This is a medical condition that is also known as immersion foot and was a common illness for soldiers during World War 1.
Two of the early signs that can indicate a person has trench foot are redness and numbness of their foot. You may see open sores and blisters on the foot which could indicate that the disease is at a severe stage. The main cause of developing trench foot is standing in water and exposing their feet to cold, wet conditions for as little as eleven hours or longer.
If you start to see symptoms of trench foot or your feet are cold and wet you should soak them in warm water that ranges in temperature from one hundred two to one hundred ten degrees Fahrenheit for at least five minutes. When you have trench foot try to stay off the foot as much as possible, especially if there are open areas. If you have just the beginning symptoms of trench foot you should check your foot very closely to see if there are any wounds. If you notice any symptoms of trench foot you should see your physician immediately to prevent it from spreading and cause long term damage or even loss of your foot. If you are experiencing pain you can take over-the-counter pain medications or have your physician give you a prescription for a pain medication.

Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammation of the plantar fascia – a thick, fibrous band of connective tissue in the sole of the foot that supports the arch of the foot. Ankle pain is often caused by a fracture or sprain, and is often accompanied by swelling and bruising. Ankle pain is most commonly caused by an ankle sprain, but there can be numerous other causes for the pain. But without proper diagnosis and treatment, the original injury may not heal properly, making the ankle more susceptible to future injuries.
If you are experiencing ankle pain, you should seek medical attention to get a proper diagnosis. Your doctor will perform a physical exam, paying close attention to your ankles, and may ask you questions about your activities and your medical history.
Do not hold back when describing symptoms, as this can prevent the doctor from diagnosing you correctly. The type of treatment you receive for your ankle pain will be determined by the cause of the injury and the severity of the pain. Your doctor may also suggest using NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as ibuprofen, which can be bought over-the-counter. If the pain is more severe, your doctor may inject your joint with an anesthetic or cortisone and advise you to undergo physical therapy.  At times surgical intervention may be necessary if all conservative measures have been exhausted.
The best way to prevent ankle pain is to be aware of your surroundings, loosen up your muscles and joints before exercise, and see a doctor immediately if you are injured, even if the injury is mild. Foot pain can sometimes be a sign of an underlying condition that requires medical attention. When using eye drops for glaucoma, there is a possibility that discomfort may be felt for the first few seconds.
Pills can also be prescribed if the eye drops turn out to be insufficient in managing glaucoma.   It will have more pronounced side effects however than eye drops. Again, make sure that the doctor is informed of all the medications being taken to stave off potentially dangerous mixing of drugs. The most popular type of laser surgery for glaucoma is called trabeculoplasty.  While the success rate of laser surgery is still mixed, it has nevertheless become a common intermediate procedure done between the taking of pills and traditional surgery. This is a painless procedure that may last for as short as 10 minutes and done on an outpatient basis. The most common form of traditional surgery for glaucoma patients is called trabeculectomy. This is an outpatient procedure in which the doctor makes a flap in the white part of the patient’s eye to allow excess fluid to drain. Patient will have to limit reading, driving and lifting of heavy weights for around a month after surgery. While the passage created by the surgery may close as the body tries to heal itself, the procedure is still highly preferred.
What is important like most disease processes is early diagnosis.  Early intervention will normally mean keeping things well under control with using one eye drop in each eye every night. Dr Jim Kokkinakis (Optometrist) graduated in 1983 from the Optometry School University of NSW.

