The incoming new government of the Philippines has indicated a desire for talks to solve its territorial dispute with China, igniting hopes that a fresh atmosphere can replace the chaos in the South China Sea that has characterized the past few years.
China has responded warmly by vowing to treat the Philippines as a "partner of priority" in regional cooperation. Salvador Panelo, spokesman for President-Elect Rodrigo Duterte, said on Thursday that the incoming leader has "determined on friendly ties with China". Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua said at the event that good relations between Beijing and Manila are in line with the basic interests of the two peoples, the news report said.
China is willing to view the Philippines as "a partner of priority" in the Belt and Road Initiative, in regional trade, industrial capacity cooperation and other areas, the report quoted Zhao as saying. Perfecto Yasay, the incoming Philippine foreign minister, said on Thursday in an interview published in the Chinese Commercial News that he will "invite China to join us to ensure peaceful settlement of our conflicts and difficulties".
Duterte said earlier that he would consider bilateral dialogue with China on the South China Sea issue if multilateral talks fail to make progress. China's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday insisting on bilateral negotiations with the Philippines to solve the South China Sea issue.
The Chinese Society of International Law on Friday released a paper saying any award by the tribunal is "null and void". The decision by a Nevada firm to end its relationship with a Chinese company to build a high-speed rail line linking Las Vegas and Southern California is unlikely to halt efforts to bring HSR to the US, according to a proponent. XpressWest on June 9 terminated its joint venture with China Railway International USA Co Ltd (CRI) to build a high-speed passenger railroad connecting Los Angeles to Las Vegas. In 2015, XpressWest, a private company backed by hotel developer Marnell Cos of Las Vegas, and CRI announced a joint venture to finance and develop the rail project .
The company also cited a federal requirement that high-speed trains be manufactured in the US for ending the agreement with CRI.
Kunz said mandates that the manufacture of train cars in the US should be phased in gradually, to give HSR a chance to develop in the US. Kunz said the actual train cars needed for HSR account for only about 20 to 30 percent of the materials and structures required.
Kunz noted that some companies like Germany's Siemens already produce light-rail cars in the US for mass transit systems. That's when authorities say Omar Mateen emerged, carrying an AR-15 and spraying the helpless crowd with bullets. Friends embrace outside Orlando Police Headquarters in Florida during the investigation of a shooting at the Pulse nightclub early Sunday morning, where at least 50 people were killed by a gunman. When the gunfire finally stopped, at least 50 people were dead and dozens critically wounded in the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history. Authorities immediately began investigating whether the assault was an act of terrorism and probing the background of Mateen, a 29-year-old American citizen from Fort Pierce, Florida, who had worked as a security guard. The gunman's father recalled that his son recently got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami and said that might be related to the assault. Mateen's ex-wife said his family was from Afghanistan but that her ex-husband was born in New York. A law enforcement official said the gunman made a 911 call from the club in which he professed allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
The shooter in 2013 made inflammatory comments to co-workers, and Mateen was interviewed twice, FBI agent Ronald Hopper said. Mateen purchased at least two firearms legally within the last week or so, according to Trevor Velinor of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The previous deadliest mass shooting in the US was the 2007 attack at Virginia Tech, where a student killed 32 people before killing himself. On Sunday afternoon, President Barack Obama addressed the nation for the 20th time following a shooting incident during his White House tenure. He said the massacre served as a "further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub". Some members of Congress have pushed to have gun control conversation once more, even as stricter gun control regulations face an uphill battle in both chambers. Zou Shiming's victorious overseas debut, which came in a relatively lackluster bout on Saturday, could help pave the way for Chinese boxers to join the sport's international mainstream.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist scored a 10-round unanimous decision over 19-year-old Jozsef Ajtai of Hungary at Madison Square Garden in New York, lifting his career record to 8-1 since he turned pro after the London Games in 2012. The 35-year-old flyweight's first overseas bout as a pro attracted tens of millions of Chinese fans watching live at home on TV and via online streaming platforms. Zou Shiming's arm is raised in victory after his defeat of Jozsef Ajtai of Hungary in their flyweight bout on June 11 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Zou said he felt blessed after winning at the iconic New York venue, which is where his idol, Muhammad Ali, fought several times. Ali, the former three-time heavyweight champion, died on June 3 in Arizona due to complications from Parkinson's disease. Although Zou's fight on Saturday was cheered by a group of more than 100 Chinese fans, it was far from an exciting battle, due to his opponent's defensive style, which saw Ajtai saunter around the ring to avoid clinches with Zou. Roach said Zou will likely next challenge WBA and WBO flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico. Zou, is signed to Las Vegas-based Top Rank, said he hopes to inspire Chinese to fight for world titles.
