Compact digital cameras are becoming obsolete as the mirrorless market continues growing and offering customers a wide range of choices for almost any budget.
Although this segment of the market is on decline, companies like Sony, Canon or Nikon have already announced a few bridge and compact camera models on the first day of CES 2014 in Las Vegas. Besides the new entry-level D3300 DSLR and the four new COOLPIX L-series cameras, the Nippon giant has also announced 5 COOLPIX S-series digital cameras (S6800, S6700, S5300, S3600 and S2800) today, which aim the low-end consumer segment. Nikon S6700 features a 20.1MP image sensor and a 25-250mm optical zoom lens that allows you to take superior quality images. COOLPIX S3600 has the same 20.1MP image sensor as the S6700 and benefits from a 8x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that can double its reach using the Dynamic Fine Zoom feature. All the aforementioned cameras come with 4-axis vibration reduction that compensates camera shake and helps you get clear, sharp images in almost any shooting conditions.
As for the S2800, Nikon prepared a 20.1MP CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom lens, a wide variety of picture effects and will probably be the cheapest of them all. The camera inherits many features from the recently released top-of-the-line EOS-1D X, but key among them is the DIGIC 5+ Imaging Processor. The new processor also enables several new features that did not exist in the 5D Mark II, including HDR and Multiple Exposure modes, in-camera RAW processing, a comparative playback function, Scene Intelligent Auto mode, two forms of movie compression, and support for high-speed UDMA 7 Compact Flash memory cards. For still photographers, Canon has included its new 61-point High Density Reticular AF (autofocus) System, introduced this fall in the EOS-1D X.
The camera’s new built-in HDR mode enables users to merge three images at various exposure levels into a single image, in-camera, for enhanced tonal gradation beyond the range of the naked eye. The Mark III offers Multiple Exposure capabilities with the ability to combine up to nine individual images into a single composite image. Another new feature seen for the first time on the 5D Mark III is Comparative Playback, which allows photographers to display two images side by side on the camera’s 3.2-inch LCD screen.
The EOS 5D Mark III offers several new features that have been requested by cinematographers, television production professionals and independent filmmakers – including 720P recording.
Like the EOS-1D X, the 5D Mark III includes two methods of SMPTE-compliant timecode embedding, Rec Run and Free Run, allowing video footage from multiple cameras and separate audio recordings to be synced together in postproduction. The EOS 5D Mark III features a rugged camera body with magnesium alloy body covers and a stainless steel lens mount.
The EOS 5D Mark III features a 3.2-inch Clear View II LCD screen with 1,040,000 dot resolution – another feature inherited from the EOS-1D X.
Canon also announced a variety of new accessories for the camera including, the Canon Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E7A, which connects to the camera’s USB port to deliver wireless LAN access.
With this new WFT model, professionals can synchronize clocks on multiple cameras and use the unit to support linked shooting when utilizing multiple cameras. Canon is also introducing an optional GPS Receiver (GP-E2), which can be connected to the camera via the accessory shoe or a USB cable. In addition, the company is offering a new Battery Grip (BG-E11) for the Mark III that accepts one or two LP-E6 lithium-ion battery packs or a set of six AA-size batteries. In fact Samsung claim that the distance between the lens and the image sensor are reduced by around 60-percent compared to a traditional DSLR using a mirror box.  That sensor is an APS-C sized unit as regularly found in DSLRs, hence the above-point-and-shoot performance.
Samsung's new NX Series bridges the gap between a DSLR and compact point-and-shoot digital camera by combining the benefits of both in one new model. Samsung has recently intensified its focus on the digital imaging market and established a separate company dedicated exclusively to digital imaging in Samsung Digital Imaging Company. Samsung Digital Imaging Company also creates a much more efficient vertical alignment between related Samsung affiliate business units including semiconductor, LCD panel and consumer electronics. Moreover, the camera is capable of capturing 1080i Full HD video footage at 30 frames per second and has a high ISO sensitivity of up to ISO6,400.
Both models come with built-in Wi-Fi that allows you to easily share your pictures and videos on any smart device, as well as control the cameras remotely via smartphone or tablet.

The camera also packs over 50 different special effects that give you the possibility to quickly edit your images as you see fit.
It also incorporates enhanced video features for cinematography, television production and documentary filmmaking, including better noise reduction, longer recording times and a built-in headphone jack for audio monitoring. Adjustable from ISO 100 to 25,600 within its standard range, the new model also offers a low ISO 50 setting for studio and landscape photography and two extended ISO settings of 51,200 and 102,400.
The exposure levels in the camera’s HDR mode can be set to cover a range of up to ±3 stops.
Compositing results can be viewed in real time on the camera’s LCD monitor, and there is a one-step “undo” command that allows photographers to delete an image and try again. The images can be displayed with a histogram to check exposure levels, or magnified to check for focus or facial expressions.
There is also an automatic audio level setting, or sound recording can be turned off entirely.
The new camera also has dust- and moisture-resistant design with improved gaskets and seals. This new grip has a multicontroller and a multifunction (M.Fn) button together a with a full set of grip controls for easy operation when shooting portraits or other vertical format photos. Like conventional DSLRs, the NX Series utilizes an APS-C sized image sensor providing a much larger surface area to gather light and produce higher-quality images than comparable digital camera systems. The new company was formed to focus on the development of its digital still cameras around world's first and best in class features, design, and easy-to-use interfaces, and will work towards achieving the company's stated goal of becoming the world's leading digital imaging company.
