These small (usually hard plastic) diffusers are intended to spread light, make the light source slightly larger, and get a slightly softer light quality. There are DOZENS (hundreds?) of different simple flash diffusers for sale in all different shapes and sizes. So I have written before with some great home-made options for simple lighting diffusers, but this idea is absolutely free! Step #3: Glue on a simple strip of velcro around the edge of the container that you can also connect to your flash if you want to keep it ultra secure. If you are new to flash photography and want to learn how it all works and how you can get amazing results with inexpensive flash photography gear, you should really take a look at our 30-day online portrait photography class, where flash photography is a main focus of the course.

I made a diffuser out of a 50 cent plastic salad bowl from Walmart…silver plumbing tape on the inside, and glued sewing interfacing to the rim. How would something like this compare to the smaller diffuser that came with my SB700 flash? I have also used coffee filters to diffuse the light from my pop-up flash…Just cut to size and tape over the flash.
Or a person could just spend $2 and get something like this and not fuss with old bottles and duct tape.
I made a diffuser away from home of a 50 cent plastic salad bowl from Walmarta€¦silver plumbing tape on the inside, and glued basting interfacing to the frame.
I have only tried a few of these myself, but I’ve put this list together as a resource for myself and others to try in the future. If you are new to using essential oils, pick up this great starter set of essential oils from Fabulous Frannie on Amazon. This was a diffuser idea that I thought up all on my own, and to this day it’s still my favorite.
This diffuser uses a candle or mug warmer to heat and evaporate a water and essential oil mixture into the air.
I like the idea of using water in a reed diffuser, it requires fewer special ingredients because it doesn’t use a base oil, and is a little easier to make. Some people find that these work just as well as oil based diffusers while others have no success at all.
A quick tip about making your own reed diffuser:  Many sites will suggest using wooden skewers instead of buying reeds for the diffuser.
That being said, some people do have success using small twigs of stems as a readily available alternative. This is the primary method of making your own homemade reed diffuser floating around the internet.
This reed diffuser from the doTerra blog is a little more straight forward than the one above. I really like this idea, and I will be trying it out in the next few days for sure (and I did, check out my DIY scented votive candles post).
This homemade essential oil diffuser idea is similar to the one above, however, instead of putting the essential oils directly into the candle this uses an aroma therapy oil diffuser (or you could use a wax melter) to diffuser the essential oil into the room.
In all honesty this is something I might never try, but I had to include it because it is unique and could have some great uses.
Many people will spray or place a lavender essential oil covered cloth inside their bed sheets to help them sleep at night. That’s it so far, I will add to this list as I find more homemade essential oil diffusers to try.
Let me know how these work out for you in the comments, if you found this post helpful please share it. Lately, I’ve been on a quest to purify my home by switching to products made with less chemicals. I have naturally wavy hair, and while I love the texture, I also hate the annoyances that come along with it.

