The program length is 30 credit hours, 15 of which must be graduate level accounting courses. Sample courses include External Auditing, Advanced Tax Concepts, and Accounting Ethics and Professionalism. Over the course of the program, students develop the skills to become partners and owners of public accounting firms. The required accounting core courses go over topics such as financial data communications and risk assessment. The publication ranked UI 31st in its Best Bang for the Buck rankings of National Universities. Also, students may choose to forgo some accounting electives and take business information systems classes instead and earn a concentration in that field. However, graduates are still equipped to fill corporate financial management and investment bank positions. BGSU’s College of Business was included in The Princeton Review’s book, The Best 296 Business Schools (2015 Edition). Along with the different tracks, students can choose from elective courses like Advanced Managerial Accounting and Fraud Examination.
The school placed 175th and 194th in the National University rankings of Washington Monthly and U.S. Also, earning the degree satisfies the education requirements to sit for the CPA examination in Illinois. Required core courses include Financial Accounting Theory, Federal Taxes II, and Applied Professional Accounting Research (Comprehensive Exam). The program includes a CPA review course that is spread out strategically over the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Sample core courses include Professional Accounting, Advanced Management Accounting, and Taxation of Gifts, Trusts and Estates.
The college’s Masters Degree in Accountancy teaches students about international accounting and taxation of flow-through entities.
