When we think of college students and nutrition, the well-known “Freshman 15” comes to mind. The problem with weight gain extends beyond the J Crew wardrobe getting a bit snug.  Independent adult eating habits are being established at this time and the choices that are made at the age of eighteen set the stage for future weight management.


The Brooklands College Student Involvement team held a ‘Be Healthy Event’ at the Weybridge Campus last week. The college Student Union Team ran a Wii Fit challenge, getting many students involved, plus there were some very popular Zumba dance taster sessions.  Students and staff at Brooklands College now have no excuse for being couch potatoes! Whilst Dom D’Mello, one of the college’s sport lecturers, provided fitness testing which included a rowing challenge. There was a nutritional information stand provided by Health and Social Care students and their tutor Sarah McKeever.
