TorrentPrivacy.com and BTGuard Compared

If you are using any type of bittorrent application to download and share files then you are already well aware of some of the inherent problems that go along with the entire process. A lot of what happens with people who share these files is that they are under constant scrutiny and have their computers monitored and watched by outside entities all of the time. This can lead to worries over privacy issues and the overall safety of your computer. One of the best ways to try and get around this problem is to make use of one of the services out on the market that lets you perform the sharing anonymously through the use of proxy servers. Two of the larger applications out there, BTGuard and TorrentPrivacy.com, actually have a great deal in common when you compare them side by side.

BTGuard is a proxy service that is designed to allow you to put your downloads and traffic through their server and directly to you without having your IP address or computer detected at all. Your IP address is always hidden and unable to be detected by trackers as the only address that will be shown is the BTGuard IP address. AS part of their terms of service, BTGuard also does not log any of their customer usage or any IP addresses, making you truly anonymous when you use their system. They offer two different packages, one that is designed specifically to be used for bittorrents and costs $6.95 per month and one that provides a VPN service, giving your web services and browsing complete anonymity, for $9.95 per month so there are packages depending available depending on your budget and your particular usage.

While many consider BTGuard to be a good service and it was one of the first services available specifically to focus on the use of bittorrents and provide anonymity to file-sharers using this technology, there have been some issues that people have raised. There are only two servers available on their system, one in Europe and one in North America, meaning it is very easy for the system to become slow and overloaded because of all of the traffic experienced. While many people like the application because it is very easy to use, so many people are using the system now because it is so well-known that it has caused a general slowdown of their function, making it harder for many people to use and restricting the speed of many of the downloads that occur, which can be frustrating to users.

TorrentPrivacy is very similar in nature to BTGuard. It is also a proxy server system that was designed specifically with bittorrent users in mind as a method to help keep them anonymous while sharing files. Like BTGuard, it too works as a service that will hide the IP address of your computer from anyone that may be looking and only displays the address of the TorrentPrivacy server instead, giving you the chance to share files anonymously. Like BTGuard, they offer both a proxy service and a VPN service to provide you with a more secure Internet experience for file-sharing and their services are at a cost of $9.95 per month.

TorrentPrivacy does perform most of the same functions as BTGuard and they also do not keep a log of IP addresses not do they share any customer information with any outside parties, which is good for security and anonymity. They too suffer from some of the same problems as BTGuard in that they have a very limited number of servers, causing a tremendous slowdown during peak usage periods when more people are using the system. This is a consistent problem for TorrentPrivacy since they are also a well-known system with more users. There is also a problem that if their server goes down for any reason that you do not have any encrypted access to the Internet until the server is back up, exposing your computer to tracking and to being watched, which could be a significant security and privacy problem for many especially if the server is down for any length of time.

When comparing BTGuard and TorrentPrivacy you can see that they are two of the older systems in the bittorrent game, which is one of the reasons more people have used their services over time. The problem is that since they are older, newer systems have come along that offer greater services with more security and even at better prices. There are a number of new services available that provide more reliable, faster VPN service to help keep you anonymous in your file-sharing while still getting good download speeds and sometimes at cheaper prices so you are getting a better bargain with better service. You are better off doing some research and investigation to check and see which systems can provide the most to you and fit best in your budget and needs so you can then decide for yourself which servers will work best for you and provide you with the most security and privacy for your money.
