Canada Post is being vague on plans to end door-to-door delivery in light of government changing hands in Monday's federal election. Charlottetown MP Sean Casey says he is "extremely frustrated'' with Canada Post continuing with plans to end door-to-door delivery despite a change in government. During his successful campaign to get re-elected in Monday's federal election, Casey said a Liberal government would place a moratorium on the changes currently taking place and do a complete review of the mandate of Canada Post. However, the Justin Trudeau-led majority Liberal government victory does not appear to have put an immediate halt to Canada Post's move to end door-to-door delivery. When asked by The Guardian for an update on the status of door-to-door delivery in light of a change in government, Canada Post was vague.
Casey says the phone has been ringing off the hook at his constituency office since the Canadian Union of Postal Workers this week called for an immediate halt to the door-to-door delivery cuts scheduled in the coming weeks prior to the Liberals forming the new government.
Difficult to have much sympathy for postal workers, when they had little sympathy for Canadians when they held us hostage to unreasonable wage demands back in the 70's and 80's.
Canada Post has now spent millions on this change and the Liberals are going to improperly intercede. The reality is that the changes in postal service are managed by Canada Post, not by any single government. With the Liberals set to form government, Canada Post announces it is suspending move to end door-to-door delivery. Canada Post is putting on hold plans to switch customers from door-to-door mail delivery to community mailboxes as the federal Liberals, who promised to restore the service, are set to take office next week. Canada Post has been struggling with declining mail volumes in the age of email and texting, and argued that dramatic changes were needed for the agency to remain in the black. Ending door-to-door delivery was a move supported by the Conservative government under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, along with hikes to stamp prices and shrinking the Canada Post workforce.

OTTAWA (The News Desk) — Canada Post has unveiled a new stamp prominently featuring the design of the reverse side of the Canadian nickel. Many Canada Post employees have expressed delight at the new offering, believing that it will draw more enthusiasts into retail outlets. Those strikes facilitated the development of Currier services, which now have displaced much of the need for Canada Post. What is conveniently omitted by politicians during discussions on the topic is the cost of postal services and any potential reversal of the box concept. In addition to on-line and other electronic services, there is little need for most postal services, in particular door to door delivery is now an out dated service that the community mailboxes more than adequately meet.
Either the user pays via stamps and other revenues for Canada Post, or the government of the day provides a subsidy as that revenue source - the latter is not realistic in this day and age with the challenges facing the world, so let's move on and embrace the new boxes and stop overstating the 'critical' nature of this issue.
The Bloc Quebecois and Greens also oppose the end of door-to-door and, like the NDP, have also come out against the postal service’s plan to eliminate as many as 8,000 jobs.
Fearing he would lose the election and the ongoing opportunity to tear down the post office, Harper extended Chopra’s appointment for another five years, at a maximum of salary of $518,000 a year. In the desire to have the mail boxes close to residents, Canada Pose obviously made some poor choices in location. When we call to sort out the keys and ask why we are not in a more proximal mailbox, we are told that we needed to ask early to move mailboxes - unfortunately we didn't receive psychic ability from Canada Post in our mailbox to know we would be so far away. Fearing the his newly elected boss may deny him the opportunity to earn almost $2.6 million, Chopra has reconsidered eliminating all the door-to-door delivery in Canada. There was a nasty dispute four (4) years ago between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers which subsequently resulted in rotating strikes, a lockout and ultimately back-to-work legislation.Although the two sides eventually came to an agreement in 2012, the issue has lingered in the courts. After Canada Post announced that they would eliminate door-to-door delivery and 8,000 jobs (the only country in the G7 to eliminate this postal service), Olivia Chow moved a motion, in the House of Commons, to restore door-to-door delivery on January 28, 2014.

Sure that these civil servants have long days dealing with many exasperated Canadians but it doesn't give license to be curt and abusive to anyone that calls., particularly when the questions are legitimate.
The NDP has vowed to reverse the cuts, while the Liberals have promised a moratorium on any cuts at Canada Post while they study the future of the corporation. Canadians own Canada Post, not Stephen Harper and his federal Conservative party.Boxes called a public nuisanceDorais, the Southwest borough mayor, said existing community mailboxes on his territory have already presented a number of problems, among them vandalism, theft and messiness.
Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said as much in a recent speech in Washington; blaming politicians and unions for holding up efforts to turn around his troubled organization, which has been doing a slow-motion but spot-on impression of the Hindenburg as it struggles to adapt to a 21st century marketplace driven by parcels and e-commerce.
Protests and at least one arrest have greeted Canada Post’s plan to phase out door-to-door delivery. 4.”The postal service announced in December 2013 that it would end home delivery, a measure that the corporation estimated would save $500 million annually when fully implemented. Canada Post is phasing out door-to-door delivery of regular mail to urban residents and increased the cost of postage in a major move to try to reduce significant, regular losses. If elected, he will speed up Canada Post’s plans and will believe if re-elected, that Canadians have given him a mandate to be the only country to totally eliminate door-to-door delivery.
On December 11, 2013 Deepak Chopra announced Canada Post’s plans to ensure that Canada was the only G7 country to eliminate door-to-door delivery.
The composition of Canada’s new parliment on October 20, 2015 is important for all Canadians.
