capture sharp, detailed images with good depth-of-field, a tripod is essential gear. As a general rule when shooting handheld, you want exposure times to be no slower than the reciprocal of the lens focal length.
The next time you’re out with your camera, experiment with using the A or aperture priority setting.
In addition, Bill enjoys photographing cityscapes and shooting portraits in natural settings. It is really, really easy to make your own glittered text, and today I am going to show you how {and provide a free download for some glitter textures I made myself from a glittered ribbon I photographed}.
I first found glittered text through Pugley Pixel, and highly recommend checking out her tutorial (and awesome downloads- they are very, very affordable) for more complete information. To do this, download the textures (link at the bottom of this post), and save it to your computer. For example, in this photo I am using 4 different colors, so each line is a separate layer.
I usually keep the stroke at 1px and lower the opacity to around 40% or less or it seems a bit harsh for my personal taste. Courtney writes the popular creative lifestyle blog Sweet C’s Designs- a site devoted to delicious everyday recipes, home decor, crafts, DIY inspiration, and photography tips. I am using Elements, and everything worked fine, except my glitter pattern layer has a line through it and the glitter pattern blurs slightly from the line.
I heard a big rumbly truck driving down the street and looked to see what it was and realized they were stopping in front of our house!
She did miss a day of day care but it resolved within a few days and she's back to her normal self.
If you’re framing a shot at high noon on a sunny day, there’s a lot of light hitting your subject. This transforms the background trees into a pleasingly abstract tapestry of hues and textures complimenting the subject of the photo.
He has been capturing natural High Dynamic Range (HDR) images since 2006 and is always looking for creative ways to photograph subjects. I am a volunteer coordinator for a nonprofit in New Orleans and am just now breaking into designing some of our fundraising and development materials. Great job on the glitter text tutorial, I often find that glitter made in Photoshop often looks cheap and very fake but your glitter looks very natural and realistic and without the cheese factor. Some recent activities have been strawberry picking, a family festival complete with rides, face painting, and a pie eating contest, and something called Free Fun Fridays where there is free entrance to select museums on Fridays throughout the summer.I also get good tips from daycare, Miss Christine mentioned that there is a place near here that is an indoor play area that includes a miniature grocery store, craft area, miniature post office. Too bad the weather has been complete crud since it was put in and we haven't been able to use it. I usually will check the exposure, especially if there are many foliages in the viewfinder!
This abundance of ambient light means your camera’s aperture can be small and still allow enough light to hit the sensor to capture a beautiful image with a short exposure. When we started this discussion, we began by imagining a scenario of taking a picture at high noon on a sunny day. Depth of field is the range of distance within which objects or people will be in focus in a photograph. If shooting at sunset to capture a landscape illuminated by that gorgeous, soft light, the lens won’t be letting much light into the camera.
It also allows you to shoot at low ISO’s of 400 or less during the golden hour and still capture great detail.
It is just as unruly as it is beautiful- we have glitter on plates, hands, kids faces, dog pillows, couches, in the carpet… everywhere! Only registered members may post questions, contact other members or search our database of over 8 million posts. Anyway, we got walloped with the surprise Nor'easter last week and my whole town basically lost power.

I can pretty much just look at it to be able to tell what to do so I think I'll whip this up for her to wear in Fall.
We bought a fire pit and we have a little bistro set that we used on the deck of our previous apt. I didn't have any make up on and still had my jams on which is ok because it was just a tank top and yoga pants. With all of the planning for M's birthday, I really forgot about it. The names say everything you need to know about their function and made it easy to explore settings other than Auto. Let’s change the time from high noon to the golden hour, that first hour after sunrise or last hour before sunset when natural light is soft, warm and dramatic. But if you’re shooting with an entry-level camera, an image shot at ISO 800 will often looking grainy and rough. Once unlocked, this device will work with compatible GSM service providers all over the globe! They have an infant play area but it's pretty much what our library has but I'm curious to see what the place is all about and to see if it's something we might revisit as she gets older. And it's not like I planned anything major, it was mostly just forcing him to finally decide on his birthday meal and dessert, but I guess between birthday planning, mothering, working it slipped through the cracks.
Yes, I was getting all radical with my camera and trying different menu dial positions just weeks after getting it. These terms mean the same thing, the ratio of the focal length of your camera lens to the diameter of the lens opening (aperture) allowing light to fall on the camera sensor.
In other words, the person who’s the subject of the photo is in focus but anything in the foreground or background will be out of focus.
On top of that, we desperately need to get to Costco today, we are running out of diapers and wipes! We tried to revive her with a feeding but she was pretty much all set with the fishies for the day.
So, in order for your camera to allow the same quantity of light on its sensor as a shot taken at noon, the aperture needs to be larger. To put everything from the most distant butte to the blooming foreground wildflower in focus, you need to shoot using a large focal ratio. The same scene that can be captured with an ISO of 200 at high noon, may require an ISO setting of 800 during that dusky time around sunset.
Any slower speed will allow the camera to capture the vibration or unsteadiness of your handhold.
Write down or make a mental note of those settings and spend the rest of the day shooting with them. I was very uninspired by anything at Target this year and knowing she wouldn't be going trick or treating didn't help me in the motivation department to venture beyond Target's red walls. After being gouged $18 for parking, and that was the validated rate, we headed home to pack for the other adventures of the weekend. Bokeh is a Japanese term describing the portion of a photograph that is obviously out of focus. I think A will have fun answering the door and seeing the other kids; I think she'll be ready to go next year.
When shooting a portrait, obvious bokeh in the background is typically very pleasing to the eye. If the camera is mounted on a tripod, that rock solid platform will allow you to take longer exposures producing crisp, focused photographs.
Most of M's extended family have not met A yet, so the whole family was coming over on Sunday. The way to create bokeh in your shot is to shoot using a small focal ratio or f-number, the smaller the better. She was great in the car, pretty much slept the whole way, waking up just before our usual pit stops and then falling right back to sleep when we got back in the car.
The naps in the pack and play were dicey the first day, and she cried off and on for the first hour after going down for the night but then she was fine.
The next day, she napped much better, charmed the pants off all of the family, and avoided her usual day 2 meltdown. She went to bed without any issues and actually slept straight through ( I think part of the reason for the success is that she can't drop the pacifier out of the side of the pack and play like she does with the crib). The ride home was fine, she slept for only 45 minutes of it, but I sat in back and played with her and we successfully avoided any major meltdowns.
