Golden Princess is a large ship, carrying 2590 passengers and 1116 crew, and sails from Auckland, New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia.
The cruise departed from San Francisco, our home and so it was very convenient to get to the port.
I went on the cruise with family and friends and I'm really happy I choose Princess Cruises. Discover a relaxed, rejuvenating retreat at sea onboard Golden Princess, a brilliant ray of sunshine in any destination!

As the second installment in what came to be known as the Grand Class, the 109,000-gross-ton Golden Princess shared with its sisters an impressive list of seagoing achievements, including the first swim-against-the-tide lap pool at sea, the largest casino afloat, the first wedding chapel at sea, and more private balconies than any other ship at the time.
But as noteworthy as the Golden Princess was, it actually was part of a much larger family tree that included three sisters of the same tonnage and four smaller sisters that together composed the Sun Class. One of the most distinct features of the Golden Princess and her sisters was the disco in the skya€”a unique structure high above the stern that some observers likened to a shopping cart handle.
Another innovative aspect of the Golden Princess design was its three dining rooms instead of a single cavernous one, that come in handy for the linea€™s Personal Choice Dining Program, which allows passengers to choose from Traditional Dining with early and late seatings for dinner or Anytime Dining. The designers of the Golden Princess wanted private verandahs to be available to virtually everyone, and this ship has more than 700 cabins with balconies, ranging from standard outside cabins to mini-suites and full suites.

In keeping with the a€?Big Ship Choice, Small Ship Feela€? mantra of these ships, there are a number of nooks and crannies for a little peace and quite, including a small library, writing room, and a card room. Princess Cruises introduced the concept of affordable private balconies on modern cruise ships. Ultimate Balcony Dining features fresh flowers, champagne and a deluxe four-course meal featuring delicate sweet lobster tail or juicy steak among many available delicacies. The service was really good (the room was cleaned 2-3 times a day!!!), there was always something going on with entertainment crew, so there was no time to get bored (I took couple books with me and didn't have much time to read them). Enjoy a calming massage or mud bath at the Lotus Spa®, wander through the Italian-inspired Piazza, or choose from a variety of dining options including Sabatini's and Crown Grill specialty restaurants, Vines, and the poolside pizzeria. Its influence was felt far beyond even those original seven ships, however; even the most recent offerings from Princess right up to the Ruby Princess are generally based on the blueprint of the Grand Class. The shipa€™s 24-hour casual restaurant offers a buffet alternative for breakfast and lunch; at night it becomes a sit-down bistro on one side and the Sterling Steakhouse on the other. The mini-suites are among the largest of its kind, featuring a full sitting area with a large sofa, a comfortable chair, and a second TV. Kids, on the other hand, will find plenty of spaces just for them on this truly groundbreaking ship. The ship rivals the most luxurious resorts, with features such as the Lotus Spa, Movies Under the Stars®, more than 700 balcony cabins and an entire deck of Mini Suites, plus dozens of dining and entertainment options.
For longer cruises the Mini Suites are an even better option, with a separate sitting area, walk-in closet, and bathtub. Complete your unforgettable cruise experience with exciting onboard entertainment including street performances, theatrical productions, and Movies Under the Stars.

Sabatinia€™sa€”another Golden Princess trademarka€”is the shipa€™s venue for upscale Italian fare, and has established itself over the years as one of cruisinga€™s more popular alternative restaurant concepts. Amenties in all cabins include luxury bedding, refrigerator, extensive satellite TV programming, and complimentary room service. There are only so may bingo, what is this, guess what movie this is from activities that you want to do in a 10 day period.
The design means the balcony above doesna€™t block the sun, but it also does not offer much in the way of privacy. We enjoyed all the excursions at the different ports and felt we had enough time after for shopping also.
After getting his license the skipper of the boat said they could only keep one and it had to be under so many inches or bigger than so many inches. One of the people on the boat caught a big one that my husband guessed to be 280 pounds was let loose.
