Duplicate photos always seem to find a way to creep into your iPhoto library, eating up precious storage space on your Mac. The only way to get to perfection is to delete those duplicate photos in your iPhoto library.
In this post, I will show you how to use Duplicate Cleaner to find and delete duplicate photos in iPhoto. Step 4: A pop up will appear on your screen prompting you to click Next and select iPhoto Library to begin scanning. Step 5: As prompted, select the iPhoto Library, then click on Select Library to Scan Duplicates. Step 7: Once done, Duplicate Cleaner will confirm how many duplicates it has found and how much storage is estimated to be saved if you delete these duplicates.
Step 11: All your duplicate photos are now in the iPhoto trash, which means they are still taking up space on your Mac. If you’re into photography and use iPhoto a lot, I suggest you perform a find and delete of duplicates on a regular basis. I use iPhoto to backup all my photos, which are automatically backed up using time machine. Flickr doesn’t work seamlessly for me but you guys reviewed an app Shutter by Stream Nation not to long ago and that works perfectly for me. The app called PhotoSweeper that you guys reviewed some time ago is so much better than this. I have used DuplicateFilesDeleter for deleting and finding duplicate images from my system.
The new features launched by Apple’s El Capitan OS are definitely attractive with a free upgrade. Library file is the master file where iPhoto writes all the information about each and every photo. Spotlight: If you could not locate the file in trash, the next way to search is through spotlight or the magnifying glass icon which is located on the top right corner of the menu bar.
The Finder application: This is a better option than spotlight as it narrows down the search but the steps involved are a little confusing and time consuming. The second drop down will have ‘equal’ as default that needs to be changed to ‘greater than’. After you click on Search, it would search your computer and show all the files which are above the size that was specified.
Scanning through Software: If none of the above steps helped you in finding the library file the next resort would be to download software that scans all external hard drives and find files which are lost or deleted. If the above steps could not help in locating the file or they made you absolutely confused, then there is one simple way to retrieve and get back deleted photos and that is through our recovery software – Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery Software. All you need to do is download the Software  Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery Software, install it and you would restore all your photos back into your iPhoto gallery. Kodak Camera Error – “Memory card cannot be read (please format card or insert another card)” – Solved! Computer software makes it so easy to enhance our photos that you want to be able to feel free to experiment with your edits and not feel burdened with the job of maintaining your collection all by yourself. See, up until this point, if you wanted to do a simple edit to a photograph, it was up to you to manage all of the versions for each photo. And worse, you had to be extremely careful because if your forget to give the new version a unique filename, it would overwrite your original master.
These are the only 4 programs I would recommend you use based on their longstanding track records for being solid performers and with great support.
Two of the programs are for those of you with basic to intermediate goals for your collection. And then for those of you with more advanced goals will welcome the control you will get with the remaining two photo managers. They often use in-application advertising banners, nagging pop-ups to get you to buy the premium version of the program, or offer so few features there is little reason to devote your time to them. I was using this program when it was just called Picasa for several years before it was bought up in 2004 with Google’s war chest of money. This method enables you to keep your originals stored in any folder structure you wish on your hard drive, but still have an easy way to group photos into virtual albums and edit them from within Picasa. It may not have all of the manual control over your photos the pricier (advanced) professional programs offer, but it still manages to keep up with a strong set of basic tools that every photo collection needs to have. If you own a Mac and haven’t heard of iPhoto, you are probably just walking out of the Apple store with your first one. What this means is that instead of telling iPhoto where you have stored your photos, you instead import copies of them into iPhoto and allow it to move and place them into the best storage folder arrangement. For those more adventurous, de-selecting this import feature leaves the work up to you and your own folder structure making creativity. For Mac users trying to decide between the Mac version of Picasa and iPhoto — and if you were forcing me to pick for you, I would nudge you towards iPhoto; if for no other reason than how Apple integrates all of their software to easily communicate with one another.
