Childhood obesity statistics worldwide reveal a worrisome trend that has lead to policy makers, parents and caregivers rethinking how best to deal with this growing pandemic.
Due to increasing childhood obesity prevalence experts are noticing emerging trends of a raise in the association between childhood obesity and diabetes. Kids between the ages 2 and 5 have had a doubling of prevalence with those between ages 6 to 11 being hard hit with statistical data showing a tripling of prevalence over these 30 years.
Still in the United States childhood obesity statistics further indicate that nearly 200 000 kids under the age of 20 years already have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. For example as shown above amongst young non-hispanic white boys aged 12 to 19 years old there was a prevalence of about 12 percent between 1988 to 1994 which jumped amongst the same group to over 15 percent between 2007 and 2008.
Unique challenges have been faced whilst attempting to measure comparative childhood obesity data amongst kids 5 to 14 years old. The challenges in Australia in as far as childhood obesity is concerned are just as mammoth as in the United States and many parts of the western world. Just like the United States, Canada is also in the grips of a problematic growth in the number of obese kids. South Africa is a developing country with relatively good data collection on childhood obesity. In light of all this childhood obesity statistics experts, parents and policy formulators are ever worried about the short term and long term negative consequences of obesity in children.

WASHINGTON: A new study has demonstrated that people with blood groups A, B and AB are at a higher risk of type 2 diabetes than people with blood group O. The study of more than 80,000 women has uncovered different risks of developing type 2 diabetes associated with different blood groups, with the biggest difference a 35 per cent increased risk of type 2 diabetes found in those with group B, Rhesus factor positive (R+) blood compared with the universal donor group O, Rhesus factor negative (R-).
Dr Guy Fagherazzi and his colleagues took data from 82,104 women from the large prospective E3N cohort in France followed between 1990 and 2008. The results showed that, compared with women with group O blood, women with group A were 10 percent more likely to develop T2D, and those with group B 21 percent more likely (both statistically significant). Fagherazzi said that the present study shows for the first time in a large prospective cohort that specific ABO blood groups are associated with an increased type 2 diabetes risk.
Fagherazzi concludes that their findings support a strong relationship between blood group and diabetes risk, with participants with the O blood type having a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
August 13, 2014 By Karlie 8 Comments Last week I began discussing a topic that is very pertinent to the fire service – heart health. Inflammation is the body’s natural immune response, so it’s beneficial in acute conditions, like a cold. Chronic inflammation contributes to the development of fatty plaque in the arteries (atherosclerosis) which is the most common form of heart disease.
Aside from losing weight, other things you can do to combat inflammation are: avoid smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, and consuming a lot of simple carbs and saturated fats. Although, as I’ve explained, being obese is very bad for your health and should be avoided, your weight does not completely dictate your health status. If you’re not on my list to get more health tips like these, enter your name and email below.
Andy Campbell – Been working dropping weight after letting it creep back up again the last two years. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a glycoprotein produced by the liver, which is normally absent from the blood. A Gallup poll released on Tuesday reveals that for the first time in history, Americans are more in favor of legalizing marijuana than criminalizing it.

