Thornton Middle School eighth-grade student Laura Gonzalez was named Junior High Division Champion at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Student Art Contest on March 5. The contest began with more than 21,000 student-produced works of art from more than 90 school districts in Texas.
A total of 718 works received Best of Show, Gold Medals or Special Merit awards from the district shows competing for the top awards at the rodeo.
In addition to receiving the Champion award, Gonzalez was also selected as a recipient of a scholarship to attend a workshop offered by the Glassell Junior School of Art.
