They took the wind out of Andrew Luck’s sails — but did they also drain some air from the balls? New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, front, and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (12) part after speaking following the NFL football AFC Championship game Sunday, Jan.
The New England Patriots wrecked the Indianapolis Colts Sunday evening, winning 45-7 and securing their place against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount (29) scores on a 13-yard touchdown run during the second half of the NFL football AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, Jan.
But NFL officials are now investigating whether the Patriots drained air from footballs to make them easier to handle in Sunday’s windy conditions.
Bob Kravitz, reporter with Indianapolis station WTHR-TV, tweeted about the investigation early Monday morning, saying the Patriots could lose draft picks if they’re found guilty of ball tampering.
Breaking: A league source tells me the NFL is investigating the possibility the Patriots deflated footballs Sunday night.
Told if a league investigation confirms deflated footballs it will result in lost draft picks. Of course, no amount of ball tampering could change the lopsided results of Sunday’s game, as Kravitz readily admitted, writing, “Nobody is suggesting [that ball tampering] is why the [C]olts lost obviously.
Will the reinstatement of Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for his alleged role in DeflateGate result in the New England Patriots missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008? The last time that happened in Foxborough, the four-time Super Bowl champion quarterback suffered a season-ending knee injury during the first game of the 2008 season. Although the NFLPA recently received an extension to again appeal NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s disciplinary actions, the probability of a reversal is quite slim.
With Brady in all likelihood out for the first quarter of the season, the team could slump out the gate to an 0-4 start and may not recover. Opening the season, New England travels to Arizona to take on a team that reached the NFC Championship game last year and appears to be improved after free agency and the 2016 draft. Outside the division, the Patriots face another improved 2015 playoff team, the Houston Texans.
Once Brady returns, he’ll face the perennial doormat Cleveland Browns, probably a tune-up game.
However, the club that lost four games in 2015 with a more talented roster then faces a four-game stint that includes the defending AFC North champion Cincinnati Bengals, wild card entries Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks and then a road trip to Buffalo. The remaining opponents include a pair of slugfests against the 10-6 Jets and a flight to Mile High to face the defending Super Bowl champion Broncos. Should opponents feast on Garoppolo and drop New England to an 0-4 start, reaching the postseason could require more than 10-2. Can the dynamic duo of Bill Belichick and Brady achieve perfection and win 12 consecutive contests to reach the postseason?
After last night’s win over the Eagles, a number of New England Patriots players took some time to speak with the media.
TB: Yeah, they all have some different skill sets to allow them to get open in different ways.
Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen are both 25 year old backs who have showed at times great promise in this league. Currently, the Patriots have three running backs approaching contract years in their rookie deals with Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, and Brandon Bolden. There is a good bet the Patriots will be taking a running back in the 2015 draft, maybe even two as they did with Ridley and Vereen in 2011. Other running backs to keep an eye on are Karlos Williams (Florida State),  Malcolm Brown (Texas), Ameer Abdullah (Nebraska), Marlin Lane (Tennessee) and two small school guys I like a lot, Rob Holloman (Central Connecticut State) and Malcolm Agnew (S.

I was on the completely opposite side of this immediately after the game against the Skins, but I saw Finch live in practice last Tuesday at Gillette and he was consistently carrying the ball securely and not playing nearly as recklessly – without either of those things diminishing his effectiveness. New England Patriots fans; Chowder and Champions takes a closer look at what we think our team should focus on in the 2016 NFL Draft.
After the Patriots’ offense faceplanted in the second half of the 2015-2016 season, it’s pretty clear that most Patriots fans are NOT OK with New England using the 2015 Denver Broncos modus operandi.
So, yeah, New England Patriots fans, having settled into to the comically high standards that Tom Brady and friends have set for themselves, want an offense that’s more like what the Pats did in the first half of the season.
That being said, there’s only one way to find out what Patriots lifers want in the 2016 draft.
Some people knew exactly who was on their wish list – Ohio State’s Braxton Miller was one person’s dream pick, and Rutgers’ Leonte Carroo would make another guy a happy camper. Of course, they’d also be fine with stumbling across the next Antonio Brown, who almost didn’t get drafted at all before the Pittsburgh Steelers scooped him up in the sixth round. Which is good, because, as I’ve written before, even if New England still had their first-round pick, I’d bet the rent that they don’t use it on a wide receiver. It’s hard to believe even through all the injuries, inconsistencies and murders (Aaron Hernandez incident) that occurred during the 2013 season for the New England Patriots, they still managed to finish the season with a 12-4 record plus reach the AFC Championship game. Wide Receiver: The Patriots currently have a lot of receivers on their roster so it may seem confusing to why they would need to target this position in the draft. Tight End: Another confusing “need” since the Pats already have who some believe to be the most talented tight end in the game.