With the majority of Americans agreeing that marijuana should be legalized, we've gathered up eight reasons why those who are still on the fence about the natural plant should possibly reconsider their feelings. You may think having a large amount of THC in your system will kill you, but you are wrong. Most polls regarding Americans and their pot use hover around the 40% mark for having tried marijuana at least once.
If you are completely fine with alcohol and cigarettes, then there shouldn't be a reason you aren't accepting of marijuana as well.
By definition obesity can be simply understood as weight gain that results in serious threat to a person's health The height and weight of an individual is calculated to produce the body mass index (BMI) which is an important tool of diagnosing obesity.
This is particularly the case as it pertains to type 2 diabetes which previously used to be highly associated with adults over the age of 40 in America.
In the United States alone as many as 9 million over 6 kids are considered to be obese and this number is by no means stagnant but continues to grow each year.
By far pediatric obesity statistics from America shows that Mexican American boys had the highest prevalence of over 20 percent between 2007 and 2008.
This is due to a missing standardized definition of childhood obesity applicable across the globe. About 1.5 millions under 18 kids in Australia are thought to be obese or at least overweight. The Childhood Obesity Foundation states that there has been a tripling in the number of obese children in the past 25 years. In South Africa statistical data shows that nearly 20 percent of children aged between 6 to 11 old are obese. There are known specific psychological effects of overweight such as depression which in itself can fuel over eating.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship of ABO blood type (A, B, AB and O), Rhesus factor (positive or negative) and a combination of the two (ABO×Rhesus) with type 2 diabetes (T2D).
The AB group was 17 percent more likely to develop T2D, but this result was not statistically significant.
Therefore, the effects of blood groups should be investigated in future clinical and epidemiological studies on diabetes. However, some behaviors end up causing an overactive immune response that results in chronic inflammation, also called “systemic” or “low grade” inflammation. Sleep deprivation is also a contributor (potentially because it increases stress) so try to get as much sleep as you can. Since both high pressure on joints and inflammation are known to cause arthritis, it makes sense that obesity is a primary contributor. If you’re overweight but still manage to maintain a high aerobic fitness you’re much healthier than someone who is lean but not aerobically fit.
I had suffered a severe back injury while in the service and was told I would have problems the rest of my life, so I accepted or just ignored them as they showed up. The presence of acute inflammation with tissue destruction within the body stimulates its production.
This substance is considered a marker of low-grade vascular inflammation, which is a key factor in the development and rupture of atheromatous plaque.
2013 has markedly been a successful year for marijuana legalization, with Colorado and Washington both passing laws to decriminalize the drug.
Ever since marijuana has been known to mankind, not one single account of death from overdose has been recorded. This is compared to the 16% of Americans who have tried cocaine, which is obviously a significantly lower percentage.

As you can see from a 2010 study published in the Lancet and reported on by the Economist, a team of drug experts in the U.K. Studies done in America focused on producing credible childhood obesity statistics have shown that the past 30 years or so have given rise to a pediatric obesity rate of more than double.
Obesity puts a greater number of children at high risk of developing certain chronic ailments such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease. Statistical data by gender over a period of time focusing on boys shows a sharp rise in obesity between 2007 and 2008 greater than experienced between 1988 and 1994.
In the year 2005 the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that at least 20 million children below the age of 5 were overweight or obese all across the world. In 1999 the figure reached 15 percent before slightly dropping to about 14 percent in year 2000 and picking up again to about 17 to 18 percent in 2004.
Today as many as 25 percent of Canadian kids between 2 to 17 years old are either overweight or obese. Low self esteem especially amongst female kids, behavioral and learning problems which might affect school performance are some of the long term effects of obesity to expect. When looking solely at R+ versus R- women, neither group was at increased risk of developing T2D compared with the other. Further pathophysiological research is also needed to determine why the individuals with blood type O have a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
Antioxidants reduce inflammation, as do omega-3 fats, so eat more fruits and vegetables, fatty fish, flaxseed and walnuts.
After leaving the Army in April 1977 I was talked into joining the local volunteer fire department.
Elevated CRP levels predict future coronary events, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Marijuana is becoming more and more ubiquitous every year despite being less addictive than coffee.
In fact cardiovascular disease has been identified as a real danger amongst 70 percent of children aged between 5 to 17 years.
This is in light of missing credible childhood obesity statistics from poorer countries where data collection is poor. Studies also show that in England the average boy of 15 years of age weighed 60.7kgs in 2003.
When the acute inflammation is no longer present, the CRP rapidly dissipates from the body. Thus this test is used to assess risk of cardiovascular problems in conjunction with other testing, such as measuring cholesterol levels. In 1998 things went south and eventually in 2002 things were bad enough I was using a walker and retired. The CRP typically rises within 6 hours of the start of inflammation, allowing the inflammation to be confirmed much sooner than through the use of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), which usually increases about a week after inflammation begins. One of the pharmaceutical treatments I have had to endure is 1000mg liquid Prednisone infusions for 3 days in a row every time I have a exacerbation. Originally they had no side effect on me but my doctor assured me that eventually I would suffer from weight gain, which has now hit.