Exotropia is the opposite of esotropia, both of which are disorders of the eye falling under the general category of a strabismus, commonly known as “cross – eyed”. There are quite a few similar disorders in the strabismus category, but exotropia and esotropia cover specific cases where one eye deviates inward or outward. Refer back to the Greek origins of the words – “exo” meaning exit or way out – can act as a prompt for you. Eye movements are controlled up and down by four muscles, and side to side by two muscles, so only six in all.
Causes of the disorder are not really understood, although children suffering from other disorders including Down syndrome and cerebral palsy often exhibit symptoms.
The most common form of exotropia – intermittent exotropia – is found in young children up to the age of seven. Physiologic exotropia – found in the normal population, but only to a minor degree within the parameters of sight variation. Convergent insufficiency exotropia – someone who has started off with esotropia (with an eye turning inwards) may develop an exotropic version in adolescence. Congenital exotropia – in this case the exotropia is present at or even before birth; genetic abnormalities may be a cause, but environmental factors may have an effect. The question of when to use surgery can be answered using the simple rule: “consider surgery if the condition is there for more than half the day or is slowly getting worse”. The surgical process involves a day procedure with a small cut made to gain access to one of the two muscles that control sideways movement.
In the case of convergence insufficiency exotropia it has been found that treatment through optometric vision therapy (eye exercises) by a behavioural optometrist can be effective, although some mainstream optometrists find such methods controversial.
The reason it was so common during this time period is that the soldiers spend a lot of time standing in cold, wet trenches. The reason that it was so rampant during World War 1 is that they soldiers did not have footwear that was waterproof. After taking it out of the water make sure that you dry the foot completely, especially between your toes. This is especially true if you have any ulcers or blisters that are infected to make sure that the infection does not spread. Trench foot is treatable but it can be a long, slow, and painful process but it all depends on how serious the condition is. Beginning at the heel bone, the plantar fascia extends the length of your foot to connect with your toes at the ball of the foot.
It is most severe in the mornings when getting out of bed because the fascia is in a shortened position at rest, and when you stand up, the sudden stretch and load of your body weight pulls on the attachment.Symptoms of plantar fasciitis vary from mild to severe.
It is composed of three bones—the tibia, fibula, and talus—and is surrounded by a network of ligaments and tendons. Some ankle pain requires immediate attention, so it is important to seek treatment from your doctor when the pain is accompanied by additional symptoms such as swelling, bruising, or an inability to walk. All ankle injuries that cause pain—even mild pain—should be looked at by a foot specialist.
In most cases, there has been an injury to the bones, ligaments, or tendons within the ankle.
Some people do not report mild ankle injuries, and instead try to reduce symptoms such as swelling and redness on their own.
Your doctor may order additional imaging tests, such as an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or CT scan. Simple stretches and exercises can make your ligaments, tendons, joints, muscles, and bones less susceptible to damage. Simple ankle sprains are the most common cause of ankle pain, and they can occur at any age, at any time.
The metatarsals are the long bones located in our feet, between the tarsal (ankle) bones and the phalanges (toes). Always seek the advice of a podiatrist, physician or other qualified health care professional for diagnosis and answers to your medical questions.
Bearing that in mind, early detection and prompt treatment can help manage this disease and may stave off the complete loss of one’s eyesight. The patient should also maximize the amount of eye drops to be absorbed by the eye by pressing on the tear duct to prevent the medication from draining into the nose.

In trabeculoplasty, the laser beam is aimed and concentrated on the drain of the patient’s eye. Though it may take several weeks before the full effect of the procedure is felt, a patient can normally resume all his regular activities immediately after the laser surgery.
This procedure is usually resorted to when eye drops, pills and laser surgery come up short. As much as half of the patients will not need glaucoma-related medications afterwards for a significant period of time. If just one of those muscles doesn’t function correctly the eyes misalign and messages sent to the brain are misinterpreted. Obviously young children are not able to discern what they are experiencing compared to other children, nor are they able to explain adequately what they experience; children in such instances often start to close one eye for improved vision as well as rub and “squint” their eyes. New born children may show signs but the effects clear up quickly within a few months without any further concerns. Adults can also develop this version if surgery has been used and there has been some overcompensation. The patient usually recovers quickly, but may need to wear prescription spectacles for a while.
It is a dangerous medical condition and during the wars of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries it caused millions of injuries and deaths.
You may also notice a blue discoloration to your skin which is an indication of a poor supply to your foot.
It can also happen anytime your feet are exposed to water for a long period of time that can include everything from excessive sweating to sea travel. Make sure that if your feet become wet or you are sweating excessively causing your socks to become wet, change your socks and footwear immediately. When possible wear sandals or flip-flops to allow the sweat to evaporate from your skin, especially in hot conditions that could cause your feet to sweat. Remember that in order to prevent this medical condition you need to make sure that your feet are kept dry but if they become wet make sure that you get them dry as soon as possible. If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. They can linger for months at a time, with pain increasing and decreasing in an unpredictable pattern.
In some cases, aspiration of synovial fluid (the fluid in the joint space) may be necessary for analysis.
There is a chance that the combination of the eye drops and the other medications will lead to complications, as some drugs are dangerous when mixed together. The result is a seemingly minor change in the drain’s opening that will allow fluid to pass out faster and easier. It does not have to be wet footwear but can also be wet socks that are caused by excessive sweating.
Do not walk around for a long time before doing this as it can cause trench foot and the problems associated with this medical condition.
Do not just change your footwear and leave on your socks, even if they are just slightly damp. Any imbalances in the mechanics of your foot and distribution of weight can potentially cause pain. Often, discomfort may nearly disappear for several weeks, only to re-emerge full-blown after a single workout or change in activity. Compression involves wrapping the ankle with an elastic bandage to provide support, and elevation helps to minimize bruising and swelling.
It was first recorded as a widespread syndrome during the Napoleonic wars in the early eighteen hundreds in Europe. When placed under excessive stress, the plantar fascia stretches too far and tears, resulting in inflammation.
The pain may even temporarily ‘fade’ as you walk.A physiotherapist can assess your injury and provide appropriate stretching and strengthening exercises that will promote an earlier return to your activity, as well as advice on how to prevent recurrence of injury. The effects of the stress can build up gradually or be the result of a sudden occurrence.Repetitive movements such as walking or running, stretch the plantar fascia. Because it is not very flexible, this can cause small tears in the fascia, which leads to inflammation and pain. Other factors such as high arches, fallen arches, or a change in the walking surface contribute to the stress placed on the plantar fascia and heel.