Defensive Tackle: I highly expect the Pats to draft a DT in the first round this coming draft. Rex and Rob Ryan have joined forces in New York and come into the season with even bigger chips on their shoulders, if that’s possible. Week 4 would be a prime opportunity for Buddy Ryan’s sons to hammer the reigning division champs. And that feat would need to be accomplished without high-flying receivers like Randy Moss on the roster. With the clock running out on  a possible record fifth Super Bowl championship, their legacy hangs in the balance.
Sitting on the sideline like last week isn’t nearly as fun, so getting out there and getting a chance to play a little bit was great. We haven’t done a lot of that this year, but I think all the skill guys are going to have to play a big part of our team this year. They stood up here in front of us and told us they were going to throw a lot of them and they sure did.
The cut down this year will be painful though I still think a couple DB’s, Wilson and Ebner, would not be a great losses, Chung could fill their ST functions or maybe even Thomas.
SO many mock drafts.  There’s mock drafts for the first round, the second round, and mocks that have the Titans trading the first overall pick for a Pontiac Trans Am and a a couple Luke Bryan tickets.
New England fans are the people that show out every weekend, pack bars to capacity, show up at 7 am for a 1 pm game, and spent the last 435 days (and counting) defending the wall.
Put it this way: in the first seven weeks of the season last year, the Patriots hung at least 30 points on everyone they played except one team – and that one team was the 28 points they scored against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the season opener.
Other folks weren’t drooling over a specific player but had an archetype in mind, such as a taller Mike Evans type wideout that can pull down the tough catches, or a downfield burner for all of us that still have Deion Branch jerseys in our closets. Don’t forget; not all receivers are created equal, and not all of the best ones go in the first round, either.
Since injuries can’t be predicted, it’s really hard for the Patriots to be ready for them especially if they arrive as abundantly as they did last season and to very crucial players like Rob Gronkowski.

Their biggest flaw was stopping the run and although Wilfork did miss the season with an injury, they still need more help for the big guy.
The Patriots defeated the Colts 45-7 to advance to the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. Last season, the team’s top weapon after its future Hall of Fame quarterback was Rob Gronkowski. The one thing about offensive football is all 11 guys have to be on the same page, so those are things we’re all working to try to correct. The first quarter, we had the ball most of the first quarter, which is always great, especially at home.
Finch is showing well and I’d like to hold out hope he continues to and could make it onto the 53 as a 5th RB. Besides injuries the Pats struggled with inconsistency from their wide receivers and defensive players (granted they did get most of their injuries on the defensive end).  During this offseason the Pats seemed to go head to head with the Broncos, countering their every move. I rank the rest of their receivers in this order: Dobson, Amendola, Boyce, LaFell, and Thompkins. He can single handedly save an offensive drive and is almost an automatic touchdown guy when the Pats drive close to the goal line. After working so hard on fixing the secondary, adding some talent to the defensive line should really make the Pats one of the teams to beat in the AFC if not the team to beat. The Pro Bowl tight end had an excellent 2015, posting 1,176 yards and 11 touchdowns, but he hasn’t played in all 16 regular-season games since 2011. The team’s second leading receiver, Julian Edelman, didn’t crack 700 yards in 2015 and New England lacked a 1,000-yard rusher. Dobson may emerge as a good receiver if he and Brady can get their timing down because the talent is there, but with the rest of the receivers, they are who we thought they were; very average and Amendola can’t stay healthy. With all that said the Pats did lose Hernandez to prison last year and they love to run that two TE offense but none of the other TE’s currently on the roster have the skills to run with Gronk.
Those are real critical points in winning the game and it was good tonight to be able to do that.
The Pats also added Brandon Browner to their secondary, which solidifies it for this pending season. This draft is deep at the wide receiver position so the Pats won’t need to reach early to get a receiver who can compete and get one of these other guys I named earlier cut.
Besides that, Gronk did miss a lot of the year with injuries and the Pats didn’t really have anyone to step in and make even half the impact Gronk would make.  A TE would be a great addition to helping Brady reach that 4th Super Bowl. The score got a little crazy there at the end, but I’m glad we came out on the winning end. White had a quiet first half with the starters while Gray tore up the second half against lesser defenders but still was impressive to see. Besides the shaky secondary, the Pats also gave up nearly the most rushing yards in the league ending up ranked 30th in rush defense.
Other good viewing was Garoppolo taking up where he left off last week only with the srarters and reservers filling in. There are a lot of pieces in this draft that could help strengthen this already scary good team.
