A cost effective head cam system that utilises your own cameraYour Camera + Bakhu = The Ultimate Head Cam. A few years ago Sarah Braithwaite, an avid horse rider from North Wales, wanted to capture point of view video and share her riding exploits with her friends via social media.  She also wanted to do this hands-free but found her only option was in spending hundreds of pounds on a bespoke helmet or headcam which were expensive and gave varying results. Sarah already had a good quality compact digital camera, capable of HD movie capture, so was there a way that she could mount this to her riding helmet, simply and cheaply and create an instant helmet cam?
Armed with some 3” elastic, a pair of scissors and a sewing machine, she began to stitch a sleeve and a strap which became the first Bakhu head cam prototype! The next day she showed her husband, a PhD chemist and entrepreneur who immediately saw the potential and immediately looked at patent protection. The product was subsequently tested in a variety of sports including, horseriding, mountain-biking, skateboarding and skiing. The question was, could such a head strap be developed into a versatile device, capable of accommodating most compact digital cameras ? The team recognized that most cameras have their lens in two positions and by having a rotating sleeve would accommodate the vast majority of compact cameras on the market at the time.  Different sized foam wedges were developed to ensure the camera could be vertically aligned for use with helmets or simply on to the head.
The Triggertrap Mobile Dongle is a camera triggering accessory that, when paired with your smartphone, allows you to trigger your camera in fun, exciting and unique ways. The device is very small and relatively inexpensive, making it a practical investment that will find a permanent home in your camera bag.
When Triggertrap offered to send me their Mobile Dongle for review, I gladly accepted (it was an item I had been considering for purchase for quite some time). The Triggertrap Mobile Dongle consists of a dongle that connects to your smartphone and a cable that connects the dongle to your camera. Once connected, you can use the free Triggertrap Mobile App (for iOS and Android) to control how your camera is triggered. Before we dig deeper into the Timelapse Modes, now would be a good time to mention a few things about the Triggertrap app.
My first issue with the application is how it fails to utilize the standard Android back button. My second issue with the application is how it handles text input for changing numeric variables.
While the feature is extremely useful, there's nothing particularly special about this implementation as it triggers your camera just as any intervalometer would. In TimeWarp mode, the Triggertrap dongle varies the time in between shots based upon your preferences. I decided to try and simulate the opening sequence of a film using the Triggertrap's TimeWarp feature.
When rolling clouds blanketed my hometown, I decided to feature a local historic landmark in my fictional movie introduction. On my first attempt at capturing the TimeWarp time lapse, I did experience an issue that caused Triggertrap to stop triggering the camera. I had a bluetooth headset connected to my phone at the time so I could hear any notifications from the phone while the time lapse was underway.
However, when I received the incoming call, I tried to answer the call using my Bluetooth headset. Unfortunately, as the phone had a cable plugged into the 3.5mm headphone port, audio was being routed through the headphone port instead of my wireless headset. The worst part is that every time a call came through to my phone (answered or unanswered), Triggertrap would stop triggering the camera until the call stopped. After that I tried capturing a TimeWarp time lapse for a second time and came away with the images I had intended on getting in the first place. The end result is a little cheesy and the randomness of the clouds makes the effect less obvious, but I think you can see the potential this effect has to add value to your video productions. I contacted Triggertrap to ask them if the interval shooting pause I experienced while receiving a phone call was normal. Another unique and valuable aspect of the Triggertrap Mobile Dongle is the ability to trigger your camera based on distance traveled. Considering all the triggering modes that the Triggertrap Mobile Dongle is capable of, I have only begun to scratch the surface.
I had intended on capturing a star trails and bulb ramping example to accompany this review. Unfortunately, optimal weather conditions and my own availability seem to have been mutually exclusive over the past few months. If I should complete these in the not-so-distant future, I will update this review to include the samples and workflow used to create the images.

With smartphones already a prevalent part of our daily lives, it makes sense to utilize these micro-computers as smart triggering devices for your camera. The Triggertrap Mobile Dongle and specially designed app allow you to easily create time lapses and images that would be very difficult (or more costly) to create otherwise. The Triggertrap app may leave a little to be desired (Bryan really likes it), but the Triggertrap Mobile Dongle has been in my kit for the better part of a year and it will continue to go with me whenever my camera bag leaves the house.
It's a cost-effective, easy to pack, valuable and versatile tool that has earned a place in my permanent kit.
Please support this site and my family by using the links provided throughout the site to make your purchases. Traditionally, sports enthusiasts and videophiles have captured such action by carrying a camcorder – witness the father attempting to ski backwards whilst trying to capture video of his child!  Camcorders are unbalanced contraptions; cumbersome, expensive, and difficult to operate hands-free.
Inexpensive to appeal to the wider audience who were not going to spend large amounts of money on bespoke action video head-cameras. As the cable that connects to your camera is interchangeable, the Triggertrap dongle can be used with a wide range of cameras (assuming you purchase the corresponding cables). First, keep in mind that my experience with the Triggertrap app is limited to the Android version loaded onto a Samsung Galaxy S4. For instance, once I choose a triggering method, the triggering method menu disappears and the variables for that triggering method are displayed along with a big red button.
They assured me it normal and advised me to set the phone to Airplane mode while using Triggertrap.
Thus, I depend solely on the commissions received from you using the links on this site to make any purchase. An important thing to note is that your phone's volume needs to be set to its maximum level in order for the Triggertrap Mobile Dongle to trigger your camera. In my opinion, pressing the back button should revert to the previous state of the program where I can choose a different triggering method. Instead, if you want to change an interval from 5 seconds to 6 seconds, you must first press your finger on the value you want to change which brings up the number input box, press the backspace button three times (as Triggertrap intervals can be set in hundredths of a second) then type in "6-0-0".
That is a simple and effective solution for sure, but it does reduce the functionality of your communications device when Triggertrap is in use.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a good opportunity to use Triggertrap on my most recent trips (the cars were packed too full to include a tripod-mounted camera), but I did try the feature out by driving to the next interstate exit west of my hometown and then back via an alternate route. But personally, I found the Triggertrap app for Android to be quite frustrating to use because of two key user interface issues. Instead, pressing the back button simply exits the program (it has the very same effect as pressing the Home button). That means the Triggertrap Mobile app requires six button presses to change your interval by 1 second, which seems a bit inconvenient to me. The camera was mounted on a tripod in the passenger's seat and Triggertrap performed exactly as expected.
For someone who's accustomed to using the back button to navigate through different stages of their Android applications, this app's behavior can be maddening for the user.

