Melbourne is graced with so many possibilities for wedding photography that it's very difficult to narrow down. Its exquisite interiors, gilded and embossed wallpapers, stained glass windows, mahogany and marble all come together beautifully in constructing the Italianate Renaissance revival extravagance with Second Empire touches and a hint of Germanic gothic that is Labassa — a perfect setting for a wedding.
Montsalvat has a gorgeous rustic ambience and a fine mix of French Provincial and Medieval buildings. In Melbourne, Ormond Pier is one of the very best locations in the inner south east, versatile, uncluttered, with rows of steps diagonally on to the western light, and the pier surrounded by a strong square balustrading, lending long shadows to the edge of your frame. If your idea of visiting the beach is sand, grit, flyaway hair and squints then think again. Some rooms in The Grand Hotel feature high ceilings and mezzanines that offer plenty of opportunities for creative photography, and tall curtained windows great for portraiture. At Serendipity Photography we were smitten nineteen years ago — the Windsor is superlative for Melbourne wedding photography. At Serendipity Photography we appreciate the fine blend of old and new the GPO locale provides, the strong curves and textures and dramatic columns, the fantastic space of the colonnade. The surrounding areas have space and light, and are brilliant for larger groups or wedding photography involving several cars and the bridal party. Built on vast grounds in 1878 in a Jacobean style, Billilla Mansion is a classic example of turn-of-the-century Victorian architecture. In our many years experience photographing weddings, we have found few good places where couple love having their location wedding photos done. A lot of couples travel from all areas of Sydney to have our landmarks in the backgrounds of their wedding photos.

We have seen the popular wedding couple shot along the foot path with the fountain as either a shooting point or as a background.

You may want to mix the grand opulence and history of some of Melbourne's best classic buildings with a long cool dash of contemporary chic. Here is a list of ten wedding photography locations at the Serendipity Photography really recommends, ranging from Melbourne's gold-rush opulence to the new-rush of transparent urban cool. The grounds are luscious with flowers and green most of the year and a ceremony or reception package at Montsalvat also includes time for photography around the grounds. Ormond Pier's broad expanse allows even the largest bridal party room to strut and fret, the light sharply curving around the players — here couples can sculpt lines and shapes of desire, and the warm sun will fulfill all promised vows.
At Serendipity we love clouds and horizons and we revel in vast expanses of sky brought to perfection through a wide palette of controlled photography techniques and a caring eye.
The South Melbourne Town Hall offers, as well as the expected classic temple frontage with steps, portico and columns, grand wings ample space and a huge Victorian tower, other delights on other frontages. There's more to the Royal Exhibition Buildings and the Carlton gardens than beautiful architecture and design, the area is also a landmark of Victorian history. At Serendipity Photography we're always happy to work in such beautiful locations with such significance to local history.
Usually what happens is that most of the brides and grooms allow  a bit of time for a photographic session between the ceremony and reception in order to have their best wedding photos done. Similar all other beaches are a good destination such as Manly Beach, Dee Why, Bondi, Clovelly, Cronulla , Palm Beach depending on the wedding venue location.
Or, as a couple you may want the romance of a strictly vintage style, maybe with a dash of country classic. Not the easiest, but as we sometimes say to Serendipity clients — the closest you can get to Paris in Melbourne! Receptions and ceremonies can be held in either the Great Hall or beside the ornamental pond. Drama aside, Ormond Pier is also close to everything, easy to get to, and has generous parking all while looking good! Kerford Rd is close to the city, has good amenities, a cafe and shade, which is invaluable on a hot day in formal attire.

