With a flurry of moves the New England Patriots finished their roster to 75 in anticipation of facing the New York Giants on Thursday night in their final preseason game.
The Patriots even picked up two wide receivers to bolster their depleted group after Jonathan Krause was waived with an injury designation. To replace them the Patriots claimed wide receiver DaVaris Daniels from waivers from the Minnesota Vikings.
The Patriots also placed rookie seventh-round draft pick Darryl Roberts on injured reserve after he had suffered a significant wrist injury in the first preseason game.
With just one game to go and most of the starters sitting, the final preseason game should give the New England coaching staff a final look at the players fighting for a spot on the final roster.
Another popular UDFA rookie among Saints fans, it was hoped that Dangerfield could contend for one of the last WR spots on the Saints final roster after a brilliant college career at Western Kentucky. Dangerfield saw 15 snaps against the Patriots in limited action in the 2nd half, and caught one pass for 6 yards.
We discussed further how special the Brady-Belichick era has been for the New England Patriots and how it has spoiled us Pats’ fans rotten, in a good way. The quarterback entered the game for one play midway through the second quarter of the Patriots’ final preseason game, serving as the holder on a Stephen Gostkowski extra point. We saw another example of that in the team’s third preseason game, when Belichick replaced Brady with backup (or, as it looks like now, third-stringer) Ryan Mallett for one series in the first quarter. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick got good news Thursday, but he wasn’t going to let that affect how he goes about his business. Belichick and the rest of the Patriots learned Thursday morning that quarterback Tom Brady had his four-game suspension lifted by U.S. In true Belichick fashion, however, the New England head coach was solely focused on his team’s final preseason game against the New York Giants.
After the team tendered the offensive lineman with a one-year deal earlier this offseason, Devey will be among the players cut while San Francisco trims its roster to 90 to add its recent rookie class, as first reported by CSN Bay Area.
Devey was acquired in a trade with the New England Patriots for tight end Asante Cleveland before the final preseason game last August and was immediately inserted into the 49ers’ starting lineup at right guard.

He struggled in four games before rotating out of the lineup, allowing former practice squad member Andrew Tiller playing time.
The 49ers added three offensive lineman in the recent NFL draft: guard Joshua Garnett (first round, pick 28), tackle John Theus (round five, pick 145) and tackle Fahn Cooper (round five, pick 174). Theus and Cooper are expected to compete for playing time both at guard and tackle, general manager Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly said after the draft, giving the team depth along the front five. San Francisco’s offensive line was arguably its worst position group in 2015, allowing 53 sacks, the second most in the NFL while struggling to consistently open holes in the running game.
The roster battle among offensive linemen will be one to watch during training camp later this summer.
Competing for reserve roles will be Erik Pears, Marcus Martin, Brandon Thomas, Tiller, Ian Silberman, Theus and Cooper. Additionally, reserve kicker Corey Acosta Tweeted about his release while the team is expected to add former Liberty kicker John Lunsford to spell Phil Dawson during camp and the preseason. The 2014 New York Giants football schedule kicks off with the annual preseason, Hall of Fame game on August 3rd, 2014 against the Buffalo Bills in Canton, Ohio. Check out our 2014 New York Giants printable schedule provided for Giants fans who are looking to print their team’s 2014 schedule for the NFL regular season. After three preseason games it was clear what players were borderline roster players and who was a roster lock.
After he passed through waivers, Krause joined Brian Tyms and Brandon Gibson on injured reserve.
Fullback James Develin was placed on season-ending injured reserve after breaking his leg last week against Carolina. Tight end Jimmay Mundine was let go earlier this week along with former 2013 starter on the defensive line, Joe Vellano.
WIth 22 players to be cut here is a look at the projected 53-man roster and what players I think will miss the cut and fight for a spot with another team or end up on a practice squad.

After a victory on Thursday over the Chicago Bears, the big picture of the New England Patriots’ squad seems to be coming into better focus. The New England Patriots and Chicago Bears found themselves in a good old fashion sports’ brawl and that emotion carried over into the game Thursday night. They also plan on making the addition undrafted free agent Baylor guard Mike Muir official this week.
It added free agent guard Zane Beadles last month, who was the only outside free agent signed with the expectation to start. The Giants get to play four additional preseason games starting with seeing the Pittsburg Steelers at home on August 9th, 2014. Injuries and ineffectiveness made the initial moves for the Patriots had to make to get down fairly easy for them. The disappointing 2013 fourth round draft pick wide receiver Josh Boyce was also waived with an injury designation and landed on injured reserve after being unclaimed. The other roster moves included the release of offensive lineman Chris Barker who was one of the final cuts last season and almost made the roster. Daniel Kilgore is the favorite to return as the starter at center, while second-year player Trent Brown is expected to play right tackle after starting the final two games of 2015. After the Giants’ final preseason tune-up on August 28th against the New England Patriots at home, the team kicks off the 2014 NFL regular season on September 8th on the road against the Detroit Lions. With an impressive trio of rookies starting the first three preseason games there was little room for Barker. The Giants home opener is on September 14th, 2014 against the Arizona Cardinals and New York enjoys a bye week during week 8 of the 2014 NFL season.
New York wraps up the 2014 NFL season on December 28th, 2014 at home against the Philadelphia Eagles and will be looking to try to make their way back to the 2015 Super Bowl after a disappointing 2013 NFL season for most of their fans.
