This course is provided for the recertification of a Wilderness First Responder certification. This WFR recertification course reinforces and tests your previously learned skills in an applicational context and a written exam. Students who successfully complete the course receive a SOLO Wilderness First Responder card and if appropriate, an American Heart Association Adult Heart saver CPR card (or equivalent). This course is a 7-day condensed course teaching First Responder equivalent skills for responding to emergencies in the backcountry. This course may be used to refresh a Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness EMT (wilderness section only) certifications. Most wilderness medicine training providers will accept a 72-hour wilderness first responder course for re-certification.  The provider will issue you a new card upon successful completion of their course. Prerequisites: You must possess a current (unexpired) WFR certification of at least 70 hours to re-certify through a WFR Recertification course.

The 24-hour Wilderness First Responder Recertification course refreshes and updates topics covered in the WFR course.
Since then Apex Mountain School brought SOLO and Wilderness First Responder courses to Colorado. The 3-day course is heavily scenario based and will provide a review and update of wilderness medicine treatment practices, protocols and evacuation guidelines. No problem – we honor most major providers for recertifications; call for more details and prior approval. Our Wilderness First Responder curriculum uses the doctrines of lengthy periods of care, improvised resources, and variable environmental conditions as the basis for learning. Colorado has a broad range of temperatures throughout the day it is hot in the day and cold at night; snow is always possible in the Colorado Mountains.
The curriculum is provided by SOLO wilderness medicine, and instruction is provided by Apex’s SOLO certified instructors.

To better prepare you for success we provide you with a study guide that must be completed and handed into your instructors the morning of the first day of class. The 16-hour recertification course meets the requirements for a Wilderness First Responder Certification. Like all of our Wilderness Medicine programs, the emphasis of the WFR certification is on prevention and decision-making.