Li Sheng, Zou's agent and the CEO of Shanghai-based Sports Entertainment Content Activation, said that the victory "amplified the ultimate ambition of Chinese boxing, which is to fight and win at the highest stage in pro boxing like Pacquiao did for the Asians". Against the backdrop of a glowing summer sunset in Beijing, Premier Li Keqiang received his visiting German counterpart Angela Merkel on Sunday at the Summer Palace. It was Merkel's second visit to a World Heritage site in Beijing after she toured the Temple of Heaven in 2014. Li welcomed the German chancellor at the Summer Palace's east gate before showing her around several ancient sites. He later hosted a banquet for Merkel near the Summer Palace, where they also held an informal meeting. Li said both countries are steadily implementing the guidelines of the third round of China-Germany government consultations in 2014.
China is willing to hold in-depth discussions with the European Union during the fourth round of the consultations, scheduled for Monday, the premier said.
Areas for discussion include linking the Made in China 2025 strategy with Germany's Industry 4.0 strategy, cooperation in third-party markets and smart manufacturing. Industry 4.0, or the fourth industrial revolution, refers to the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. Merkel said bilateral relations have developed smoothly and Germany will enhance exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields. Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Beijing that China hopes the EU can fulfill its promise to recognize China as a market economy. Wang made the remarks at a bilateral meeting ahead of the fourth round of the intergovernmental consultation between the two countries. He stressed that Beijing hopes the EU can fulfill its obligations under Article 15 of the Accession Protocol of China's entry to the World Trade Organization in 2001. Earlier on Sunday, Merkel received an honorary doctoral degree from Nanjing University before delivering a speech at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. In her speech, Merkel emphasized the importance of creating a free and open atmosphere for academic discussions.

8 October 2015: Beijing, Hefei - Li accompanied Merkel on a visit to his hometown in Anhui province. 9 June: Beijing, Shenyang - In Beijing, Merkel was scheduled on Monday to co-chair the fourth round of the China-Germany Intergovernmental Consultations with Li.
For the past four or five years, the flat-screen TV hanging on the wall of my apartment has merely been an extension of my laptop.
When I was young, watching TV with my parents on an evening meant being exposed to many different forms of entertainment. So the other night, I switched on the TV, grabbed the remote, steeled myself for the unknown and went old-school flipping. I started in safe territory: China Central Television's sports channel was showing a replay of a European soccer match from the previous weekend.
A costume drama with a lot of people talking very seriously one on one (makes a nice change from WeChat groups), with the action switching between two virtually identical rooms. A madcap comedy movie in which several misfits end up in some ludicrous situation together, forcing them to make ever-more ludicrous decisions until everything all works out. Last year, Zhang Guowei claimed a silver medal at the Beijing World Championships in the men's high jump by clearing 2.33 meters and made history a week later by becoming the first Chinese athlete to finish in the top three of the IAAF Diamond League final standings. Born in 1991, Zhang roared into the spotlight at the 2012 IAAF world indoor championships in Istanbul, where he finished fourth with a Chinese indoor record-tying height of 2.31m, equaling Zhu's record. The State Council, China's Cabinet, will hold a media briefing today on the country's economic performance last month. The national food safety publicity week starts today, to raise public awareness about health risks lurking at supermarkets and restaurant tables. Top political adviser Yu Zhengsheng restated the mainland's stance on Taiwan affairs on Sunday to firmly uphold the 1992 Consensus and oppose "Taiwan independence".