Throughout high school and most of college, I put a lot of effort into making my natural waves and curls straight and smooth. So many of you have been asking about the essential oils that I’ve been using, and wanting to know how to get a deal. Now through August 31st, Young Living is offering $10 off of their BRAND NEW STARTER KIT that comes with 11 oils, diffuser, and so much more! The world of essential oils can be very confusing, so I’m using the commission money that I make to give you back freebies that will be a HUGE help in your oil journey! If you get a premium Young Living starter kit (which is, on its own, a really great deal at $160 – BUT ONLY $150 through August 31st!) then I will ALSO mail you a package of awesome Essential Oils educational materials, a set of essential oil labels to keep your oils organized,  a copy of my 5-Day Juice Cleanse, AND a $10 Amazon Gift Card! If you are ready to buy a starter kit, then be sure to sign up as a wholesale member (with one of the premium starter kits) through the instructions below to take advantage of these freebies! If you would like to earn a BONUS essential oil, then you need to get your order total up to 190 PV (different products have different point values). IMPORTANT:  This promotion is only available when you sign up with the sponsor ID and enroller ID as #2047673. If you do find yourself making regular purchases each month, then Young Living has a rewards program (called Essential Rewards) where you can make a nice percentage back in product credit each month on all of your purchases. I can’t speak to the quality of other companies, but I can say that Young Living was the only company in my research of essential oil companies that could answer all of my questions about purity in a way that was satisfactory to me.
Young Living also was the only company that was directly in charge of essential oil farming operations. I feel like it’s a trust step either way (anyone could be lying), but I felt the most comfortable trusting Young Living since they are a full-disclosure company.
One of the benefits of getting a starter kit through this promotion is that you also get to join our private Facebook group that’s specifically for questions about essential oils! The educational materials that I’m giving away as part of this promotion are also a HUGE resource.
For those who live in Canada, we will mail the book and labels, but will need to either reduce or remove the gift card to cover the extra shipping charge. Please let me know if you have any other questions at all and I will do my best to answer them!
I believe that every single person on the planet deserves to live well, eat well, and thrive!
A We have written before about what each lighting modifier does differently to impact the quality of light, but I still get a lot of questions about what little on-flash diffusers do to impact the light quality.
A Some of them, like the Gary Fong Lightsphere, are expensive and don’t do any better than Tupperware. A I’ve found that it often stays on just fine without even putting the other velcro side onto the flash, but your results may vary. A It’s just enough to take the edge off the flash and make it look much nicer than the bare flash.
Or pop up flashes, all I do is tape a tissue over the flash, and fold it either two times for things further away or four times for very lose range.
Give that empty perfume bottle on your dresser a second life and turn it into a reed diffuser. Insert the tip of your pliers under one section of the metal and gently begin to pry upward (tip: this step may take some more time for certain bottles.
I made my own laundry detergent {a project that went surprisingly well that I promise to share soon}. If you do not feel comfortable putting in your social security number (this is only for tax purposes if you decide to turn this into a business) then you can get an EIN from the IRS in just a few seconds here and use that number instead (the IRS just needs to be able to connect some number with you for tax purposes). If you already know that you want to be ordering regularly, then you can go ahead and sign up for Essential Rewards right there when you order your starter kit! To remain a wholesale member, you have to make $50 worth of purchases per year to keep your membership.

Every other company I researched goes through some kind of an “oil broker” to buy their oils. ANYONE can visit the farms, participate in the harvesting and distillation, view the Young Living labs, and see the entire process. You can look up lots of things in it and see which essential oils and supplements may be helpful. Young Living actually has an entire line of personal care products, supplements, meal replacements, energy drinks, and more! A My point in that article was simply to show that I see no difference in the resulting photo when using an expensive specialized light diffuser when compared to any old simple chunk of plastic. A Ed Cord is one of the most active (and helpful!) readers who (like a few other readers) is kind enough to answer all of your photography questions on the Facebook page. A perfume bottle is the perfect container for creating diffusers with its elegant shape that will add a decorative touch to any room and its small opening to slowly release the fragrance, filling your home with a long-lasting aroma.
But as the years went on, my hair got more wavy, more frizzy, and more difficult to handle.
Meanwhile, if I let my hair dry naturally, it would result in a mix of waves, random curls, and lots of frizz. Embracing my natural texture has not only made my hair healthier, but it has also cut my morning routine in half and made my life a whole lot easier. Several people always ask each time I talk about this starter kit if it’s just the samples. The information on this site is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. When you become a wholesale member, you get a special link that you can share with friends and get credit from their purchases, but there are no minimum sales amounts at all. They have to trust that the oil broker is telling the truth, who has to trust that the essential oil distilleries are telling the truth, who have to trust that the farmers are telling the truth about what they say they are doing.
Almost every product incorporates essential oils (for example, frankincense is absolutely wonderful in facial products), but there’s a wide variety of products available. A If you are a part of the Improve Photography Facebook group, you probably already know Ed.
Regardless of the scent you choose, a handmade diffuser will always smell a little sweeter. Errors will be corrected where discovered, and Lowe's reserves the right to revoke any stated offer and to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions including after an order has been submitted.
The mere mention of rain makes my hair instantly frizzy, and humidity creates fast curls (actually, sometimes it looks cute). Nope, you get everything in the picture and video below with your kit including the 11 5 ml bottles of oils! Please confirm any information obtained from or through this web site with other sources, and review all information regarding any medical condition or treatment with your physician. In fact, 90% of the wholesale members in Young Living don’t do the business side at all. I had a really hard time removing the metal ring though and ended up having to use wire cutters and damaged the top of the glass but oh well.. I bought flat irons, anti-frizz serum, and any other beauty product that promised straighter strands. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking medical treatment because of something you have read on this website. I got a few different keratin treatments in college, and for a few months, enjoyed effortlessly straight hair.
