After a lot of speculation and a juicy tidbit here and there, a more complete spec list and first photo of the much-anticipated Canon 5D Mark IV has leaked. Recently I got a message from a person who said that they liked my pictures, but unfortunately they don’t have a "photographic eye." This inspired me to write the following article about basic aesthetics and their relationship to photography. VSCO today announced the launch of its new Open Studio, a free-to-use massive studio space in New York City.
The multi-aperture computational camera is an exciting technology that's emerging in the world of photography, and it appears that Nikon wants in. Nothing can be more frustrating than taking a beautiful photograph only to later find out that it is riddled with digital noise.
If you wanna capture quality product photos on the cheap, this short little DIY tutorial is going to be a great resource.
Want to see how a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer responds to a request for free images in exchange for "credit" from a major news corporation? Yesterday I spent my morning taking some photos in New York City along the Hudson river with my 4x5 camera.

This photo shows what Sports Illustrated photographer Simon Bruty packed for the Rio 2016 Olympic games, the 8th Summer Games he has covered. Lightroom is a very powerful tool, and this quick timelapse by filmmaker and photographer Bart Oerbekke demonstrates how a series of simple edits were able to really bring one of his landscape photos to life. Animals stealing action cameras is nothing new—monkeys, seagulls, and foxes have all gotten their 15 minutes of fame this way. News Corp photographer Brett Costello was robbed of $40,000 in camera gear at a cafe in Rio a few days ago. After showing you how to make a tripod using a piece of string, I’m going to go a little more surreal this time by explaining how an old frying pan can be used to get dramatic low angle images. Former Russian Olympic swimmer Evgeny Korotyshkin usually reserves his Instagram for posting pictures of swimming events or selfies with his medals.
People call these "multiplicity photographs".  When this technique is used in sports, it is known as "sequence photography". Learning the secrets of trick photography and special effects is a great way to take your images to the next level. The use of special effects, such as props, scenery, and scale models, can also create a world in your photos that makes them more than meets the eye.
Highlight your subjects with a wash of color and neon that is more brilliant than any fireworks display. And by tweaking the color settings of your camera, you can choose which hues to make “pop” in your photograph. Or, clone your subject so the same person is pictured multiple times within the same scene.
Learn the perspective tricks that allow you to capture an impossible-looking photograph based on where you stand and how you hold the camera.
Even if you think you’re holding your hands steady, in actuality it’s impossible to get a completely still shot without the help of a tripod. The most important elements for mastering these skills are shutter speed, aperture, and ISO speed. Though most cameras have an automatic shutter setting, switching to manual and learning how to best choose a shutter speed can mean the difference between blurry photographs and gorgeous works of art. Film with a lower ISO speed requires more light exposure to create an image, while “high-speed” film can create a photograph with less light exposure, so it’s good for taking photos in the dark. Whether you view photography solely as a hobby or you’re interested in making into a career, learning photography tricks and becoming skilled and special effects will greatly expand the repertoire of photos you’re able to take. They put every US Geological Survey (USGS) topographical map from across the United States on one easy-to-navigate site and made them easy to print out at home. Louis Post-Dispatch who won the Pulitzer Prize with his paper this year for his coverage of protests in Ferguson, Missouri.
Then yesterday, while covering an event at the Olympics yesterday, Costello spotted the thief pretending to be him. Photographer Aaron Anderson has put together a lighting tutorial that will show you how he uses one light, a black flag, and a white card to capture beautiful, dramatic headshots. But when he was robbed at gunpoint yesterday in Rio, he posted a very different photo: a picture of the gun-wielding teens who allegedly robbed him. If you find this subject interesting, I would reccomend getting my Trick Photography and Special Effects eBook. The person will seem to be erased, but to un-erase it, hit CTRL+I, (cmd+I if you are on a Mac). With the advent of Photoshop, the magic of trick photography and special effects runs the risk of being forgotten.
With a little bit of instruction and a lot of experimentation, you’ll be taking incredible photos using household items and other inexpensive tools. Though it’s important for a photographer to have some type of retouching software, forget spending over $700 for Adobe Photoshop. Obviously, you’ll also need a computer with plenty of storage space to upload, edit, and archive your photos. You can use a quick shutter speed to clearly capture a car in motion, or a longer shutter speed to show it as a blur to indicate motion. This alters the focus of the image you’re taking; a wider aperture works better for portraits and close-up images, while a small aperture is desirable for landscapes and other wide shots. Luckily, programs such as Adobe Lightroom can reduce the amount of noise within a photograph caused by high ISO settings or long exposures. Last Friday, Carson was contacted by what appears to be a CBS account on Twitter that regularly Tweets requests for image usage. I had one sheet of film left, and I noticed that some nice-looking clouds were developing over the Hudson. Focus your scene and then switch to Manual focus so that your camera won't constantly be trying to re-focus the scene. But computer-generated images can never quite compare to the wonder generated by camera tricks.
Most special effects and tweaks can be done using the less expensive Photoshop Elements for just a fraction of the price. As with shutter speed, varying the aperture of your photographs can create interesting effects. You can shoot in any mode you want to, but I would advise against Shutter Priority mode and just take the photos in full Manual mode or Aperture Priority mode. After everything is in focus and you have your shutter speed and aperture set, take a picture of the scene with the model to the left of the frame.