This new vertical alignment will create competitive advantages for Samsung by fostering greater collaboration between Samsung affiliate business units and allowing the company to develop and deliver highly-innovative digital imaging products that set the standard for the industry, including the newly unveiled NX Series. The announcement coincides with the 25th anniversary of the launch of Canon’s first EOS system – the EOS 650 SLR, which debuted in March of 1987.
Three recording methods are supported – record the same data to both cards; record different file sizes or types to each card, or automatically switch to the second card when the first card is full. Sound can be recorded either through the internal monaural microphone or via an optional external microphone through the stereo mic input. We asked on Twitter what our followers favorite digital slr camera was and nearly every answer was different, or was a wish for an upgrade to an existing model. A new concept digital camera, the NX Series offers the performance and image quality of a DSLR and the portability and convenience of a compact point-and-shoot. Unlike a DSLR, the NX Series does not feature a mirror box and employs an ultra-precise Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). Users can record video continuously up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds across multiple 4GB files. This is the first EOS Digital SLR camera to feature a built-in headphone jack for real-time audio monitoring during video capture. The EOS 5D Mark III’s newly developed shutter unit has a durability rating of 150,000 exposures, and shutter release lag time has been reduced to 59 milliseconds, making the shutter button more responsive. We can however show a list along with some explanations, that way you can make a more informed decision for buying the best dslr camera (and most affordable) that meets your needs. There are hundreds of dslr cameras on the market, some with very close matches of specification or price. The use of an EVF has allowed Samsung engineers to significantly reduce the size and weight of the new camera system by decreasing the distance between the lens and image sensor (flange back) by approximately 60% compared to traditional DSLRs. The process we used to come up with this list of the best was based on the same process we used to buy our favorite dslr, the Canon 7D. In addition to utilizing the EVF, consumers can also take advantage of the camera's Live View functionality to frame their shots on the NX Series' high-resolution screen. Our criteria for choosing the best dslr camera for your needs is based on price, resolution and speed. Tallying up the scores gave us our results, with the best overall camera listed last. What features were we interested in when considering various models of dslr cameras?

Our review of cameras was assuming that most people reading this article are not professionals but also I not absolute beginners either. We assume that most people looking for a DSLR are likely to use at least some manual settings, but we also appreciate consumer type features such as a built-in flash.
Of course, because we are not targeting high-end professionals with our list of the best dslr cameras, we appreciate lower prices versus high costs (the more affordable the camera the better)! For us, HD video in our DSLR camera was not a huge factor in our decisions though we are certainly happy when a camera has that feature. Why are speed and resolution major factors for our list of the top rated DSLR cameras?
We know some people would argue that your lens and sensor have a bigger impact on the output quality, and the end result is the whole point, right? Well, sure, but I started out in DSLR photography with a Canon 350D and two areas where I felt really limited were the frame rate and the resolution. Canon EOS 1000DThis DSLR camera was launched in 2008 and is aimed squarely at the entry-level market but despite that positioning and age, still packs in some serious features. If price is your main factor then it is well worth looking at, as this is one of the best and affordable DSLR cameras on the market.Click here to buy the Canon EOS 1000D DSLR9. The specs won't set the world alight, especially the low frames per second, but the price is competitive and the resolution is decent at 14 mega pixels. Many people tell me they prefer the ergonomics of this Nikon body, which is worth considering into the equation.Click here to buy the Nikon D3100 DSLR8.
That said, even though the product was last refreshed in 2008, it is a fantastic performer. Full frame sensor is probably the headline feature, giving it extremely good quality in every environment you can throw at it. Resolution-wise you are looking at 21 mega pixels, which is good enough for some excellent prints at large sizes without much post processing.
The full frame and the resolution mean many professional photographers use this as their go-to DSLR camera.
As mentioned earlier, expect this to be rectified soon, in which case it will likely be a dominant player once again.Click here to buy the Canon 5D MkII DSLR7. Unfortunately, while an excellent and popular camera, the newer Canon 60D beats it in all departments in terms of specs.
Still, Nikon fans will tell you it works and feels better in actual use, and it is a good choice if you already have a Nikon lens collection.Click here to buy the Nikon D90 DSLR6.
Nikon D3XIf you are looking for a pro level DSLR camera then you are going to be heading up the price scale but also getting better performance for your money (and usually build quality).
Obviously it will price out all but a minority of camera buyers but the image quality served up by its superior innards and 24 mega pixel sensor are very impressive. Canon Rebel T3i Another entry-level DSLR camera, the Canon Rebel series has historically been the sweet spot between amateur price but respectable specs. This brand new refresh is the only 2011 camera on the list and packs 18 mega pixel resolution for a low price, potentially below $800 if you spot a deal!
Canon 7DIt has to be said, the Canon 7D won out among our top ranked DSLR cameras but not by a huge margin. The faster frames per second helped, plus the build quality and hand feel (many Nikon owners would disagree there). Yes, you might be able to get a good deal, seeing as it is already being seen as an older model. If you are anything like me though you will love the results.Click here to buy the Canon 7D DSLRSummaryThe best DSLR cameras is the kind of subject that naturally leads to discussion, arguments, and a lot of subjective personal taste, so let me pre-empt the flames by saying this is MY list of the best DSLRs.
