For the past two or three years, my favorite point-and-shoot cameras have been what I call “pocket superzooms” (Pocket Superzoom Camera Guide) because they have long zooms and they fit in my pocket. Some other cool features you’ll find in the Panasonic Lumix LF1 are a built-in electronic level, full HD video with built-in stereo mic, a customizable control ring around the lens, 10 frames per second full-resolution burst, a built-in Composition Guide, and built-in filter effects. Panasonic has introduced a new compact system camera which sits in between the GX(single digit) and the GF ranges in terms of who it is aimed at. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX80 features a 16 million pixel sensor and a Venus Engine was has been tweaked to work specifically in this camera. As with several other Lumix cameras recently released, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX80 features the ability to record 4K video which also facilitates 4K photo modes. A brand new shutter unit has been designed to minimise slight vibrations and shutter sound when pressing the shutter button. Other features include a LVF (Live Viewfinder) with 2764k-dot equivalent resolution and a 3.0-inch, approx 1040k-dot resolution touch sensitive monitor which tilts 80 degrees upwards and 45-degrees downwards.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX80 has been designed as an alternative for the GX8, being cheaper and slightly lower specced in some respects.
On the top of the camera is a mode dial which allows you to quickly choose a shooting mode, such as aperture priority, fully automatic, scene mode and so on. Panasonic views this camera as being for photographers who are not quite as advanced as GX8 users, so it’s not too much of a surprise to see a dial like this missing. Similarly, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GX80’s back screen only tilts, rather than being fully articulating. There’s also another more extensive menu if you need to make other changes, such as to the date and time, or change the function of buttons.
Dedicated function buttons are available for these 4K modes, but again, you can switch these to another function if you’re not using the 4K modes all that often. Hidden away a little more, there’s also Light Composition, which gives you the opportunity to combine several frames into one final image, giving priority to specific pixels based on their brightness. We’ll be updating this review as soon as a full sample becomes available, but we can already make some pleasing assumptions about this camera. When the GX8 was announced, many people missed the smaller body size of the GX7 so its nice to see Panasonic bringing that kind of style back for its new addition.
We’ll be updating this review with more information as soon as a full production sample of the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GX80 is available. While the rumor surely seems noteworthy, it’s a very tall claim to state that the lens will be one of the best kits made. Even more interesting is the fact that Sony always seems to develop even smaller cameras than the Micro Four Thirds group can and they have a larger sensor.
Lenovo released two teaser images of the Vibe Z3 Pro, from which we can see that the company is targeting the niche crowds who are in love with smartphone photography. From the press images, we can tell that Lenovo is aiming to create a versatile smartphone that can be maneuvered easily, which means that you easily switch from smartphone format to a small, handheld compact camera format, as seen in the photos. We do know for sure that the company decided to slap a 16 MP camera on the rear of the device, which will act as a powerful camera, improved with high-end software.
Even though the Chinese company hasn’t released any official information about release date, pricing and availability, we think it is safe to assume that the Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro will show up at the Mobile World Congress in March.

They have smaller sensors than high-end compacts, but for me trading a bit of image quality for a 15-20x zoom lens is totally worth it. Since it’s a serious camera, it also has PASM manual shooting modes to give experienced photographers complete control.

