Reductions in bone mineral density are associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis and an increased risk of fractures. To investigate how metabolic syndrome affects sex drive, researchers from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine surveyed 376 postmenopausal women.
The researchers found women with metabolic syndrome reported low sexual satisfaction, decreased desire, and less frequent sexual activity.


Having a high waist size, diabetes and high blood pressure were especially linked with less frequent sex. When comparing sexually active women with metabolic syndrome to those without, they found they had more problems with desire, arousal, orgasm, and satisfaction compared to those without it. The team then looked at how various heart problems or blood vessel conditions affect sexual health.
Additionally, women who did not have sex often were more likely to have coronary artery disease. The study found there was no link between women diagnosed with heart heart failure, poor circulation or stroke and lower libido or satisfaction.
