Number of factors ranging from common skin rashes to erythema nodosum or psoriasis can cause red itchy bumps on the skin. It can be due to allergic reactions, hives, chicken pox, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and folliculitis. Allergic reactions can happen by the intake of medicine or exposure to polluted atmosphere or due to virus infection.
Chicken pox is the disease caused by virus which spreads red small sized itchy bumps on the skin. People who are overly exposed to environmental poison like oak, ivy and sumac would get allergic rash with itchy bumps. It would appear as tiny red spots initially on the face or scalp which further proceeds as dark red bumps or lesions on the body. Simple allergic drugs like Allegra or Zyntec are available over the counter for getting relief from itching and inflammation. Pet Scabies or Mange is not just a disease that stray animals contract, well-groomed and loved pets can also develop the disease. Patients with sun damage, or who work outdoors, and all those with fair skin than tans poorly should be advised to protect their skin and eyes from the sun.
Topical 5-fluorouracil 5% cream (Efudix™) is a chemotherapeutic agent with partial Drug Tariff subsidy when prescribed by or on the recommendation of a dermatologist. Fluorouracil may cause a diffuse phototoxic reaction in the areas of application so sun exposure should be avoided; normally treatment should be undertaken during the winter months. It is very irritant to mucous membranes so if actinic cheilitis is to be treated advise stopping it as soon as any soreness occurs (a few days). Normal skin may be unaffected by the treatment, or may develop a contact irritant or allergic dermatitis.
Imiquimod (Aldara™) is a an immune response modifier used to treat genital warts, actinic keratoses and superficial basal cell carcinomas (BCC)s. Imiquimod binds to Toll-like receptor 7 on epidermal antigen presenting cells (Langerhans cells) and induces the innate and cell-mediated local immune response via the production of alpha interferon and other cytokines and infiltration of tumour destructive T-cell lymphocytes and macrophages. Occasional 'flu-like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, nausea, diarrhoea and muscle pain may be treated with paracetamol. Diclofenac in hyaluran gel (Solaraze™) is available in several countries to treat actinic keratoses, but not yet in New Zealand (September 2008). Topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations can sting broken skin and may cause irritant, allergic or phototoxic contact dermatitis. Trichloracetic acid (TCA) is used as a peeling agent in various concentrations (15 to 80%). Higher concentrations result in partial thickness epidermal destruction and can also be used as spot treatment for seborrhoeic warts, viral warts and xanthelasma.
Over-the-counter topical retinoids (retinol and retinaldehyde) are widely promoted to have anti-ageing properties. There is continuing controversy whether the topical use of tretinoin, isotretinoin and adapalene could cause birth deformities so they should not be prescribed in pregnancy. Various topical agents applied at night or as superficial peels at a salon may improve the appearance of photoaged facial skin.
As with almost any skin care products, contact irritant reactions are quite common (stinging, burning and dermatitis) and contact allergic dermatitis may occur less often. Daily and year-round use of sunscreens diminishes signs of photodamage and may reduce the number and severity of actinic keratoses. The fern extract, Polypodium leucotomas, taken by mouth appears to have modest photoprotective effects and is available as a food supplement (Heliocare™).
Cats can contract ringworm when they are exposed to infected soil, when they come in direct contact with another infected animal or person, or indirectly through their living environment. Those most susceptible to ringworm are kittens and cats less than one year old, who are still developing an immune system, or cats whose immune systems are suppressed, such as FIV+ cats.
Ringworm generally first shows itself as a small lesion with scaly skin in the center, which then grows to be a ring of patchy hair loss.
The most accurate diagnosis is by a vet taking a sample skin scraping from your cat, usually with a toothbrush, and then growing the culture in a lab.
Clipping the hair – This is important to reduce the spread and so that the treatment can reach the skin, especially for cats with longer hair. Lime-sulphur dips or enilconazole (Clinafarm EC) – This is the most often prescribed treatment.