But the LF1 is available for pre-order on the B&H Web site for US $499 with an expected ship date in late June. For the first time in a G series camera, the optical low pass filter has been removed which boosts the sensor’s capability to record fine detail. This means that you can use the mechanical shutter in situations where you might have only been able to use the electronic shutter before. On the front of the camera is a grip to help your finger rest nicely and give good purchase. In a difference from the GX8 however, there’s no exposure compensation dial for quickly making such a change. Around the shutter release is a dial which will allow you to alter aperture or shutter speed (depending on the shooting mode you’re in). While this makes it not quite as pleasant to use, it does help save on space (and cost) and becomes something you’ll perhaps use only for shots in bright sunlight, rather than every shot. That makes the GX8 perhaps a little more suited to video shooting (and selfies), but a tilting screen is still useful for a number of different awkward angles. As always, there are a number of function buttons (four in this case) that can be customised to work in different ways depending on your preference but which have a default function already. This will bring up most of the key settings that you’re likely want to change shot to shot, such as white balance, ISO, Picture Style and so on. There’s 4K Burst, which will keep shooting at 30fps so long as you have the shutter release held down. However, with different price points and different intended audiences, there is room for all three to co-exist right now. A report on 43Rumors states that Panasonic will soon be releasing the GM1–which is supposed to be the smallest Micro Four Thirds Camera ever. Additionally, smaller isn’t always better when it comes to interchangeable lens cameras. Lenovo was a pretty big presence at CES 2015, where the company launched a handful of new laptops, including the Lenovo LaVie and Flex series.
With that in mind, Lenovo is essentially going to rival the Lumix CM1 and Asus ZenFone Zoom, two of the most recent camera-centered smartphones on the international market.
Next to the sensor, the Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro has a 3x LED flash and is equipped with optical image stabilization, which should make for a very neat camera setup.
We are truly excited about this phone, especially about the pricing Lenovo will choose for it. Until now, the longest zoom you could get in a pocket-sized high-end camera was 5x – and most of them are closer to 3x. He's an avid outdoor enthusiast and spends as much time as possible on his mountain bike, hiking or skiing in the mountains. Where your thumb sits on the rear of the camera is also textured, preventing your thumb from slipping onto the screen when holding the camera. There’s a secondary small dial on the back of the camera which can also be used for a similar function - you can set up how these dials work in the main menu. That said, the view inside it is bright and clear, if a little more cramped than perhaps we’d generally like. As we’ve come to expect from Panasonic G series cameras, it is touch sensitive and very responsive.
For instance, one near the viewfinder controls the viewfinder function, while another near the navigational pad switches on Post Focus shooting.
You can either use the touchscreen to navigate around this menu, or the directional keys on the back of the camera. One of these is Post Focus, which allows you to take a series of photos all with a different focus point, and then choose your preferred one after you’ve captured the shot.
But even more interesting is the also rumored 12-32mm pancake zoom lens that is said to come with it.

The newest addition to its smartphone portfolio is the Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro, which is a truly stylish smartphone that centers around the function the camera has and the design that surrounds it. Lumia phones are usually the best when it comes to camera performance, but their design is usually flawed by protruding cameras and awkwardly placed sensor. The design of the phone is also very appealing and makes me think of high-end compact cameras, to be fair. Namely, a 5 inch display with a 1080*1920 resolution, which is a bit odd for a futuristic camera phone, but we like the proposition as it would conserve some precious battery life.
We’re looking forward to the MWC as it is shaping up to be one of the most notable trade shows of the past few years. The Panasonic Lumix LF1 is the first pocket-sized, large sensor (large compared to most point-and-shoots) camera that has what I consider a reasonable zoom range. You can use the touchscreen while using the viewfinder to set the autofocus point, which is an innovation other manufacturers are now starting to copy because it is so useful. If you decide you’d prefer something else to be more easily accessible, you simply change their function in the main menu. This can be more useful for some subjects than others, for example with Macro it’s a great idea.
Which mode you use will be dependent on the shooting situation - after you’ve recorded, you can simply play back the frames on the camera and choose the one you want to extract.
Apparently, it will yield some of the best image quality that a kit lens can possibly offer.
Even though the form factor is rather odd, we can’t deny that the phone itself looks absolutely amazing.
Under the hood, Lenovo will most likely place a Snapdragon 615 CPU, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, backed by a microSD card slot if that’s not enough. It’s also the first pocket camera in a very long time to have an eye-level viewfinder instead of just an LCD display. It will be extracted at 8 million pixels, rather than the full 16 the sensor offers, but that’s still enough to print at A3 size. Most likely, Lenovo will endow this phone with the latest software from Google, namely Android 5.0 Lollipop. I'm passionate about Android and I'm all in for Google, but I don't stray from Apple nor Windows, so I'll keep you up to date on everything mobile (or stationary).
4G LTE should be part of most phones launched in 2015, so we’re expecting that to show up on the Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro, too. What makes it different from the Panasonic LX7 and most other high-end compacts is it has a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF), a long 7.1x 28-200mm zoom range, built-in Wi-Fi, and it’s totally pocketable.
They make a real difference when you’re panning, recording video, or shooting at slow shutter speeds in low light.
For the past couple of years I’ve been using an Eye-Fi card in my point-and-shoot so I can take better quality photos but still share them from the field with my phone.
Cameras with built-in Wi-Fi give you the same functionality but simplify the pairing and transfer process. The Panasonic LF1 makes it even easier with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, which allows you to just touch the camera to a compatible device to share a photo or video. Another great new option is the ability to use your Smart Phone or tablet as a remote control – complete with remote monitor.
