By the time I reached my early 20s, I had higher-than-normal cholesterol, had difficulty managing my weight, chronic acne and frequent heartburn.
I tried a variety of diets and supplements and health programs, but I was never able to stick to them long term because I never truly got the results I was looking for. Everything came to a head after I got married and upon arriving home from our honeymoon, I weighed myself at 147 pounds!

I am not a 100% raw food vegan and I don’t spend hundreds of dollars each month on expensive supplements, superfoods or alternative health products.
However, I enjoy exceptional health by drinking green smoothies, eating lots of fresh, whole foods and fun workouts that give me the figure I always wanted.

A healthy green smoothie is the perfect weight loss shake because it is loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals. My experience with drinking green smoothies since early 2008 has certainly had a transformative affect on my diet and I eat much healthier now than I ever have. Most of the green smoothie recipes that I post on my website contain enough calories to be a meal replacement on their own. Everyone’s diet and calorie requirements are different, so find out how many calories you should consume per meal and fortify a green smoothie recipe to meet your required calorie intake. Commercial smoothie diets have a variety of drawbacks that can make them unsuitable for many people.

Perhaps the biggest drawback to commercial smoothie diets is that they are temporary weight loss plans and typically only work in the short term. Green smoothies, on the other hand, contain only the natural, healthy whole foods you put in them. Before reaching for a “meal in a can”, try blending some tasty fruits and greens together, add a scoop of protein powder and drop in some ground flax seeds for the ultimate weight-loss shake that will have you feeling full and energized all morning. Green smoothies were the only thing that finally helped me lose weight and get the slim physique (and that elusive flat tummy) that I always wanted. After a food-filled honeymoon in Mexico and a holiday season filled with baked goodies, I wanted to start the new year off healthier. These green smoothies were not only delicious, they were giving me the body of a 20 year old!
In order to make your smoothie a complete meal replacement, make sure you add enough greens to get at least 10 to 12 grams of protein. For me, I make green smoothies that are between 300-400 calories, which is not too many calories per meal when losing weight.