Oral anti-fungal medication – your vet may prescribe oral anti-fungal agents if the lesions are severe or if the nail beds are infected. As you are treating a cat for ringworm, you will want to take the cat back in to your vet every 2-4 weeks to take a new culture. Also, if you or someone in your household has HIV or is undergoing chemotherapy, these individuals are more at risk of contracting ringworm from a pet. Even if there are no other cats in the household, you still may want to consider restricting your infected cat to just one room in your house to make cleaning easier. Whenever you take a new cat into a multi-cat household, it’s good practice to isolate new cats for 14-21 days before co-mingling them because any contagious diseases or infections generally show up within that timeframe.
If you have a multi-cat household and you have taken a ringworm-infected cat into your house, you should consider having all cats checked by your vet. Because the spores are microscopic, there is a strong likelihood that the other cats in your household will still contract ringworm. If you were able to successful isolate the cat prior to the spread of the ringworm infection, only co-mingle cats again after the ringworm-infected cat tests negative on two consecutive cultures, each two weeks apart. If you are a rescuer, be very cautious about using other people’s grooming tools at adoption events or sharing cat carriers unless they are thoroughly bleached. The cosmetics and soaps you use can make skin dry, and the aging process can cause skin to become dry because the sebaceous glands become sluggish with age. Choose a moisturizing cream that contains skin-nourishing ingredients such as rose oil, avocado oil, olive oil or a blend of these oils. Spread the mask all over your nose and leave it on for the time indicated on the label, and then thoroughly rinse the mask off your skin.
Dab some sunscreen on before you go outside and reapply it often if you'll be out in the sun for any length of time.
This can appear on different body parts including the hands, feet, arms, legs, face, lips, and around the eyes and mouth. The exact cause of this skin condition is still unknown. But don’t lose heart as there are some natural remedies that you can try at home to deal with this problem. It is difficult to tell what causes such skin inflammation and infection and why it affects only certain people.

Hives can cause red bumps which spread rapidly on the skin and this condition is caused due to allergic particles. This infection will appear as small red spots on the skin and it begins on the scalp and goes down till your legs. Alopecia, boils, erythema nodosum, Kawasaki disease, abscess and phlebitis can also cause this problem. On continuous scratching you are increasing inflammation and the area becomes irritated and causes repeated lesions on the skin. For intense form of rashes he may inject steroid directly on the skin to control irritation. Almost all young animals will become infected and will cure themselves, but if the pet scabies or mange does last longer then a month you need to seek the help of a professional.
Removal of lesions that involve the dermis or subcutaneous tissue requires surgical excision. Effective sun protection has been demonstrated to result in a reduction in actinic keratoses with time. It is a competitive antagonist for uracil in the formation of RNA and inhibits the incorporation of uracil into RNA. Pre-treatment with a topical retinoid enhances the effect of fluorouracil by peeling off the top layer of skin. Most dermatologists recommend twice daily applications for 2 to 4 week courses, which may be repeated as necessary. Treated dysplastic lesions become red, scaly and tender over several days then erode or ulcerate with continued treatment.
This is most likely when in situ squamous cell carcinoma is affecting the lower leg, so careful supervision is necessary for lesions in this site and treatment should be interrupted if there is any erosion.
This may be treated by discontinuing the fluorouracil and applying emollients and topical steroid cream.
The greater the inflammation, in general the shorter the time and number of applications required to eradicate the lesion. Occasionally, a nodular basal cell carcinoma may arise in an apparently successfully treated superficial basal cell carcinoma. Large amounts may result in systemic effects including hypersensitivity, asthma and renal dysfunction. It is particularly effective at reducing blotchy pigmentation and may also improve fine lines and wrinkles (not deep furrows). They peel off and lighten pigmented lesions (lentigines) and reduce fine surface wrinkles by preventing loss of collagen from, and stimulating new collagen formation in, the papillary dermis. However dietary intake results in higher levels of detectable retinoids in serum than topical use. In general, the ingredients do not penetrate deeply enough to eradicate actinic keratoses and are inappropriate in the management of skin cancer.
Most reactions are mild and settle spontaneously, but persistent dermatitis may require management with topical steroids and bland emollients. If outside, then protection from directly incident light can be obtained by seeking shade: trees, verandas, and umbrellas. Reapply after half an hour to ensure an even coating soaks into the skin, and then follow the instructions on the container.