For example, if you are using another piece of Apple software and you want to use one of your photos stored in iPhoto, there is always a media tab or pulldown that gives you easy access to all of your iPhoto Events and photos. Seemingly little things like this, as well as familiar Mac-aesthetics, will make you appreciate going with iPhoto.

For Windows users who feel held back by the simplicity of Picasa, Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom is currently the best choice out there.
Additionally, this will be great to use if you are loyal to their flagship standalone professional photo editor Photoshop. Try not to be intimated by the sales literature suggesting this is only meant for professional photographers. On the bright side, if you are familiar with how to use Photoshop Elements, you will find the learning curve will not be as steep.
But of course, like other programs working in the same manner, this will also put more pressure on you to make sure you don’t accidentally delete or modify your master images while working with other software on your computer. For this added level of file protection, you should look into using either iPhoto or Aperture (both only available for the Mac). What’s so great about Aperture is how easy it is to use for such a professional application.
If you can operate iPhoto, there is an excellent chance you will be able to operate Aperture after just a few short tutorials or playing around in it a bit. If this sounds as exciting to you as it was for me, the minimal premium price tag isn’t going to keep you from making the investment that will pay off very quickly. Another huge advanced feature set that sets Aperture apart from a more basic program like iPhoto is its ability to manage all of the metadata of your photographs.
Much of this metadata (stored inside of a photo) is camera information created by your camera when the picture was taken and lists the settings used to expose the image. And for those who think they will miss the fun social features of iPhoto, you will be happy to know Apple seems to be trying hard now to keep the feature set of iPhoto available to their Aperture users as well. Is it possible to start using iPhoto and then upgrade to Aperture in the future or will we need to go through and make changes to the photos we have worked on already?
It actually is very possible to get your feet wet with iPhoto and then later upgrade to Aperture when you are ready. I love this website, Curtis, and will continue to mine it for the help I need as I get my massive photo project organized. Just found your amazing website, and literally just as I am about to embark on my journey of scanning.
Anyway armed with my Epson Perfection V600, Picasa and big cup of tea, got to get on with some scanning. I’ve been able to communicate now with people in Canada (Yo Art!), Sweden, Denmark (Hey Friadon Kader!), Australia, New Zealand … so many to even mention — I love it!
Following Apple's official acquisition of Beats Electronics and Beats Music, the Beats Music iOS app has been added to Apple's App Store listing of "Apps Made by Apple," giving the app high-profile placement to encourage downloads. The addition of Beats Music to the Apps Made by Apple list follows its inclusion in the list of apps recommended to new iOS users, another move that will undoubtedly result in a high number of Beats Music app downloads.
As of May, Beats Music had garnered 250,000 subscribers, a number that has likely grown significantly with the app's prominent placement in the App Store and Apple's high-profile acquisition of the company.
Unlike many of the other apps listed in the Apps Made by Apple section, Beats Music is not free. According to rumors, Apple has plans to keep the Beats Music service as a standalone entity, separate from its own iTunes and iTunes Radio offerings.
But if you feel like Apple isn't the Apple you used to know and its products in 2014 are not like its products in whenever years you valued them then there are plenty of options. Next version of iOS with overhauled notifications, lock screen, Messages, Apple Music, and much more. Strangely enough, iPhoto doesn’t have a feature that lets you find and delete duplicates, so you have to download a third party application to do this. As you can see below, the app found 304 duplicates amounting for about 4 GB of storage space. Each duplicate is put in a group, and for each group, Duplicate Cleaner selects one photo that it will be deleting. Again, you are also free to manually select each photo you want to save in each group, but it can be a bit tedious if you have hundreds of duplicates to check. You can either leave them in the trash for a while, or you can empty the trash, which will delete these photos forever and free up storage space on your Mac.
This app is no better than Gemini the duplicate finder which does every file on your system if you want.
