Our ProgramHumber’s Food and Nutrition Management diploma program prepares you for an entry-level managerial role that combines the dynamic world of food service with the expanding world of health care. Our faculty has extensive industry experience and will instruct you in courses covering clinical and community nutrition, physiology, foodservice management and administration, and cooking skills with application. You will have the opportunity to join student branches of the Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals (CAFP) and the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM). Our program is especially recommended for those just starting out or those currently working in the foodservice or health-care industries and those with a background in culinary arts or hospitality.
Nutrition and food management is a $115 billion global industry and growing, according to Nutrition Business Journal. Humber’s Food and Nutrition Management program is accredited by the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM).

Qualified students in this program are eligible to undertake one of the short duration experiential learning opportunities, which operate annually in May and are 10 to 20 days in length. Among the seven on-campus kitchen labs are the award-winning Compass Group Canada culinary demonstration theatre and kitchen lab, and the Garland and Mandarin induction cooking labs. Work placements are a valuable way to gain experience in the field, build contacts and potentially get hired before graduating, and you’ll complete a six-week full-time placement in the health-care foodservice industry. Work placements take place at the end of the fourth semester and include long-term care facilities, hospitals, institutions, food suppliers, foodservice outlets, manufacturers and education facilities.
Note: A police record check, respiratory mask fitting, and up-to-date immunization is required prior to working in field placements. Practical lab classes have strict uniform and attendance standards and policies, which are mandatory for successful completion of these key courses. This is an ideal program if you love food, have a keen interest in the science of nutrition and enjoy managing people in a fast-paced environment.

As student members, you will build on your networking skills in the foodservice and hospitality sector and have the opportunity to apply to association-sponsored bursaries and scholarships. You’ll be in one of these labs for classes in introductory culinary skills, institutional food production and techniques of healthy cooking courses. CSNM membership is a requirement to work as a food and nutrition manager (FNM) by Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care for long-term care and most acute-care facilities.
