This course is geared towards participants of varying skill levels and backgrounds so no particular experience or athletic ability is necessary. After registering for the course, students will receive a detailed course information sheet which will contain all of the applicable details, like required and recommended gear, exact location, driving directions, etc. Description of the Level of Physical Difficulty – Advanced:  This course involves walking over varying distances at a steady pace over varying terrain that will include off-trail sections, rough spots, unexpected obstacles, and low to steep terrain inclines and declines.

Woodlore, The School of Wilderness Bushcraft, was founded in 1983 by the British Bushcraft expert Ray Mears. Although people are increasingly reliant on electronic navigational aids, there is still a need for traditional methods for the time when the battery on your GPS unit fails. Map symbols, scales, orientation, taking bearings, fixing your position, walking on a bearing, estimating distance covered and journey time, navigating in poor visibility and at night. As the accent is on the practical demonstration and application of skills, the courses take place in remote locations in the hills around Loch Lomond.

This is a one day course designed to provide you with the skills you need to find your way safely and with confidence in wild and trackless country without recourse to GPS equipment. Why not bring your GPS unit along - just to see how accurate your 'old fashioned' navigation is!