Therefore, if you have not created a backup before upgrading there might be a possibility of data loss. You can either search with the name you gave to your library file or the default name which is provided by Apple which is iPhoto Library. From the list, if you think you have located the file just click on it once and you should be able to find the location of the file.
With the easy-to-use interface and powerful scan engine, it is able to retrieve all the deleted files.

She loves to write on latest trends in data recovery, technology, Software, latest gadgets etc. I would highly recommend you consider trying out a couple of them and then start using your favorite one.
They are the easiest to use, have a more limited set of editing tools, but are certainly adequate – especially for the price.
They come at a premium, but are well worth the initial investment considering how much they will do for you. Additionally the interface is so clean and fun to use, it’s like they are just begging us to latch onto it and trust it with our entire photo collection.
This means even the messiest of “hard drive” folder organization can appear to be tidy!
Yes, many of the features are intended to aid the needs of professional photographers and their hectic post-process.
Otherwise, you will definitely want to spend some time getting to know the application before you commit to any kind of workflow importing your photos and beginning to edit them.
You select which folders you want included and Lightroom goes to work to importing the file information for its database. But, we can use this same metadata repository to hold all kinds of information for a photo we scan — such as a caption (description of the photo), date the actual photo was taken, what scanner you used, who owns the photo, who should be contacted in the future about the photo if someone is inquiring (name and contact info). It was designed to mimic writing captions on the back of old photos and under photos in albums. In contrast, Apple's iTunes Store has sold 35 billion songs and its existing streaming radio service, iTunes Radio, has more than 40 million listeners. Beats though is a different animal because it has subscribers which were calculated in the price of the Beats acquisition. The Mac App Store has plenty of such apps available, but I personally use Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.
Once again, depending on how many pictures are being moved to the trash, it might take a few minutes to complete. I’ve wanted to have a physical backup somewhere for awhile but the digital options are so much easier. Flickr sync doesn’t work perfectly for me I had to use IFTTT to push all the photos to the site. The excitement of getting to use the new features generally causes most users to forget that they need to back up their data before upgrading.
In some cases, the upgrade just makes iPhoto library move to the trash or to some other location, after which it then creates a new library file which is empty and therefore the user thinks that all the data has been erased or deleted. Search this on the entire system drive (click show all in folder) or any other external drives which you could have used.
And that is why; it is the most easy and effective way to recover lost photos from iPhoto library after upgrading to EI Capitan in Mac.
You might be surprised how quickly you outgrow your photo manager and discover how advanced your goals have become! You have the option to have a folder not scanned at all, scanned once, or always scanned (so that any photos added later to the folder will automatically be included in Picasa as well).
But now thanks to Apple’s new Mac App Store, the price to upgrade to the newest version is extremely affordable. But instead, it’s a workhorse image editor with so many sliders, hidden panes and buttons that you will probably hear yourself say you may never have a need for the likes of Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS again!
It stores the caption in the photo file but not on the photo and displays it in slideshows with CaptionViewer.
And, because it keeps all of your images on your hard drive in easy to find folders, it’s easy to move up to Lightroom someday if you ever wanted the extra control and features.
Unlike several competing streaming music services, Beats Music does not offer a free ad-supported listening. Instead the company is spinning off different brands and it leads to a less uniform experience.
Beats did something revolutionary, headphones have been around for decades by companies like Boss and Sony but it was Beats that popularized them through the introduction of style and fashion, much like Apple does the same with its product designs. I’m currently using iCloud, Flickr, Shutter by Stream Nation, and Google+ to backup photos from my iPhone. Recently, there has been an outrage from many users about the upgrade; users claim to have lost or deleted photos, documents and music.
This process can get complicated and time consuming as you go further down the list of steps.
In case you are lucky and you find it there you just need to drag and restore it back to its original location that would be the pictures location under user. It just takes me so long to write my articles, I can’t “pump them out” fast enough for my wishes. I wish the company would focus on their core products and services and guarantee reliability and stability.
