In short, when I was 17, I endured severe head trauma and woke up from a coma with brain damage.
In February of 2000, friends from my senior class and I were decorating the hayloft in the barn on my parents’ property.
When I miraculously woke up from my coma just a day later I had no short-term memory, no concept of time, and no sense of direction. Even though I chose nutrition and fitness as a career for myself, I haven’t always looked the way I do now.
I was so over the ups-and-downs of crash diets because they don’t solve anything long-term. I soon realized that my doctors back home didn’t teach me anything that would assist me in needing less medication.  They weren’t helping me pursue the path of innate wellness, and I knew that I had to immerse myself in cutting-edge information if I wanted to change my health.
My mental focus, passion for my career, drive to stay committed to my own workouts, and zest for life started to disappear.
It was in that moment that we crafted the idea for my 90 Day Mission of eating Paleo and moving my body every single day. Taking pictures on Day 1 was excruciating, but it helped me see what I’d created in my body and life. This transformation is incredible, it takes a lot to step back and be critical, especially when you are in the public limelight and people expect you to be and act a certain way, just shows that getting stuck can happen to us all, but like you say its how you react and view what many see as the impossible! Saw this link through my Friend’s Facebook who found this on Pinterest and we all agree, that the after photo of her side has definitely been altered. Paleo may cause weight loss if you were eating a lot of rubbish before, but I was not, so it did the opposite for me.
TweetThere’s nothing that makes me happier than seeing testimonials from friends and family members who have dramatically improved their lives by applying the diet and lifestyle principles we talk about here on Living Superhuman.  Today we have a good one from one of my friends from college, CJ Horvath. After my accident, I really took advantage of living that “college” lifestyle, with weekly orders of Ale House chicken nachos, Round Table shuffle board and beers, and of course countless pitchers and wings at the infamous Billy’s.  Little did I realize that all of this was going to catch up to me, and affect me for the worst.
I first heard about the paleo diet and LivВing SuperВhuВman on FaceВbook, seeВing that I was friends with Andrew and Tony on the social netВwork.В  I was immeВdiВately interВested, not only for myself, but to supВport friends in their venВture to help othВers. The Bulletproof Diet: How to Upgrade Paleo and Eat More Chocolate, Butter, and Coffee Everyday! The journey has been blessed with amazing clients and introduced me to like-minded individuals who are also on a Mission to impact the world.
I was coincidentally diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes while in the ICU and had to relearn how to do simple things that most of us take for granted.
My once-extensive vocabulary and passion for creative writing were now functioning at the level of a 5 year old. All of this shot-taking, finger-pricking, and insulin-bag-carrying wasn’t all that exciting to me. I have to go on a diet!” I said it with conviction and intention, but I did not feel empowered.

I walked everywhere, ate fresh veggies and fruits everyday, consumed meat and fish like they were going out of style, and went dancing a few nights every week. After a couple years of building up a loyal following, I took the brave leap away from working for anyone else and I founded I’m On A Mission.
The fuel to my vehicle was Self Love, and for me that meant getting adequate sleep, eating nourishing food, and exercising efficiently.
Since I was with myself every single second of each and everyday, I wasn’t sure if I was seeing results or not. Squatchy) is a paleo aficionado, educator, personal trainer, wellness coach, and hobbyist chef. I too am a personal trainer and a wellness coach and find it so much easier to help other people reach their goals instead of pushing myself to reach mine.
My own family has been doing Palio for the past two years and we all love it even though it’s hard for me personally to do it all the time. As a vegan and grain-eating fit slim person all my life, I started to eat paleo a year ago and have gained 10kg and am no longer slim around my waist. I exercise a lot (martial arts 2x a week, rock climbing 2x a week, yoga every morning and weight training 2x a week, don’t drive at all and walk or roller blade everywhere).
So now I will be getting back to my more alkaline ways and will report back in a few months. I have a friend that is a couple weeks into paleo and it definitely has me thinking about getting started. I’m also a Type 1, and know the struggles of insulin balance and staying lean and mean!! My spouse and i have usually observed that almost all people are wanting to lose weight when they wish to show up slim along with attractive. I occaВsionВally preВpared paleo meals, and tried stickВing to a workВout rouВtine, but I found myself cheatВing more times a week than eatВing right.В  When sumВmer arrived, I was ready to hit the 50 day chalВlenge, only to be interВrupted with a cruise and trip to Chicago, and anyВone who has been to either knows that food is endВless on the cruise, and Chicago has some great homeВtown favorites in which I couldn’t passВ up. Some people have called me a trainer extraordinaire, others have called me a lifestyle expert, and still others have labeled me as a professional foodie.
Trying toВ put my thoughts into words andВ communicate with anyone made me feel like I was playing chess against Bobby Fischer.
I gained 30 pounds after my diagnosis because the doctors told me to take more insulin than I really needed.
I was frustrated and felt like I had no choice but to deprive myself of everything and anything that tasted like heaven.
I think I tried 5 other gimmicky diets, all which helped me lose weight only to gain it back, before I finally decided to major in Nutrition in college.
The weight came off gradually, my blood sugar normalized, and I naturally took less and less insulin.
I became less and less interested in cooking and ate things that were marketed as “healthy,” but were pre-made and convenient.

The purpose was to be real with my friends and family, followers and fans, and most importantly – myself. We have also had people get off of multiple medications after getting active and eating better than they have.
That created a sensation that might be mistaken for anger, but I knew it as an inspirational fire inside me that instead fueled my desire to cross the finish line and make a full recovery. I realized how important it is to MOVE my body everyday and eat food in its most natural state. Things like corn, soy, dairy, gluten, sugar and vegetable oils were present in my diet almost everyday.
It dawned on me that maybe these pictures would light a fire for some people and motivate them to finally make some changes. It makes such a difference and is the first step in improving your own life and then the ones around. As a certified Holistic Lifestyle Expert, celebrity trainer and fitness personality, I’m a woman of many hats. With extensive cognitive therapy, patience and daily positive affirmations I graduated on time. With my celebrity clients, press features, fitness DVD releases, company expansion, TV show appearances, hundreds of emails every week, and social media popularity – I had been running on overdrive and getting about 5-6 hours of sleep almost every night. I knew better, and I told everyone else to avoid this stuff, but I was too addicted and unmotivated to do anything about it. Paleo has just increased my caloric intake because I never ate much fat before and lived largely on fruit and vegetables, albeit with grains. The great news is that people that are overweight and also suffering from a variety of diseases can reduce the severity of their particular illnesses by losing weight. I was not coming from a place of absolute truth and I wasn’t feeling like the leader I was meant to be. Needless to say, I’m thriving on all levels and have no desire to fall back into my old ways. On the 21st day, I felt like I was glowing and, that day, five different people asked me what I’d been doing differently. After the 28th day, I was clearly over the hump and not craving my drugs (coffee and sugar) anymore. My Mission continues, and will continue, until I find a way to get off synthetic insulin; and then I’ll keep going some more. Back to fruit and veg with just a little lean animal protein here and there like our ancesters did (according to the best scientific data I have found), no grains and no dairy.