Adhering to the political foundation of the 1992 Consensus, which states that both the mainland and Taiwan are parts of one China, cross-Straits relations will enjoy a prosperous future, he said, adding that the key for peaceful development is to uphold the consensus and strongly stand against secessionist activities. Yu made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the eighth Straits Forum in Xiamen, Fujian province.
The stance was outlined by the highest-ranking leader on the mainland after Taiwan's newly elected leader, Tsai Ing-wen, took office on May 20, said Zhu Songling, director of Beijing Union University's Institute of Cross-Straits Relations. Although he conceded that political exchanges have cooled, Huang Hai-lung, president of the Overseas Chinese Association based in Taipei, said he has no concerns about nongovernmental communication. Zhang Zhijun, head of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said he is optimistic about cross-Straits relations and added, "Nongovernmental communication has not only continued, but should be reinforced and deepened. Chang Yung-chiang, speaker of Taiwan's Lienchiang county council, said Tsai's ambiguous attitude may affect communications between both sides of the Straits.
Taiwan authorities have barred former leader Ma Ying-jeou from traveling to Hong Kong to deliver a speech on Wednesday. Ma was invited by the Society of Publishers in Asia to deliver the keynote speech at its 2016 awards gala dinner.
According to regulations, former leaders who want to travel outside the island must apply to the "Presidential Office" for final approval. The committee that reviewed Ma's application suggested he consider using methods such as video conferencing to speak at the meeting rather than attending in person, Alex Huang, a spokesman for Taiwan's new leader, Tsai Ing-wen, said on Sunday. Ma's office said the decision will likely hurt Taiwan's reputation for "freedom and democracy", Central News Agency reported. The decision is disrespectful of a former leader, considering that the speaking engagement would be public and Ma would "exhibit a high degree of self-restraint", the office said. Listing other successful trips by previous Taiwan leaders, Ma's office suggested "there could be other implications" behind the rejection.
Huang said the reasons to bar Ma from making the trip include a former leader's importance, the sensitive circumstances and a lack of precedents. Security concerns were also cited, as Ma was privy to some of Taiwan's most sensitive "state secrets" during his time in office, he said.
Hong Kong is not only an "extremely sensitive area" in terms of Taiwan's security, but Ma's status as a former leader makes the security risk of traveling to the city difficult to predict, Huang said. There is no precedent for Taiwan's security department collaborating with Hong Kong's government, he said, adding that thorough discussions could not be carried out with the Chinese mainland authorities and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government regarding the trip due to the tight schedule. Four people were injured in explosions at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Sunday after a man threw homemade bombs at a check-in counter.
The incident happened at about 2:30 pm at Terminal 2, according to the Shanghai Airport Authority. After throwing the devices, the suspect attempted to cut his throat and had to be hospitalized with a serious neck wound, police said.
Caixin magazine reported on its website that several witnesses said the man had thrown two bombs made from beer bottles and was preparing to take something out of a paper box when he was stopped. One witness said two senior citizens were injured when they were hit by shards of flying glass in the second explosion. Pudong New Area People's Hospital arranged for more than 10 doctors to treat the injured, Caixin reported. Police cordoned off the check-in counter, although only three flights were affected by the incident, the authority said.
Security checks were upgraded soon after the incident and blastproof screens were placed at the entrances to the airport, Dragon TV reported.

An officer examines a suspected explosive device at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Sunday after a man set off homemade bombs at a check-in counter, injuring four people. As China continues with its intensive preparations ahead of the G20 summit in the eastern city of Hangzhou in September, the country not only faces a mission to find a recipe for global economic growth, but also show its leadership in reviving the original decisive role of this multilateral framework, according to former Italian prime minister Enrico Letta. Enrico Letta, former Italian prime minister, says hosting the G20 summit is not just a chance to show China on the world stage, but also a major responsibility. Letta says China has been granted an historic responsibility to bring the G20 into what he calls the third phase since the inception of this multilateral platform by the world's leading politicians in 2008, when the financial crisis began to damage the global economy. Before taking his current position as dean of the Paris School of International Affairs, part of Sciences Po, the 50-year-old worked as a member of the European Parliament and as a party political leader in Italy. His lengthy political experience has led him to conclude that the G20 is the best global framework for responding to international challenges. At first, world leaders were united in finding fiscal remedies and fighting trade protectionism when dealing with financial upheaval, which Letta credits for the success of the G20 in the beginning.