Eventually, such 'subvocal speech' systems could be used in spacesuits, in noisy places like airport towers to capture air-traffic controller commands, or even in traditional voice-recognition programs to increase accuracy, according to NASA scientists."What is analyzed is silent, or sub auditory, speech, such as when a person silently reads or talks to himself," said Chuck Jorgensen, a scientist whose team is developing silent, subvocal speech recognition at NASA Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley.
We numbered the columns and rows, and we could identify each letter with a pair of single-digit numbers," Jorgensen said.
People in noisy conditions could use the system when privacy is needed, such as during telephone conversations on buses or trains, according to scientists."An expanded muscle-control system could help injured astronauts control machines.
If an astronaut is suffering from muscle weakness due to a long stint in microgravity, the astronaut could send signals to software that would assist with landings on Mars or the Earth, for example," Jorgensen explained. These are processed to remove noise, and then we process them to see useful parts of the signals to show one word from another," Jorgensen said. After the signals are amplified, computer software 'reads' the signals to recognize each word and sound.

Our Research and Development Division has been in contact with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the California Department of Corrections, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Massachusetts Department of Correction to run limited trials of the 2020 neural chip implant. We have established representatives of our interests in both management and institutional level positions within these departments. Federal regulations do not yet permit testing of implants on prisoners, but we have entered nto contractual agreements with privatized health care professionals and specified correctional personnel to do limited testing of our products.
We need, however, to expand our testing to research how effective the 2020 neural chip implant performs in those identified as the most aggressive in our society. In California, several prisoners were identified as members of the security threat group, EME, or Mexican Mafia. They were brought to the health services unit at Pelican Bay and tranquilized with advanced sedatives developed by our Cambridge,Massachussetts laboratories. The results of implants on 8 prisoners yielded the following results: a€?Implants served as surveillance monitoring device for threat group activity. However, during that period substantial data was gathered by our research and development team which suggests that the implants exceed expected results.
One of the major concerns of Security and the R & D team was that the test subject would discover the chemial imbalance during the initial adjustment period and the test would have to be scurbbed. However, due to advanced technological developments in the sedatives administered, the 48 hour adjustment period can be attributed t prescription medication given to the test subjects after the implant procedure.
One of the concerns raised by R & D was the cause of the bleeding and how to eliminate that problem.
Unexplained bleeding might cause the subject to inquire further about his "routine" visit to the infirmary or health care facility. Security officials now know several strategies employed by the EME that facilitate the transmission of illegal drugs and weapons into their correctional facilities. One intelligence officier remarked that while they cannot use the informaiton that have in a court of law that they now know who to watch and what outside "connections" they have.
The prison at Soledad is now considering transferring three subjects to Vacaville wher we have ongoing implant reserach.
Our technicians have promised that they can do three 2020 neural chip implants in less than an hour. Soledad officials hope to collect information from the trio to bring a 14 month investigation into drug trafficking by correctional officers to a close. Essentially, the implants make the unsuspecting prisoner a walking-talking recorder of every event he comes into contact with. There are only five intelligence officers and the Commisoner of Corrections who actually know the full scope of the implant testing. In Massachusetts, the Department of Corrections has already entered into high level discussion about releasing certain offenders to the community with the 2020 neural chip implants. Our people are not altogether against the idea, however, attorneys for Intelli-Connection have advised against implant technology outside strick control settings. While we have a strong lobby in the Congress and various state legislatures favoring our product, we must proceed with the utmost caution on uncontrolled use of the 2020 neural chip.
If the chip were discovered in use not authorized by law and the procedure traced to us we could not endure for long the resulting publicity and liability payments. Massachusetts officials have developed an intelligence branch from their Fugitive Task Force Squad that would do limited test runs under tight controls with the pre-release subjects.
Correctons officials have dubbed these poetnetial test subjects "the insurance group." (the name derives from the concept that the 2020 implant insures compliance with the law and allows officials to detect misconduct or violations without question) A retired police detective from Charlestown, Massachusetts, now with the intelligence unit has asked us to consider using the 2020 neural chip on hard core felons suspected of bank and armored car robbery.
He stated, "Charlestown would never be the same, we'd finally know what was happening before they knew what was happening." We will continue to explore community uses of the 2020 chip, but our company rep will be attached to all law enforcement operations with an extraction crrew that can be on-site in 2 hours from anywhere at anytime. We have an Intelli-Connection discussion group who is meeting with the Director of Security at Florence, Colorado's federal super maximum security unit.
The initial discussions with the Director have been promising and we hope to have an R & D unit at this important facilitly within the next six months. Napolitano insisted that the department was not planning on engaging in any form of ideological profiling. I will tell him face-to-face that we honor veterans at DHS and employ thousands across the department, up to and including the Deputy Secretary," Ms.
Steve Buyer of Indiana, the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, called it "inconceivable" that the Obama administration would categorize veterans as a potential threat.
