In 2009-10, Community Corrections services were provided at 16 Community Correctional Centres situated throughout the State, which were divided into the following regions. The Southern Metropolitan Region supervised offenders at three major locations; Adelaide Community Correctional Centre, Edwardstown Community Correctional Centre, and Noarlunga Community Correctional Centre. The Northern Metropolitan Region supervised offenders at three major locations; the North East Community Correctional Centre at Holden Hill, Elizabeth Community Correctional Centre, and Port Adelaide Community Correctional Centre. The Southern Country Region supervised offenders at three main centres; Murray Bridge Community Correctional Centre, Berri Community Correctional Centre, and Mount Gambier Community Correctional Centre. EducationWith the implementation of Shaping Corrections, the use of volunteers within education increased at a number of institutions.
The Department for Correctional Services has an important role in the criminal justice system in South Australia.
The Department employs more than 1600 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and seventeen Community Correctional offices across the state.

During the period of their community based sentence, offenders are supervised by the department and are often ordered to undertake programs to address their offending behaviour. Enhanced Community Corrections strengthens the department’s capacity to effectively and rigorously manage adult offenders in the community with a focus on public safety, public confidence, offender responsibility, and the rights of victims. Testing is undertaken by a specialist mobile Alcohol and Other Drug Management Unit which visits community correctional centres across the State with the sole purpose of conducting urine and breath tests.
Community Corrections services are  provided at 17 Community Correctional Centres situated throughout the State. Community Corrections Officers supervise offenders on bail or home detention bail, home detention, bonds , parole, licences under the mental impairment legislation and  community service. The Region covers the Riverland and south eastern parts of the State, with many offenders living a significant distance from the department’s centres.
This service also provides for the movement of offenders in the community to attend appointments and departmental programs.

A theory based Learners Permit Program for offenders in the community was also provided by volunteers at Port Adelaide Community Correctional Centre with successful outcomes for a number of offenders. These support services are expected to increase across the department, in line with an increased focus on offender literacy.
It is a key strategy that offenders under supervision by the Department are offered meaningful and targeted opportunities to address their offending behaviour to break the cycle of crime. These offenders are often then referred to the department to undertake community based sanctions including Probation, Community Service (Repay SA), Supervised Bail or Intensive Bail Supervision (Court ordered Home Detention). In addition to supervising offenders on court orders, the department provides community based supervision for prisoners leaving prison on Parole and Home Detention programs.