Letta says hosting the G20 is not just a chance to show China on the world stage, but also a major responsibility. In spite of the "quiet moments" of previous years, Letta says the G20 is an inclusive global platform that has obvious advantages compared with the United Nations and the G7. The UN General Assembly is a platform to hear the opinions of the world, but it is difficult to reach a consensus among the 200 leaders, he says.
China's leadership at this year's G20 summit will be crucial to "working together to be decisive in achieving outcomes", he adds.
Letta says China is working hard in its preparations to turn the G20 into a stable and effective framework, but he adds that success depends on the three weeks running up to the leaders' summit. Letta says, ultimately, the G20 should be flexible enough respond to what is happening in the world. First, it should respond to the immigration issue, which the UN and other international groups have been working on, he says, adding that he also pins high hopes on concrete ideas and projects to be raised at the G20. For example, he says, leaders at the G20 should discuss about choosing the UN leadership, which will be decided at the end of September at the international organization's general assembly.
Letta says the G20 summit in Hangzhou and the decisions regarding the UN leadership are two of the most important international issues this year. He also predicts that fighting trade protectionism will once again top the G20 agenda, which is expected to inject confidence into global trade.
As for granting China market economy status, Letta says China and Europe should talk with each other to solve the problem. He says three things have led to the current situation in Europe, which symbolizes a new kind of nationalism, each country against each country, and Europe against the rest of the world. While Disney's largest theme park is all set to open in Shanghai this month, it is a rival park that recently opened in Jiangxi province that continues to attract increasing attention internationally. Wanda World opened in Jiangxi's capital city, Nanchang, last month as a direct rival to the imminent arrival of yet another US brand, this time in the form of a theme park. Not just where theme parks are concerned, the Chinese market is changing and, increasingly, Chinese consumers will favour brands that are representative of and infused with Chinese culture. Wang has stated publicly many times of the need to move away from Western imports and to build home-grown global brands.
Initial examples of the rejection of typically tired and tawdry US culture are bamboo forests and twirling porcelain tea cup rides. It remains to be seen just how popular Wanda World will be but certainly its strategic positioning does not represent a complete leap in the dark.
Wang's perception is absolutely spot on but he needs to add to this with the indisputable fact that Chinese consumers now possess far more confidence and self-determination in their lifestyle and consumption choices. The infatuation with Western, and typically US, culture and brands that are seen as carriers of this culture has been waning for some time. The arrival of yet another "iconic" US brand, and few can lay claim to be more symbolic of US culture than a Disneyland theme park, therefore, should contribute considerably to the intangible change in Chinese consumer tastes. US brands around the world, not too dissimilar to US culture, rarely show signs of adaptation even in the face of an increasingly changing and fragmented global consumer culture. Back in 1992, Disney embarked on what was then its first venture outside the insular US environment.
While Disneyland Paris, as it is now known, somehow managed to survive, it still stands as an extremely awkward and unwanted "guest" just outside Paris. To appeal most to the public, Wanda World needs to inject Chinese culture and aspects of modern Chinese life into every possible part of the theme park offerings. Wang is spot on once again with his recent public comments about the frenzied excitement that Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck having passed and that the blind following of anything Western, especially American, has also passed. But Wang's theme park does not appear at present to have delved anywhere near deep enough into China's rich history and culture.
If Wang is serious about his theme park providing an opportunity to experience Chinese culture then Wanda World needs to incorporate key aspects of Chinese culture across modern and, even more importantly, ancient China: Significant inclusion, therefore, from key individuals and their styles across the ages with regard to Chinese literature, music, arts and crafts. Not only will this increase the appeal to a wider demographic group, it will also attract the attention of younger Chinese consumers too. National pride and identity might be waning in many developed countries but, according to my research findings in recent years, it remains as strong as ever among younger Chinese consumers. Ancient Chinese culture, packaged in an exciting and passionate context, should fit well across all ages of Chinese consumers and the value they place on national identity.
