GENERAL One of the most common causes of chronic cervical (neck) pain is the facet joint syndrome. GENERAL Cervical radicular pain is the pain caused by irritation or inflammation or injury of a cervical spine nerve. Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a chronic syndrome of neuropathic pain affecting the facial area.
The pain is so severe that it affects significantly even simple functions, such as chewing, swallowing, tooth brushing, washing, touching the face etc.
Various epidemiological studies have shown that the incidence rate of the disease is 4-5 young patients per 100.000. The trigeminal nerve is the fifth cranial nerve and the biggest sensory nerve covering the face and neighbouring tissues. The nerve originates from the brainstem and enters the temporal bone where it forms the gasserian ganglion (semilunar ganglion) in a cavity of the bone which is called Meckel’s cave (trigeminal cave).
Localisation and distribution of pain: mainly unilaterally in the innervation region of the affected branch or branches. As soon as trigeminal neuralgia is diagnosed, the patient has to undergo MRI to investigate whether there are organic pathological conditions, such as tumour or multiple sclerosis, which might cause secondary trigeminal neuralgia. When conservative treatment fails or drug side-effects are not tolerated, the patient has to resort to one of the invasive techniques.
For the young patients with clear past medical history for other concomitant diseases, the  procedure of choice is surgical decompression. Algeos foot models can be used to teach the anatomy of the foot and the various foot types.

Sciatica is a very common condition in people of all ages with prolapsed or herniated intervertebral disc in the lumbar spine. Nevertheless, if the pain persists, then the patient must undergo an MRI and then in a minimally invasive technique, which most likely will solve the problem without the patient having to undergo surgery. Such a new, therapeutic technique is the DISCOGEL intradiscal injection therapy which offers quick relief from pain.
The drug substance is injected into the center of the disc has osmotic action, sucking out the liquid material of the hernia from the periphery to the center of the disc and reconstructs in this way, a new disc nucleus decompressing simultaneously the hernia and therefore the pressure to the nerve root.
Additionally, the DISCOGEL seals any radial tears in the annulus fibrosus of the disk has occurred due to it`s degeneration, blocking the exit of inflammatory substances in the nerve roots. The product was discovered in France and there are a large number of studies to monitor these patients, and five years after the implementation of therapeutic technique. Keep up to date with the latest developments in our fields of expertise, as well as the various activities and events in our clinic. The median nerve provides sensory innervation to the thumb, forefinger, middle finger and half of the ring finger, as well as motor innervation to some hand muscles. More than 50% of patients visiting pain clinics for cervical pain, suffer from facet joint syndrome. The pain is located in the upper arm ipsilateral to the lesion and is acute, stabbing, electric shock-like.
Please always consult your doctor before taking any advice learned here or on any other website. It is considered to be the most excruciating pain probably due to the fact that the facial region has a very dense distribution of sensory nerve endings per square centimeter.
According to clinical observations, it is probably induced by compression of the trigeminal nerve at its origin by the brainstem, blood vessels or a tumour. There may occur a number of different attacks almost at the same time followed by a period of calmness. Magnetic Angiography is also useful when there is suspicion for the nerve compression by a vessel. Observation studies have demonstrated that carbamazepine (Tegretol) may reduce pain in 70% of cases.
It is a surgical procedure, performed under general anaesthesia, releasing the nerve from the compressing arteries and coagulating the other microvessels involved.

With this technique the trigeminal nerve is being decompressed by placing a small balloon percutaneously (through a needle) in Meckel’s cave, where the gasserian ganglion is located.
In this procedure, a needle is placed into the trigeminal cistern under radiological guidance. For the elderly who are in risk of complications from anaesthesia, the method of choice is the percutaneous radiofrequency neurolysis of the gasserian ganglion. The very important advantage of this method is that it is minimally invasive, non-surgical technique that is applied under local anesthesia and the patient returns home the same day of surgery.
Physiotherapists will assist you with pain and edema related to Painful Diabetic Neuropathy (PDN), while kinesiologists provide you with a variety of exercises designed to encourage physical activity depending on your abilities. This percentage is far higher than the corresponding rate of patients suffering from lumbar facet joint syndrome. The local pressure causes demyelination, which results in abnormal depolarization and finally produces ectopic pulses. The drug is administered within the affected intervertebral disc, via fine needle which goes to the nucleus (center) of the disc, transdermal, without incision, under local anesthesia and fluoroscopic guidance. Alternative second line drugs, whose efficacy has not yet been established, is pregabaline (Lyrica), gabapentine (Neurontin) and baclofen (Baclofen). In terms of resulting effect, the procedure is comparable with the Percutaneous Radiofrequency Neurolysis of the Gasserian ganglion. For evaluating the volume of the cistern, a  contrast medium is administered, which in turn is aspirated and an equal volume of glycerol is infused  provoking the nerve ablation. The advantage of PBM is that it is appropriate for treating neuropathy of the first trigeminal nerve branch (ophthalmic branch) keeping intact the eye corneal reflex.