Distinguishing specific ingredients can be tricky because of multiple chemical and trade names for the same substance (refer to TGA guide, referenced below).
These are microscopic parasitic fungi that live on the skin, specifically in hair follicles. Because the spores are microscopic and contagious, ringworm can be passed between cats via shared bedding, shared grooming tools, cat carriers, furniture, carpeting, etc. Ringworm lesions and patches of hair loss are frequently localized to the cat’s face, ears, and limbs, but they can occur anywhere on the body. Clipping should only be done by your vet, because you need extreme care to avoid further traumatizing the skin or further spreading the infection. It is safe to use in kittens from 10 days and up, but use extreme caution if treating pregnant queens. Sometimes these oral medications have serious side effects, so you should discuss with your vet what the possible side effects are before beginning treatment. The cat is not considered fully cleared of the infection until you get two clean (negative) cultures two weeks apart.
If you were able to successfully isolate the cat prior to the spread of the ringworm infection, you will want to use extreme caution between handling the infected cat and caring for your regular crew. If you weren’t able to isolate the cat prior to the spread, you may need or want to consider treating all of the cats in your household. Ringworm spores are very light so vacuuming is actually very effective; a vacuum can suck up the spores easily. Also at adoption events, you always want to disinfect your hands in between handling different cats, and make sure that potential adopters disinfect their hands before petting or handling cats, too. Covelli completed a course in writing for children and teenagers and received a diploma for natural health consulting with highest honors. Wet skin before applying the cleanser, and then rinse all traces of the cleanser from your nose thoroughly and let air-dry. Apply the moisturizing cream to your nose not only after washing it, but whenever your skin feels tight or dry. Experts believe that it could be an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system itself attacks the melanocytes or melanin-producing cells.Other causes that can contribute to this problem are a genetic predisposition, overexposure to sunrays, excessive stress, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Moreover, at times it tends to resolve on its own. Here are the top 10 ways to get rid of white patches on the skin. Do this once or twice daily for a few weeks or until you see improvement. You can also extract the juice from one large ginger root and a handful of fresh mint leaves. There are variety of treatment options available for itchy bumps and rashes but every one of them is good enough to address the symptoms and not the underlying disease. Fever, nausea, vomiting and constipation problems may accompany the disease if it is caused due to allergic reaction or poison. It takes time for it to appear on the skin and similarly you should understand that it takes sufficient time for getting healed.
In case of infectious rashes antibiotics are given orally and in the form of topical creams. Almost all pets have pet scabies, or mange, in some form, it is natural, but sometimes the mites can increase in number beyond that which is normal. You can help relieve the itching from Pet Scabies or Mange  if you soak your pet in water with a sulfur medication. Superficial skin lesions such as actinic keratoses, in situ squamous cell carcinoma and superficial basal cell carcinoma may be amenable to cryotherapy or photodynamic therapy (discussed in the physical therapy module) or topical therapy (described here).
It is fairly effective in the management of actinic keratoses and in situ squamous cell carcinoma but is relatively ineffective for basal cell carcinoma.
To reduce the severity of adverse reactions, others recommend treatment for a few days, repeated as necessary, or twice weekly applications over several months.

About 10% get little or no inflammatory response and treatment is then nearly always ineffective.
Lesions tend to improve for a few weeks after it has been discontinued, and then to slowly recur.
It is not very effective at removing actinic keratoses and is inappropriate for invasive skin cancers. These effects can be minimised by using a minimal amount on alternate nights at first and if necessary applying a light oil-free moisturiser. They may be recommended as part of a general sun protection regimen; it is not known which of many possible options is the most effective and results are often disappointing. True allergy is most often due to a preservative, but has been reported from many ingredients. Senior cats, stressed cats (maybe due to a recent move, a new cat in the household, or a recent adoption) and free-roaming cats that are outside and exposed to soil are all more susceptible to contracting ringworm.