A subtle blend of characters and symbols of modern as well as ancient Chinese culture therefore appears the way forward for Wanda World. It is highly likely that, despite the fanfare that usually takes place when the US "comes to town", the very American offering that we will soon see in Shanghai will very quickly begin to adapt more and more to fit in with Chinese culture and the very different needs of the typical Chinese consumer.
The author is a visiting professor at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing and a senior lecturer at Southampton University. The founder and chairman of Wanda Group opened his first theme park on the Chinese mainland last month - and in doing so proclaimed his company as the biggest threat to the new Shanghai Disney Resort. In an earlier interview with China Central Television, the state broadcaster, he warned that Disney's first foray on the Chinese mainland was destined to fail because of his park's competitive pricing and because "the frenzy of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and the era of blindly following them, has passed". Data from the Chinese Tourism Academy show that the total revenue of China's tourism sector was 4 trillion yuan ($608 billion; 536 billion euros) last year, with about 230 billion yuan generated by theme parks. Disney's new resort and theme park in Shanghai, which has cost $5.1 billion to build and is scheduled to open on June 16, will be the largest in the world.
Ben Cavender, principal of China Market Research Group, believes both parks have the potential to do well. One advertisement for Wanda City offers a night in the luxury Mandarin Hotel and two adult tickets for the theme park for 888 yuan. By comparison, three-day Shanghai Disney Resort packages now being offered by China Travel Service start at 2,590 yuan a person, which includes two nights at a nearby hotel and an adult ticket for the park. Wang Ling, who lives in Nanchang, visited Wanda City on the opening day with her 3-year-old son. Zhang Yiyi, a fan of theme parks from Zhejiang province, recently wrote a review online after visiting both Shanghai Disney Resort and Wanda City. Burgess believes Disney's challenge in China will be becoming as localized as possible while still maintaining its core essence.
CBRE's Ji says the Nanchang site is the latest step in Wanda's efforts to transform from being a property developer to a theme park operator. Wanda signed a deal in February with French retailer Auchan Group to develop a 3 billion euros ($3.4 billion) project called EuropaCity, which will be built adjacent to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Universal Studios Inc has said it wants to open a site in Beijing, while Six Flags has teamed up with Riverside Investment Group, a Beijing real estate developer, to build a number of Six Flags parks across the mainland over the next decade. The Eden Project, the attraction in southwest England, also signed a deal with property developer China Jinmao Holdings Ltd last year to build China Eden, a tourism and education project, in the east-coast city of Qingdao.

China already has about 3,000 large and small theme parks, according to Yang Yanfeng, an associate professor with the China Tourism Academy. To make money, Wang Xuguang, president of Haichang Ocean Park Holdings Co Ltd, which manages several aquatic-themed parks in China, says the positioning, planning, core products and operating capabilities of such attractions are decisive factors. Chen Shi, assistant general manager of TFTR Investment Co Ltd, which holds interests in amusement parks, adds that there is a structural imbalance in the industry in China.
Parks with light assets, quality services, mature IP, innovative facilities and lots of interaction with visitors can stand out among the fierce competition, he says, adding that with China's soaring demand for leisure and travel he is optimistic about the market potential for theme parks. Chinese consumer spending reached the highest level in the first quarter of this year, despite the country's economic slowdown, according to a May 31 report by market researchers Nielsen.
So even though Disney is facing stiff competition, it looks like being a happy ending for theme park fans.
China's football industry has applauded retail giant Suning Commerce Group's acquisition of a majority stake in top European club Inter Milan. Liu Tong, a senior official at the Chinese Football Association, said the deal provides a precious opportunity for Chinese football to improve its management and competition skills. Suning's subsidiary, Suning Sports Group, signed the deal for 270 million euros ($306 million) in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, on June 6, sealing the acquisition of a nearly 70 percent stake from Inter Milan majority shareholder International Sports Capital. The deal leaves International Sports Capital as the sole minority shareholder at the club, with Erick Thohir retaining his position as president. Zhang Jindong, chairman of Suning Holdings Group, said, "With Suning's sustained investment, the aspirations of Massimo Moratti, the former president of Inter Milan, and management know-how from Thohir, the club will continue to be a cradle and center for leading football players.