The Grand Hotel is sually fantastic at any time in the afternoon; wedding photographs against the building, especially in Autumn with fallen leaves, make beautiful backdrops. Built in 1883, and having gone through many significant changes, such as the addition of the mansard roofed towers in Second Empire style. The GPO is a great wet weather photographic location, and is close to wonderful streetscapes and other notable buildings, good for optimising your wedding location photography opportunities, particularly since, as it is often for many wedding couples, time is short. At Serendipity, we appreciate the way light plays over the many different surfaces and styles of the South Melbourne Town Hall facades and enjoy the variegated colours and textures of the surrounding buildings. The garden as designed to compliment the Royal Exhibition Building has two ornamental lakes created in 1880, the beautiful French Fountain, and the even more elaborate Hochgurtel fountain, which mimics the themes Royal Exhibition Buildings, are complex and brilliant. William Weatherley remade Billilla in the fashionable Art Nouveau style in 1988; couples can enjoy photography is the beautiful curved porch with carved columns, sweeping stairs and deco motifs. There are plenty of spots where you can see bride after bride walking around with the groom, bridal party and teams of photographers and videographers.
Some couples only want urban glitz and bling, and go for crazy cool hotel foyers, fractal facets and fine glass detailing at Federation Square, or catch sharp slivers of sunset at the Web Bridge.
At Serendipity we're great at low-light photography, and have the perfect techniques required to catch Labassa's unique atmosphere, and bring a thorough knowledge of RAW conversion techniques that help to bring out Labassa's beauty as a wedding photography location.
There is also a bluestone chapel for ceremonies that can seat about fifty and has a charming rustic feel. Kerford Road Pier has been Serendipitya€™s top choice as the best wedding photography location in the Melbourne inner bayside area for difficult days or when time is short for over twenty years!
At a pinch it can also serve as a good location for a shoot in the rain under the cover of the classic Victorian doorways. The Hotel Windsor has more great photography locations just outside your room, from the stylish period corridors to the grand staircase in the foyer, also beautifully appointed. This classic building makes a heavenly backdrop to an inspired collection of wedding day shots. We love its accessibility and its clean, elegant lines a€” each aspect of this beautiful building seems to have its own character. The gardens deserves special mention; after severe damage during a cyclone in 1918 the grounds were remade in a classic Victorian style featuring a fountain and rose garden, and grounds are shady with many lush evergreens. The great hall has polished wood floors and the lead-light windows and has a much greater capacity.
The staircase is authentic turn-of-the-century design and affords many photo opportunities. As in the original decades of the General Post Offices service faces onto the colonnade, boutiques and niche eateries tempt even the most jaded visitor. If you value the sophisticated and charming effect that historic architecture provides, then the South Melbourne Town Hall is wonderful option.
Billilla Mansion is one of Serendipity Photographya€™s favourite Bayside locations, close enough to the city and many of Melbournea€™s favourite reception churches and favourite reception centres.
Serendipity Photography thoroughly recommends Montsalvat for gorgeous wedding photography, particularly for those who want a more romantic, charming or historic feel.
The Hotel Windsor follows the common rule of grand hotels in Melbourne, that only weddings that are having a reception at the Windsor are permitted to be photographed on the premises.
The strong regular rhythms of the arches and columns provide a counterpoint to the continuous varieties of light within the colonnade; expressive perspectives add weight and contrast with the delicate tracery of GPOa€™s much loved wrought iron gates. Perfect for wedding celebrations where subtle tones, and timeless aesthetic details are the order of the day. Given gorgeous grounds and a wonderful historic building Billilla ticks all the boxes for a multi purpose one stop shop wedding location photography venue in the South East, that has both garden and mansion and cover — Billilla also works as a garden ceremony venue too, with just enough wet weather back up cover for a small wedding of up to 80 guests in the summer.
Serendipity have shot many, many weddings at Montsalvat, and we believe it offers some of the most exquisite location photography opportunities available in Melbourne.
We recommend that if you are wanting a elegant classic style to your reception as well as your wedding photography the Hotel Windsor is a perfect location great place spend the night before your wedding in luxury.
In essence, Billilla is perfect for couples who appreciate fine historical qualities and striking architecture, the final touch being the fairytale setting of the extensive gardens.
Every turn of the path is subtly different, every archway special, even the steps themselves are things of beauty.
Monsalvat redefines the notion of rustic, blending in with medieval elements to delightful romantic medley, perfect for your own romance and special photographic memories. Weddings at Montsalvat embody all the passion and romance that was so much a part of it's construction in the 1930s. Montsalvat now covers twelve acres with winding paths between the various buildings — of which the bluestone nondenominational chapel and a stables are particularly attractive. There is also a chapel for ceremonies that can seat about fifty and has a charming rustic feel.