A woods lamp is not complete indicator, though, because only about 60% of ringworm fungi show up under a woods lamp. This is a routine culture that your vet can perform, and it’s really the most accurate diagnosis. The lime-sulphur dip smells bad and there may be some slight discoloration of the cat’s coat, turning it yellowish, but that will go away on its own. Antifungal creams are typically recommended for use on both people and pets with ringworm and are very effective. Also, because the ringworm taxes the cat’s overall system, you will want to make sure your cat is on high quality diet, specifically feeding good quality wet food. Be very careful to wash your hands, use gloves and change your clothes after handling the infected cat. Remember, it affects kittens and cats under one year, seniors, longhairs and cats with compromised immune systems the most. Vacuum all surfaces, furniture, drapes and carpets and follow with a damp mop where possible. When your pet has serious pet scabies or mange they will experience a loss of hair and will get scaling around it’s eyes, nose and corners of the mouth.
This will help reduce the number of mites that have built up on your pet and allow it to heal.
It is also sometimes used in combination with salicylic acid in the management of persistent and symptomatic viral warts in adults. Treatment should be discontinued at the eroding stage to allow re-epithelialisation over the next one to four weeks.
On the whole, as with other topical treatments, facial lesions clear quicker than those elsewhere. Thus white skin that normally burns in 10 minutes will burn in 150 minutes (2 ½ hours) with SPF 15 sunscreen, however often it is reapplied. Cats and cattle are the two species of animals that seem to get ringworm the most, although dogs and other animals can contract it. There is usually mild itching associated with ringworm, and cats will often show an early sign of ringworm by scratching at their ears.
For tame cats, there are things you can do to speed up the healing process, as well as decrease the chances of reoccurrence.
To make things more complicated, doxycycline, terramycin, carpet fibers and dust can also cause the hair shaft to glow. Good quality wet food will strengthen their immune system, so the body is getting the nutrients it needs and is supported during the healing process.
BabchiBabchi or Psoralea corylifolia is considered an effective Ayurvedic remedy for hypopigmentation.
They can also contract a more serious case of pet scabies or mange from coming in contact with other animals that are infected with pet scabies, or mange, also. Just put your pet in the solution for 10 to 15 minutes, don’t rinse them off and allow them do dry naturally in order to allow the solution to work.
In general, sunscreens are much less effective than predicted by their SPF number as they are applied significantly less thickly than is tested and are rubbed, sweated or washed off. Use a bleach-water solution to disinfect all hard surfaces and try to leave the bleach on for about 10 minutes to kill all fungi.
It is believed that copper is required by the enzyme tyrosinase which in turn is required for the synthesis of melanin pigment from tyrosine.Pour drinking water in a copper pot or a copper vessel and let it sit overnight at room temperature.
Pet Scabies or Mange can cause very intense itching which will result in the loss of their hair.
Athlete’s foot and jock itch are two types of ringworm that humans can get, sometimes from public places like locker rooms or public swimming pools. Just because the patch is going away doesn’t mean the cat is cleared of the infection. It also has antipsoriatic properties that help treat psoriasis.Soak babchi (also known as bakuchi) seeds in ginger juice for three day. If your pet has contracted mange, they will start to develop small, red, hairless areas on their body. It’s a good idea to have your heating and cooling ducts professionally vacuumed out, too.
Make sure you use a bleach-water solution to cleaning your grooming tools, cat carriers, litter pans, traps, taming cages, collars, toys, baskets, etc. Then, remove the husks by rubbing the seeds between your hands, dry them in the sun and grind them to a fine powder. Consume one gram or about one-fifth of a teaspoon of this powder with a glass of milk daily for 40 days.
Extreme cases left untreated will lead to complications such as weight loss resulting in frailty and a host of other complications.
You can also apply this power topically.Another option is to apply babchi oil on the affected skin areas and expose to sunlight for about 15 minutes (start with a short duration of sun exposure to check if the response is favorable).
Ginkgo BilobaResearch indicates that ginkgo biloba can help treat vitiligo because of its antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties. It can help reduce the progression of the disease and also induce repigmentation. The general dosage is 40 to 80 mg of ginkgo biloba, three times a day. To help determine the proper dosage and suitability of this herb for you, consult your doctor.3. GingerAccording to Chinese herbalism, ginger can be used as an excellent natural remedy for vitiligo.
