Let me start by asking you that question.  How many times do you poop per day?  Once?  Twice?  Three times?  Once every other day?  Once every 3 days? In the past few years I’ve begun to realize one important thing – fiber is a nutrient – and it’s one of the most important nutrients that you can put into your body. Nutrients are compounds that either provide energy (carbohydrates, fats, protein, and alcohol), or compounds that assist in chemical reactions (e.g. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 22, I have spent over a decade learning the fundamentals of nutrition at the doctorate level. That's why I've spent over 10 years developing a rock solid system that can minimize blood glucose variability and insulin resistance. The more restrictive the diet, the higher your chances of quitting with a righteous binge that takes you off track permanently.
I hear it all the time: You have tried every diet out there, and absolutely nothing has worked.

Any time a diet plan cuts out major food groups, or has you going from zero to 60 in one day, youa€™re bound to fail.
When you eat food, your body digests it and pulls the nutrients from the food to feed the cells in your body.
Diet programs that dona€™t offer any one-on-one attention or a support system of readily accessible peers are basically just trying to sell you something that works only for the obsessively dedicated. In the end, anything that deprives you, pushes too quickly, doesna€™t focus on nutrition, or isna€™t goal- and support-oriented isna€™t going to work for the long haul. Sarah Haskins is the founder of Whole Green You, a holistic health coaching practice that specializes in helping busy men and women around the country increase their energy, improve their relationship to food, lose weight, deconstruct and control cravings, and reduce their toxic load. If you will be reusing any images, please determine whether your application needs a model release and ask the proper owner. You're still overweight, have no energy and youa€™re pretty much ready to just give in to the idea that this is how your life is going to be forever. Once your willpower is depleted, cravings can overpower you and give you that perfect excuse to trash your diet plan and a€?get back on track on Monday.a€? To be effective, a plan needs to meet you where you are and not where you a€?shoulda€? be. If your cells arena€™t getting everything they need, they will keep sending signals to your brain to eat more food. Unless you have all the time and energy in the world to put toward your diet plan, youa€™re going to need some kind of support. If you will be using the file for commercial purposes or to make money for any reason, it will be up to you to contact the proper owner and ask for permission to use the picture of the piece of art or to pay royalty fees.
But the fact of the matter is, what works for those people on TV or your best friend may not work for you at all.
The more restrictive the diet a€“ no matter how well-prepared you are a€“ the higher your chances of ending that diet with a righteous binge that takes you off track permanently.
Packaged and processed food a€“ even the stuff in the 100-calorie packs or the a€?healthya€? frozen food aisle at the grocery store a€“ are keeping you from losing weight and reaching your goals.

The pictures may be used for private, personal use (if they are not sold in any form) without these restrictions.
One tiny step in the wrong direction threatens to undo all of your hard work and sabotage everything you've accomplished so far. Thirty percent of Americans are trying to lose weight, while another 30 percent are just trying to maintain their weight. In order to lose weight or maintain the weight youa€™ve worked so hard to get off, you have to be ready to make lasting lifestyle changes.
Nearly two-thirds of Americans who lose weight on diets gain it back within one year, and a whopping 98 percent of those people gain back their weight and more within two years. When the little triumphs happen along the way that werena€™t the focus of your end goal, ita€™s easy to miss them and instead dwell on what you haven't accomplished yet. If the foods youa€™re eating are keeping you inflamed, not meeting your nutritional needs or depriving you to the point where ita€™s all you can think about, you're setting yourself up for failure. Who is going to support you in putting down that pint of Ben and Jerrya€™s when youa€™ve had a bad day and help you focus on the reason you turn to junk when things are bad?
However, it should also be very clear that the reason for these shocking statistics is that diets simply do not work.
They pick up where doctors and diets leave off and offer support and one-on-one guidance to help you make changes that are sustainable for a lifetime.
My health coaching practice, Whole Green You, for example, works with individuals a€“ both one-on-one and in very supportive small groups a€“ to help make life-long changes. In fact, you can listen to one of our group calls and download the handouts to get started on your road to success.
