So what is it: The Paleolithic style of eating is based on the foods that our ancestors, hunters and gatherers, used to ingest before the introduction of agriculture (10,000 years ago). The Paleo Diet, shorthand for the Paleolithic Diet, is also known as the Caveman and Hunter-Gatherer Diet –appropriate names, as the diet seeks to imitate the diet people who lived during the Paleolithic Era – 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago – once had.
Because there were no agricultural systems before ten thousand years ago, starchy vegetables, dairy products, grains, legumes, are excluded from the diet. Supporters of the Paleo Diet believe that modern civilization’s current diet, which is mostly a product of agriculture and the industrial revolution, has caused a lot of diseases, as the human body is maladapted to it. I had already lost 35lbs with relatively clean diet and exercise but needed a change to overcome plateau. I do know that this article is not correct in saying that it is a high fat and low carb diet. There are lots of natural carbs in fruits and veg and those are not limited like they are on the Atkins diet.


Unfortunately, it’s not always for the better, as there have been a lot of illnesses that became more prevalent as the world’s diet evolved to become what it is now. Also, there should be much consumption of non-starchy vegetables and fruits, as they not only provide, but also 35-45% of the daily calories for this kind of diet. This is because human physiology has hardly changed in the last ten thousand years, and therefore is still designed for the same diet, which is reliant on whatever it can hunt or gather nearby. First off, studies have shown that our body has sufficiently evolved to become flexible with our diets.
The Paleo diet believes in the methodology that if a caveman couldn’t eat it, neither can you.
And because the Paleolithic people eat what they’re supposed to be eating, they do not develop the medical conditions we have today.
