For some reason, the cookbook Nom Nom Paleo: Food for Humans transports me back to my childhood love for books. Nom Nom Paleo: Food for Humans is a hefty hardcover book and every detail was clearly thought of in its creation. One of my pet peeves with cookbooks is when they don’t include a photo for each recipe.
The Paleo diet is one of the most-popular approaches for weight management these days, but this cartoon-filled cookbook shows it doesn't have to be dull or short on flavor. I went for an Asian theme in the dishes I chose to serve for dinner, though her book is not solely an Asian cookbook. For anyone who thinks paleo is boring, either in flavor or in philosophy, then you should peruse this book because it is anything but boring. After graduating from the University of Southern California with an MFA in Cinema-Television Production, Becca worked as a music editor for film and television.
In recent years, one of the most-popular approaches for new year's resolutions has been Paleo, the "caveman" approach to eating that focuses on whole, nutrient-rich foods and avoids things like processed food, added sugar, grains and dairy.
Their whole family has stayed with us on our farm, and Michelle was my roomie for the Ancestral Health Symposium in August of this past year, plus then she was my date for The Paleo Royal Wedding.В I think her approach to the paleo lifestyle is right on.

I’m so proud of these guys for producing out a really fantastic and super high quality book. I loved the addition of bacon for a little crunch and the fresh herbs and scallions make it taste bright and lighter than it’s greasy, unhealthy cousin I remember. The masterminds behind this book are Michelle Tam, lifelong foodie and creator of the popular blog Nom Nom Paleo, and her husband, Henry Fong, who is the graphic artist responsible for the eye-catching design and photography. In fact, they are some of the best tasting paleo recipes I’ve ever tried, and I am still marveling at how that can happen with so few ingredients.
And for those of you who have been following Michelle Tam on her blog or using her iPad app, you will still find brand-new recipes in this book. Plus, we made this for dinner, and the sun set at about 2:30 in the afternoon here, so I am breaking one of the major rules by using artificial light to take these photos.
Place a lid on the skillet, turn the heat down to low, and cook for about 5 minutes with the skillet covered.
Like I said earlier, it’s the textbook you always wished you had, which is especially fun for those new to paleo and still learning the concepts, getting to know the tools, and acclimating to working in the kitchen. Though she started with traditional martial arts it was not long before she discovered mixed martial arts (MMA) and her path was forever altered.

She really knows her stuff – with a degree in nutrition and food science, plus a cookbook collection to die for, Michelle is a true culinary master who understands the science of food and also how to balance flavor. When the mushrooms are browned, add the grated ginger and stir for 30 seconds to incorporate. That makes it one of the most-readable cookbooks to come out this year, even for readers who may not be interested in the Paleo lifestyle.
She offers great recipes and helpful advice for those looking to sharpen their skills in the kitchen. For example, I’d never used porcini mushrooms before making the Yankee Pot Roast recipe from this book and they added an amazing flavor (umami!). But after a few recipes where things were slightly too hot for my taste, I learned I wanted to tone down the red pepper.
