The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is a 10-day training that provides intermediate medical skills to individuals working or playing in remote environments. This intensive course combines wilderness medicine with urban medical care practices into a single month-long program that includes clinical rotations helping to provide care for real patients. The 200-hour Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician course seamlessly blends urban and wilderness medicine. Successful course completion earns you a WMI Adult & Child CPR certification and a WMI Wilderness First Responder certification. In addition to the WFR, RMI also provides: Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Remote Emergency Medical Technician (REMT), Remote Medicine for the Advanced Provider (RMAP), recertification and upgrade trainings, and a comprehensive listing of private courses for organizations.


After four weeks of classroom education, practical skills, scenarios and full-scale mock rescues, you will be ready to handle medical emergencies, in the wilderness or right in town.
NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute (WMI) certifications will be afforded a one-year period after expiration within which to recertify. This will make you ineligible for EMT certification with no refunds or transfers of course tuition and associated costs. Please refer to the Course Description for your particular course for specific details about each prerequisite.
