Watercolor is one of those effects that can be difficult to replicate digitally, but with a little practice and experimentation I think youa€™ll find it can be rather fun. This tutorial will be based around creating a really cool watercolor effect, but this technique works just as well when creating paintings in Photoshop. Select the Eraser Tool, then select a big round brush and erase some areas from that layer, mainly in the center.
So select one of the watercolor brushes and them white for the color and paint on the layer mask of the group. The idea of this tutorial is to show how to create a design from multiple reference images, a simple sketch, and your own ingenuity. Would be a great effect for animation, doing a few frames like this and then blending them from one to the other would look fantastic. A set of free vintage ornate Photoshop brushes to use to add old school elements to your digital design or scrapbook layouts. The Academy is our video-tutorial series held by Colin Cartwright, join him to master your techniques. Is your website too plain vanilla? Does it need a splash of color, a personality or a bit of dimension? In the past, gradients have been used to create an illusion of volume and approximation to the physical world and sometimes looked too aggressive. While gradients are nothing new in web design, it has been easier than ever to create them using CSS rather than the former method of creating gradient images in Photoshop and uploading them to a website. If you are after a beautiful gradient and you don’t mind a shortcut, the first place you should head within CSS Hero is the Readymade Styles. The two examples above draw from Readymade Styles Background library, and you can apply these to any elements on your site. Another place to get lovely pre-defined gradients in CSS Hero is gradient presets within the Background menu. First, we must say that the gradient creation panel got a recent update, starting with CSS Hero version 2.21. Target an element for which you want to create a gradient background and head to CSS Properties – Background.
The radial gradient is defined by its center – drag around the white circle to set the orientation for a radial fade. Using this tool, you can create linear and radial background gradients for items as small as buttons or as big as full-width sections of your website. As you can see, there are no fields in CSS Hero to specify multiple colors for the gradient. In that syntax, the first number is the angle – the colors are displayed at 45 degrees.
This roundabout is not as simple and fun as picking colors with a color picker, but it’s still easier than modifying the stylesheets on your own. Older versions of Internet Explorer do not support CSS gradients, so your lovely fade will not show up in them.
While a gradient can add plenty of character to a website all by itself, combining gradients with images and adding some extra effects can look truly impressive. From a practical standpoint, having an extra layer of color improves readability of any text you put on top of an image.
So, just like that, in 3 simple steps, you can have a gorgeous image with a gradient overlay – neither Photoshop nor coding knowledge needed!
CSS Hero is the definitive plugin to customize your WordPress themes with an easy and intuitive WYSIWYG interface. In this quick tip tutorial, we’ll combine two of the freebie assets, a coffee branding mockup and a vector watercolor texture, from Envato Elements. After that, change the Opacity to 70% and the Blend Mode to Darken (you can try different Blend Modes).
Then again using the watercolor brushes paint over the layer using familiar colors of the picture.
Just place your logo and that it you will have a really cool effect and super simple to achieve.
Brushes make it easy to add embellishments to designs, they are easy to use and allow you to quickly scale size and color. This website shares free vintage inspired printables, clipart, ephemera, desktop wallpaper and digital scrapbook images. This library of pre-defined CSS settings has plenty of beautiful gradients you could apply to your backgrounds and buttons.
In the Buttons library, there are also some gradient styles, such as the Solid Button style you can see on the image below. Head over to Background Image and click on the drop-down list arrow to see gradient presets. Once you click on the Gradient button within the Background menu, you can choose the type of the gradient – linear or radial.
The coolest thing is that you can watch the changes on your website live while playing with different colors and directions.
All the following items are the color stops, or Hex codes identifying the different colors this beautiful gradient contains. Simply copy the syntax above in a document where it’s easy to edit it, and paste your own colors and percentages. Plus, you still get to see the changes live on your website and can instantly decide whether you like that gradient, whether you should add more colors to it, or change the angle, and so on.
To avoid displaying an empty space, simply select a background color to render instead of the gradient. While the original photo is beautiful on its own, adding a gradient overlay completely changes its mood, makes it more dreamy, if you will.
This soft animation can look especially captivating when you have several images displayed in a row. In the Hover status, add background image again, add the gradient, and set the Background Blend Mode to overlay. We’ll use some simple photo manipulation techniques to digitally cut away the face and tidy up the edges, then we’ll place a vibrant cosmic space image inside the head and finish it all off with some refinements, lighting effects and a complementary quote to produce a surreal piece of artwork.
Later we’ll add the tree, cloud and lightning and blend them with the rest using adjustment layers, masking and brushes. This is a intermediate level difficulty tutorial and can be a bit tricky to complete, but why not have a try!

By the end of the lesson you’ll be able to create any other kind of pattern in the same style, whether it is a floral seamless pattern or birthday pattern, food wrapping pattern, or anything else.
A drawing tablet isn’t necessary for this tutorial but it can make things go little smoother. Then, you will modify that brush’s settings to stroke and fill some text, style it, and use some filters to create a lace-inspired text effect. Bitbox has some other amazing watercolor brushes as well, so feel free to test different ones as well. That can be used for website headers to create a simply awesome design, and, of course to create posters. Please word your tutorials much clearer in the future, and be much more specific when it comes to layers and such. To convey the right mood, you can go for cool or warm colors, subtle or dramatic color changes, linear or radial gradient – it’s up to you! Because these minimalistic design styles employ few aesthetic elements, both flat and material design use bold colors, including gradients, to enliven a web page and make it memorable. All you need to do is kick your creativity into gear, fire up CSS Hero’s point-and-click interface and play with colors. Then, pick two colors for the gradient with the Color Picker or by pasting color codes in the appropriate windows. To set the orientation for a linear gradient, drag the white inner circle to change the angle of the fade. First of all, there are a few multi-color gradient presets (as we mentioned above, you can access the presets by clicking the drop-down list arrow for Background-image property).
What you may not realize is that many descriptive fields in CSS Hero can take values other than those from the drop-down list.
The percentages behind the color codes specify at which point in the image does the new color start.
We may add the panel for creating multi-color gradients in the future, but for now, you can still create multi-color gradients this way with CSS Hero. Some of them, such as Multiply and Lighten, will also give you the effect of semi-transparent gradient layered on top of the image.
The gradient overlay appearing on hover would provide subtle feedback to the user as he or she hovers over the pictures.
Both newbies and advanced Photoshop users will learn some useful things and tricks from this tutorial.
After that, we’ll paint the rain and raindrops as well as combining the leaves into the scene. Learn how to create a soccer sports event poster in Photoshop using some basic blending techniques. Also you can try different Blend Modes, in this case I used Normal but you can try Multiply as well.
If you click on one of the small white dots around the big circle, the angle will be set to pre-defined values – 0 degrees, 45 degrees, 90 degrees and so on. Which means, you can put your own values in that Background-image field and create original gradients, as long as you follow the same syntax.
If you want the gradient to be equally divided between the colors of your choice, you can simply skip the percentages. Finally, we’ll finish it up with shadows and highlights to make the work look more realistic. The great thing about this tutorial is that you can easily personalize the poster by simply changing the abstract wallpaper image and the football player and the stadium stock images. Repeat this steps with different colors until you achieve something similar like int the picture below.
CSS Hero will do the behind-the-scenes code work and save the changes for you and your website visitors to enjoy.
That way you can create sport poster templates for any event you want like tennis, box, athletics, etc.
