We talk about good use of time, about how to work faster, smarter, how to not get bogged down in detail, paralysed by overwhelm, waylaid by procrastination or drowning in email.
But sometimes people say to me “I’m focused, I’m clear, I’m fired up, I’ve got my baby steps, goals, projects and to-do list set up. If you feel like time is always running away from you, that you never seem to have enough time. So often the things we put off are the things that would add meaning, simplicity or joy to our lives. When I’m frustrated, bored, uncertain or resistant towards something, I feel the pull of procrastination, to actively take my mind off it. As the saying goes, life is not measure by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. As one workshop delegate recently put it, “If I choose to look at my work email at the weekend, and see something that upsets me, I’m the one who has chosen to let email ruin my weekend. The uncomfortable truth is, if you never seem to have any time for yourself, your agenda and what matters to you, you’re choosing not to give any time to yourself.
We make that choice, by what we say yes and no to, what we commit to and what we fail to commit to, what we make ourselves available to, and what we pay attention to.
And the beauty is, when we stop seeing time as something that runs away without us, when we start taking our time, we choose how we experience that time. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time, that never seems to come, I want to say to you: Take your time. If you’re dealing with new ground, ill health or challenging circumstances that mean you’re not going as fast as you’d like, it’s ok.
Whatever your circumstances, whatever lies before you this week, here’s my challenge, and my invitation. Grace, you touched on it at the beginning of your article about how trying to get something done quickly is often counter-productive.
The structure borrows heavily from contemporary urban music, and will sound familiar to anyone who has listened to a fair amount of Drake. I hate this song there’s only a couple songs on the chart that are worse Sun Daze and maybe Homegrown Honey but besides that this song sucks. Sorry about that but my country knowledge isn’t as wide I maintain that this guy should not be in country but pop rapping music. The first time I heard this song, I reluctantly liked it, and tried my best to defend it as not only a strong song, but also a genuine country song. I recently drove from Florida to Indiana, and subsequently, listened to the radio a lot during those 16 hours. Yeah, I do enjoy a lot of pop (although I prefer country and hip hop), so I’m probably not the person to ask whether this should be on country radio. I mean, I don’t let the fact that he tore Dierks a new one for stealing the chord progression from Razor Town for Home stop me from enjoying Jason Isbell.

Although, there is obviously a bit of a quality gap between Hunt & Isbell, even when you account for the genre difference (that is, Isbell makes better country than Hunt does Adult Contemporary Pop). I’m not into Sam Hunt at all, but why would he be happy about the Grammy nomination for a song that he didn’t get credit on if he felt that the song had been stolen from him? Decent choice - it's not one of my favourite songs on the album, but it's probably a bit safer choice for country radio than some of the other songs on the album. I still see "Single For The Summer" being a huge hit but maybe they never release it, give the other options.
I'm surprised to see a couple of you say this is probably the best choice for country radio, even relatively speaking. If you are constantly busy, rushing round after other people, wondering when you’ll ever have some time to yourself. They wait for the work to finish, the demands to stop, the constant busyness to slow down, so they can finally have time to do what they want to do.
Add to that the pressure of “I haven’t got time for this, I’ve got a million other things to do” procrastination becomes even more attractive.
Moments of profound joy and intense silliness, roaring laughter and peaceful silence, heartwarming connection and satisfying rest. Sometimes time flies, sometimes it drags, and that’s nothing to do with the seconds, minutes and hours, but everything to do with what we choose. Go ahead and share the love, add your voice to the comments – and don’t forget to sign up for your Monday Momentum messages direct to your inbox (over on the top right).
It is a strong recording though, and I do think Hunt as a lot of talent, but please country music. Spoken word has historically been a big part of country music, so there’s definitely a place for it in the genre. Not only does it sound less and less country to me, but it also sounds more and more manipulative. Sam confirmed in a Billboard interview that "Take Your Time" will be the second single from Montevallo. The song is very talky and even though it's pretty fast, it's pretty low key and not upbeat. I really love the chorus (even though it is musically shallow) but this one will be a station-changer just because of the cringe-worthy verses.I feel like Drake, NSYNC, and Luke Bryan just made a baby. All the horny college sluts will eat that up and download the song. Was that really necessary?
You no longer need to run or hide from it, by keeping up appearances and putting energy in this hopeless attempt to avoid the discomfort of feeling it.
And that routine may very well result in hours, days, weeks, months or even years of living, without actually being alive. Apart from a great time at Eyeworks Netherlands, where I worked as a Senior Creative with some great people at the Program Development Team, it were exciting times for me personally as well.

Focusing fully on the job to hand rather than what we’ve got to do next is surprisingly powerful! Going at something like a bull in a china shop was never the best strategy and just meant more frustration instead of keeping calm as I should have done. But with that aside, I agree with Jonathan that the spirit that this song is done in probably isn’t taking that part of country music into account, since it makes no sense for Hunt to be marketed as a country artist in the first place. Not sure if MCA will wait til the new year or give it an add date in November or early December. The chorus is pretty slow as well.Sam Hunt has a lot of momentum right now and this was the top selling album track at the album's release. Sam performed this song at his Grand Ole Opry debut, and he also sang it many times during his radio tour so I assume he got positive feedback from radio PDs. Simply because you can’t control everything and so your life can turn upside down at any moment of any day.
But I will share more in the coming months, because it’s been truly transformational.
What seems like forever, but in reality is probably just 20 minutes later, the momentum starts flowing, and I get it done. I still don't think it should be played on country radio, but that's a discussion for another day. So by letting it in and become a part of you, in a way that makes you indestructible. Daring to be vulnerable gives you power to be. Sam is opening for Lady A at Country Jam, so I wonder if UMG should just pair them up for the 747 tour in 2015.
And so I challenge you, as I challenge myself, to wonder: am I  really alive or mostly just busy breathing? The lyrics really piss me off it’s him picking up a girl for a one-night stand essentially. The benefits for Sam is obvious, but I think he could also help with ticket sales since he can bring in the male 18-30 demo that normally wouldn't go to a Lady A concert.
Interesting friends, a busy agenda, designer clothes or healthy hipster life style, but sooner or later vulnerability will find you. So what can you do?
It got beyond ridiculous when FGL had to open for Thompson Square when I went to the Luke Bryan 2013 summer tour.