The deal was forged after the first meeting between Zhang and Thohir before Spring Festival in February. The acquisition is expected to bring to the Italian club the world's largest football fan market and Suning's continuous capital investment, according to the retailer. The multi-industry conglomerate has been eyeing the rising trend of sports and health-related consumption in China. The group said it hopes to enhance exchanges between Jiangsu Suning Football Club in China, which it owns, and Inter Milan. Pang Zhongying, dean of the School of International Relations at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. Home is where the heart is, which raises a burning question for Huang Yuanpeng: Who pulls his heartstrings hardest - his wife and 3-year-old son or those strange creatures in the forest he has decided to devote his life to? The group of animals that Huang, 34, has spent the past 10 years doing research on at Shennongjia Golden Monkeys Protection and Research Center high in the mountains of Shennongjia National Nature Reserve in Hubei province are as rare as pandas: golden snub-nosed monkeys that are found nowhere other than China. Top: Huang Yuanpeng's fellow researchers from Shennongjia Golden Monkeys Protection and Research Center check on the monkeys.
Huang visits his home in a nearby town, where his wife takes care of their son, almost every month, but the transport logistics make it hard for some of the other 11 researchers aged from 20 to 60 from distant regions to go back home regularly. They take turns to have four days off each month and even spend the traditional Chinese New Year looking after the monkeys.
And that self-sacrificing care seems to be paying off, for the group of snub-nosed monkeys he has been looking after has grown from about 50 to more than 90 over 10 years.
Golden snub-nosed monkeys are distinguished by their bright fur, graceful movements, and gentle nature. They are critically endangered because of habitat destruction and human hunting, and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature has listed them as a rare animal species. Years of close interaction with the monkeys has given Huang and his colleagues an intimate knowledge of their charges' habits and traits. When Huang talks about the monkeys' lives he comes across as a proud parent talking about his offspring.
Shennongjia, with mountains, thick forests and abundant rainfall that nurture diverse foods for animals, is an important habitat for the golden snub-nosed monkeys. In 2005, the research center Huang works in was founded in Dalongtan, which is 2,300 meters above sea level and one of the natural habitats for the species. The researchers selected a typical group of the monkeys that lived in a surrounding area of 8 square kilometers for long-term tracking and research. The researchers track and observe the snub-nosed monkey population, and collect their feces and fur for research.
Huang says that at first life with the monkeys was dull, but he slowly acclimatized to the point where he could feel at one with them. These include severely cold weather and snow-blanketed roads in winter and mosquitoes and snakes in summer. In the early years, before the advent of electronic tagging, they would pack camping equipment and food, and sometimes remain in the wild for weeks on end doing tracking work. One of the greatest challenges for the monkeys is the harsh climate, winter lasting as long as six months and temperatures dropping to -20 C. In 2005, researchers began to provide food to the monkeys, starting with usnea, a kind of parasitic plant growing on pine trees. The monkeys were very cautious at first and they took three months to try the apples and adapt to the new diet, Huang says. Nowadays, the researchers get up at daybreak to track the monkeys, and feed them three or four meals a day, with usnea, apples, pine cones and other foods.
Over the years, the number of the snub-nosed monkey population in the reserve has risen from about 500 in the mid-80s to more than 1,300 now. Yang Jingyuan, head of the reserve's scientific research institute, says the achievement is the result of several major national campaigns such as the country's natural forest protection project started at the beginning of the century.
In 2011, the State Forestry Administration of China turned the Dalongtan base into a national research center for golden snub-nosed monkeys. It collaborates in research with many universities and often receives international scientific research groups. With greater support from the national government in recent years, the center has carried out more key protection projects related to the species, such as restoring fragmented or degraded habitats and finding potential new habitats in the region. At its Dalongtan base, the center has set up a 4G monitoring platform that includes technologies such as wireless sensoring, satellite navigation and positioning and cloud services.
A private US railway company abruptly backed out of a deal with a Chinese consortium on Wednesday to build a high-speed rail line from Los Angeles, California, to Las Vegas, Nevada.
