I often hear from people about how expensive it is to have a healthy diet on a budget and my feelings on this are mixed.

We could have had a healthy diet for the week on less money than I spent, but it would have relied on us eating mostly the same things throughout the week and not overly enjoying the meals. It is difficult to make this budget shopping list and meal plan as everyone shops at different places, and people are from different parts of the world, so not everything is going to cost the same. I also have not included things like oats, spices, herbs and things as we don’t buy those very often, but they have gone into some of these meals. This hasn’t been made so people can criticise what we eat, how we eat or how much we eat. I like the sound of this but i have to take into account my lactose intolerance nad with my autism i cant have gluten.
Some great ideas here, its sad that so many people think a healthy diet isn’t achievable on a low budget.
That is such a helpful post for everyone who is struggling to eat healthy because of budgetary restraints! Brilliant tips here, I will add some of these groceries to my online shop and try to cut back a bit.
I reckon I spend about ?75 every ten days on my internet shop with a few top ups for stuff we run out off.
February 18, 2014 by Joy Leave a Comment I typically start off the new year doing some sort of cleanse or fast. Focusing on eating clean and eliminating toxic foods for a few weeks helps to reset my body (and mind!) and get rid of the sugar cravings that I always give in to during the holidays. Whether your new eating plan is only a slight departure from your normal way of eating or a complete overhaul, know why you are making the change. I can be pretty anal from time to time (some might say all the time), so I would make it a point to start my New Year’s cleanse on January 1st.
This 14 day clean eating meal plan will change your life because it makes eating healthy easy for the whole family! My philosophy on eating well has always come with a little flack from the internet community. Eating real food is what I strive for and is the motivating factor for my lifestyle (hello hobby farm!) As much as I love weeding and tending animals, I’m really in it for the FOOD! 80% of the time I make a very deliberate effort to include whole grains, lots of protein, vegetables, and fruit in our eating. The links go to the recipes but some of the recipes can only be found in my EBook Real Food For Real Families. There is no doubt that a lot of junk is pretty cheap (frozen chicken nuggets, cookies and stuff like that) but healthy eating is nowhere near as expensive as people think it is. To follow on from this, last week I kept track of everything I bought with the budget we had for the week and what I made with that food.

Luckily, we are in the position that although we are on a budget, it is not so strict that we have to eat the same dinner 5 times in the week. This isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list, but more a guide to show you what I buy and what I make on the budget I have.
I realise there are a lot of people who have a lot less than us to live on, and they get by, so come and share you healthy budget meals on the Facebook page. My partner and I spend around ?25-35 a week on food, and I don’t feel like we sacrifice things. Gives me faith that I can cut back on my weekly shop without sacrificing healthy, tasty food!
I Do Have One Question Though.Where Do I Find The Recipes To The Meals That You Do Mot Have A Direct Link To Such As The Banana And Almond Butter Smoothie? I am a healthy eater most of the time, the exception being between Thanksgiving and Christmas when I basically eat whatever I want. Over the years, I’ve developed some tried and true tips to sticking to a cleanse or healthy eating plan. Hopefully, it is something more substantial than being able to fit into a pair of jeans or dress. Here’s the secret to making real food a lifestyle change and not just a fun idea or a weeklong diet. This lifestyle is made achievable, attainable, and desirable by focusing on one simple word: balance.
I don’t have a pantry full of health-food-store-only-products; I tend to learn towards traditional or “old-fashioned” ingredients. Whole grains are popular and it’s pretty easy to find great simple whole grain products. I’d much rather have my kids eat my butter, sugar, and white flour chocolate chip cookies than anything made with a box of sugar-free Jell-O. It’s all of my tips, tricks, recipes, and thoughts on how to feed your family well, all in one place. Taking the planning out of life changes will make it attainable, reachable, and so much less of a headache. We cut back elsewhere (like going out), so we can try new recipes and have a couple of treats.
We would usually eat a lot more than this, as we have pretty tough workouts, but with me not being able to workout at the moment (and my husband being supportive and staying away from the gym with me), we don’t need to eat as much as we usually do, so our calorie intake is less. So instead of stressing out about whether I’d be disciplined enough to start a cleanse while on vacation, I simply pushed my start date out a few days.
Whether you are following a detailed meal plan that has been prepared for you or have put together something on your own, get your recipes and shopping lists organized. When you find yourself busy and hungry during the hustle and bustle of the week (prime time for making bad food choices), you’ll be able to grab or quickly prepare a healthy meal or snack.
No need to figure out all those crazy natural sweeteners when bees and trees got us covered.

I’m more scared of all that fake stuff than normal old flour, sugar, chocolate, and butter.
I am intentional in my efforts to raise well-rounded kids who will try most anything, who enjoy green smoothies, and who will never say no to a sucker at the bank. Now you don’t have to be a short order cook and make something for your family and something different for yourself.
Plus it comes with ideas and recipes for breakfast, lunch, and snacks (because we all know there’s a lot more than just dinner to plan!!!), shopping lists, must-read book list, and about a million other things that made it much too long for one blog post. Enjoy a few free recipes on the house and be excited about eating clean with your whole crew.
Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the things we want, so if you do find healthy eating is more expensive, try cutting back in other areas so you can eat better. If you are on a stricter budget, cut out meat completely and eat more bean based meals and have more pasta dishes – that will bring the cost down. For myself, I know that I feel at my best when I am properly fueled, physically strong and well-hydrated.
That way I didn’t start the cleanse feeling stressed and overwhelmed because I was trying to do the impossible! If your plan includes hard-to-find ingredients that require a trip to a specialty food store, make sure you take note of that before you head out to do the shopping.
Eating clean is a lifestyle and I’m here to help you achieve your goals of eating better. It just is not available to me in my tiny middle-of-nowhere town, and I can’t afford it. T, times that by 7 (the number of days in a week), and you have roughly 35 eating sessions in a week that you have to make decisions about. The recipes are printer ready and it even comes with a shopping list just waiting for you to print off! As you can see, we had salmon one day, which is a bit of a luxury if you are on a budget, so you could cut that out.
I understand that other people do though, so you would need to adjust your budget accordingly. When you are doing well in your home, it’s ok to let them eat a little junk when they are out. If you make healthy choices 80% of the time, that means you are eating 28 out of 35 meals or snacks in a week that are real food.
This will prevent mid-week runs to the grocery store, saving you much-needed time and energy! Getting the entire family on board with eating well had never be easier and I’m here to show you how.