XpressWest Enterprises, a passenger rail venture supported by a Las Vegas hotel and casino developer, announced nine months ago that China Railway International USA Co would build the line.
The sudden change of direction caught many by surprise, including CRI, which said breaking the deal was irresponsible and a violation of the agreement it had signed last year with XpressWest.
In a statement posted online, XpressWest said it was constrained by US government regulations. XpressWest and CRI agreed in September to advance the substantial work already completed by XpressWest. The 370-kilometer XpressWest high-speed railway project - also called the Southwest Rail Network - would connect Southern California with the Nevada gambling mecca using advanced tracks and equipment. The official said China Railway Corp Group, the main shareholder and the country's railway service provider, will take all necessary measures to ensure that its interests in the US are protected.
CRI, is a consortium of China Railway Construction Corp, China Railway Corp Group, China Railway Rolling Stock Corp, China State Construction Engineering Corp and China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group. Construction work was planned to start as early as September this year, with total investment estimated at $12.7 billion. Luo said such protectionism should not be allowed to pressure Chinese railway equipment providers and infrastructure construction companies. Both CRI and XpressWest said their governments have much to talk about, especially regarding global and regional challenges and fair opportunities for US companies to choose global partners. Ma Yu, a senior researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation in Beijing, said there has been an obvious rise in global trade protectionism, in particular from the United States and its close trading partners, including Turkey, India and the European Union.

Anything I watch, I stream on the internet: movies, serial dramas, documentaries, or music videos.
We'd watch a soap opera, then maybe a quiz show, then the news, then a police or hospital drama, then maybe a wildlife show, and then a film, which is when my father would inevitably fall asleep. Today, I can spend an evening watching an entire season of Mad Men, or episode upon episode of the BBC family comedy Outnumbered. There was tinkling, overwrought music throughout, and a guy with white hair and long eyebrows who gave me the creeps.
One of them, a woman in her 50s, started cry-talking - you know, when a person is actually trying to form words but it just ends up a wail. I'd had enough, but at least it had reminded me why I started streaming in the first place.

For many years now Western brands, especially luxury labels such as Burberry and Chanel, have seen struggling to maintain market share across China. The likelihood of getting injured as a result of exercise is lower in the afternoon because the higher temperature can warm the muscles and make them more flexible. The postures are meant to strengthen your body from the inside-out, so you don’t just look good, you feel good too.
In addition, the muscles are stronger, which further decreases the possibility of getting injured. 5. Each of the yoga poses is built to reinforce the muscles around the spine, the very center of your body, which is the core from which everything else operates.
When the core is working properly, posture is improved, thus alleviating back, shoulder and neck pain.
This can be divided into 30-minute sets. You should also plan to develop your muscles by weightlifting for one hour a week.
The digestive system gets back on track when the stretching in yoga is coupled with a healthy, organic diet, which can relieve constipation, irritable bowl syndrome (IBS) and acid reflux.
Scientists at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center found that prostate cancer progression was significantly slowed when patients went on a low-fat diet with fish oil supplements.14Leafy green vegetablestudies have shown that a high intake of dark-leafy vegetables, such as spinach or cabbage may significantly lower a person's risk of developing diabetes type 2. Another one of the benefits of yoga is that stretching and holding of postures also causes muscles to lengthen, which gives the body a longer, leaner look. How does power yoga build muscle?A more advanced form of yoga can amplify these effects. Adapted from the basic Ashtanga yoga, power yoga requires increased amounts of energy, focus and strength.
Deeper, more focused participation is required, because most poses are held for five full breaths versus the usual one to three breaths.
Muscles are challenged as the mind and body have to work together simultaneously to hold a position or continue a succession without giving up. Breathing, posing, moving and increasing flexibility happen all together at one time, which solicits a new level of discipline in your mind and body.Power yoga and the coreIsometric exercises are one of the best ways to build core strength. Isometric, stemming from the words “same” and “length,” simply translates to holding one position without moving. Power yoga uses isometric exercises along with other postures that are designed to make the core and back stronger. Flexibility and balance stem from your core, so it is very important to train this area of the body.
